I think every maker made a box in that configurations at some point.

Any badge remnants, or rivet holes? That might give a clue but other than that, IMO you need to compare it to other known brands side by side and look for minute detail differences...

Completely agree Outlaw. They'd make great wall cabs. I'd secure a piece of 2" angle to the wall under them to be sure they stay then secure the cab to the angle and the wall.

I've been searching forever for a decent deal on a set of vintage boxes. Nothing has come up in the last 2 months or so... Now I see this on Kijiji this morning, Beach 9-drawer top with a 3-drawer bottom, for 50$!

Unfortunately it's 3 hours away and I have this thing called a job. Who posts something like that on a Monday morning?!

I sent him a message see if he'd hold it until the weekend but I'm not very hopeful.

That's a nice set up at a damn good price. Hopefully seller will hold it if not tell the wifey your gonna be late for dinner. LOL

Tim: i'm sure the seller won't have any issues finding a buyer at that price, but with 6 hours drive and another $50+ in gas it might not be the best deal for you. are there more boxes in your area if you pay more money say $150-200? reason i'm asking is I'm sure you can probably make $100 in 6 hours even if you want to mow a few lawns in the neighborhood. i have a friend that shows me a ton of Craigslist boxes and asks my opinion on them. he won't spend the $300 to get a nice old box, but he'll spend hours on CL looking for one that might need 40 hours of work to spiff it up.

all i'm saying to you and everybody is that your time is worth something as you know because you are at work now.

$50 is good deal but depends on how much you want it. I collect gray/red Craftsman. Since Im only collecting that specific era of box they only came available here and there in my area. If you have looked around and they only pop up once in a blue moon then grab them when you see them especially if looking for a specific brand or model.

I do have a soft spot for the vintage Beach boxes Bought two carry boxes in the last 2 weeks hehe and I have 2 more at my Mom's place in rough shape. So yeah, it is desirable to me if in good shape.

I would absolutely love to have a full Beach stack and also a full Red and Gray Craftsman, I think they are some of the better looking boxes ever, for some reason they are really rare around here.

Oooh, I can see it! However, if I wanted to be **** about it, one of the cabinet doors would have to be reverse hinged so that it opes opposite of the other.

Spotted this today at my buddy's shop - his dad picked it up at an auction. The panel covering the drawer is cracked, but it's full of goodies!

Gents: does anyone know where to find a front cover for this S-K toolbox? I bought it pretty much as you see it, and it turned me into an S-K collector. I'd like to fill the holes in the socket and wrench sets, but first I'd like to make the box itself complete.

I'd even be happy with a few pictures of a front cover - if I can't find one, I'll try fabbing one myself.

Also, can anyone confirm mid-40s to mid-50s as the age/era of this box? It is obviously the pre-Lectrolyte era, and most of the ratchet and socket drivers have the S-K diamond logo.

I really like that box, someday I would like to have an SK box.

As far as the front panel, I would keep an eye on eBay, maybe a want ad on here. Maybe try find one in poorer condition and use it for parts?

All original paint, used but not abused, key included (all 3 keyed the same), some liners remaining, all slides appear in good shape, bottom slides on KR 657 need a good cleaning.
Had to drive 160 miles one way to get it but was worth it, paid less than what the average KR 657 goes for in this area

Sounds like you need to apply the hide and seek method. Hide something you already own to make room for the box, then later when your SO forgets, bring it back out.

Had my Snap-on dealer order me the liner sets for upper and lower but he had a hard time pulling up the side box (found the box but it would not let him link to the liners). He will check and see what the availability of touch up paint and liners for the side box are.

No, the kr290 and 291 are heavier, larger 20" deep boxes. The liners will be too long for the 292.

Wow, thanks for letting me know, so what then is the story on the 292?
I was with him on the truck pulling things up on the upper and lower unit and it showed parts availability, when we pulled up the 292 we got nothing but he was able to find things under 290 and 291.

Yeah, the gent posted it in the wrong section with a description outside my normal search parameters. That WON'T happen again Beat!!! You guys wouldn't believe how solid that box is. No rust at all and, I believe with a little careful cleaning, the Herbrand blue can be brought back. It just has 70 or so years of grease/dust layered on it. Great find!
