Hate it. Lol
Do you use actual snap on extreme green pain? or what do you use?
Bagged - several manufacturers produce a color called "grabber green" engine enamel ... I've used both Duplicolor and Rustoleum, I like the latter the best

That looks great to me. That's what makes life great. We can all like different things. I just happen to like this one. If I find a vise in need of some TLC, I'll most likely paint it something fun like that.

First Versa Vise that I've seen in the wild. Since learning about them here of course. Had to check it out at $40. Came with a massive old workbench that I'll likely set ablaze.

Seems overall good condition, minus the white paint overspray. Missing the accessories unfortunately.

If you have the accessory mount and no vise, I'm interested in it.

Scooter Before you set that old bench ablaze , you may post it for sale ... I sell all the old bench's I get stuck with. One man's trash is another's treasure! Just a bit of info... 20 -50 bucks

Agreed. I've made some decent extra cash selling stuff I was about to trash.

MBS: There are a lot of members in your area stopping in at estate sales so while you are standing in line you might meet a few in person. also members are not the only ones to look at this thread so while others post current listings don't be surprised if a non member sees your post and gets in line ahead of you.

DRIVES LOL ...well I never... :3gears:... :spit: well ok .... maybe. :FIREdevil

FRETTERS I guess there's just no predicting what people will desire and value. Do you have a specific use for a leg vise or, like me, do you just want one? Perhaps there is a genetic component to it as my family name indicates that some ancestor in the distant past must have been familiar with English iron work. We left Ipswich in 1631 to come over here. If you ever meet someone from that area, let them know it worked out well for us.

Ok, so I seen this one up for sale for $95 with an OK looking stand.....it's an Omega MSV-4 Manufactured in 1982. Looks like it has some decent paint, and reminds me of an old Wilton. I haven't bought it, and may not do so, but I felt the need to post it on here because I have not seen others like this one on this site. Nor on a Google images search. The only ones I saw mentioned on this thread were on pages 83, 84, and 577. For your viewing pleasure...

Hello all,

I bought this Shop King vise last week and it showed up a little worse than when it left the sender. It looked like it took a pretty good fall somewhere along the line and now has a bent handle. The seller was a good guy and agreed to take the vise back and issue me a refund but I couldn't give it up so we worked out a deal and I kept the vise.

The handle seems to have two bends and cannot travel completely through the hole in the screw. What would be the best way to straighten this handle. Is it restoreable or replaceable? It has some pitting.

Thanks, John

Top: so were you saying you have 78 vises or are you including clamps? i know if you think they are in your way that you can load them in the pickup and probably sell them all on your lunch break.

or are you trying to get to triple digits?

pictures of all 78 if you can would be great. or maybe i'm missing something and the 78 was for something else?

What tools have you access to? A press would work well for straightening as would some vee blocks and clamps.
Remove the main screw and handle from the vise to make it easier.

I have one of those and never found a maker but they show up in a lot of the old catalogs. That looks to be missing the pin that goes in the side to adjust the lenght. The jaws only adjust a couple of inches so you have to slide it out to get a longer throat length. They are very loose and sloppy but I guess they got the job done back in the old days. Some of them came with a crude horizontal drilling attachment also.

DRIVES 78 bench and pipe vise's. It's been a good couple of months this summer. I've been back logged with custom orders and haven't had time to crank out my own inventory . I should get some breathing room by months end and back to work. I don't shoot for any certain number other than 50 K . That's what the new shop is going to run. To picture all 78 would be a work out . I have them in 3 different buildings but I like the idea

Heh. You have 78 vises and people were questioning me last week when I bought the 4" RAE to refurbish when I already have a good working vise in my garage. Peasants :p

Moondog,

Nice looking Shop King you have. I've always liked that art deco style and the embellishments.

Straightening a handle is pretty easy to do. You need a 4" or larger, heavy duty vise (an actual heavy duty vise...not a HF heavy duty vise:D), and a 3' long iron pipe that can fit over the vise handle.
1. Remove the spindle / handle from the your vise's moving jaw.
2. Clamp the handle into the heavy vise at the bend.
3. Place the iron pipe over your vise handle and bend it straight.
4. You may still have a small bend in your handle. You can re-clamp it & straighten it some more or you can clamp it long ways in the heavy vise and press it straight.

I've straightened a lot of handles that way. It's the easiest and my favorite way. Occasionally, I'll have use a press to straighten handles that have multiple bends.

I second Mark's handle straightening method.

I usually clamp the spindle into a heavy vise with the handle positioned right at a kink. But then I use a soft deadblow hammer to avoid making any marks. Pound it till straight, reposition, and repeat.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I used Cwazy Wabbit's method using the press at my workplace. I found a press ring big enough span the handle across and pressed the center of the bends. A couple hammer smacks on an anvil fine tuned it enough for the girls I go out with so I'm happy.

You can straighten handles this way too, I use this method often. I posted this method earlier and with handles you do not need heat like I used on this spindle. Keep a eye out on how far your spindle handle turns on the Dynamic Jaw Support when trying to straighten your handle so if it needs more of a tweek you can squeese a little bit more, like the last time I went to 2 oclock and this time I will try 2:30. I like using a dial indicator if I want it perfect. If you have a straight edge you can check as you go. One thought is that the handle has a memory and will bend back a little easier the next time you are using your vise that is why I replace all my handles with new ones when refinishing vises. If you have a lathe then it is pretty easy to make handles and knobs.

Another reason to crate up a vise when shipping.

One positive is that if you were to choose the best piece of the vise to take the impact it would probably be the handle. Every other part would likely break, at least the handle bends.

Little Starrett vise to replace my Yost 250 clamp on in the buffing room. No country of origin marking just Starrett 014 and a serial number it dose not close all the way but the soft jaws will make it a non issue
