Briggs' Double and Locost build.

Hello all, I haven't really done an introduction post. Haven't post in this forum for years up until recently.

My old house was a 1 car garage with a work space. Too small and I had to share with my room mate.

I just moved into a home with a 2 car garage, I'm renting. I have this new garage all to myself minus a couple things my sister needs to store.

I've started laying out the garage in google a ketchup as I'm familiar with it and I've used it to build the frame to the go kart.

Sorry for the crappy pics. I'll get better ones as I do more organizing and get shelves built.

Night time shot. 2 big issues so far. 1 there is no light in the garage which is an easy fix. Found some LED bulbs I want.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Z8..._rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2068141862&pf_rd_i=mobile

Issue 2 is there are only 2 outlets in the garage. 1 on the back wall centered and 1 on the ceiling next to the garage door motor.

Along this wall I will build all the shelves. My plan is to get the Miata in so I can fix it. It's going to be a tight fit.

Here you can see the kart, the Locost I'm building and my bike. All a working progress. I plan on either selling the kart or the Miata.

My tool boxes and 1 of my tables I'll build. This one will hold my drill press that's still in the box.

That's all for now. I'll be sure to post up updates as I make progress.

Some pictures of the Locost being built up to where it is right now.

For those of you that don't know what a Locost is. It's a replica of a 60's lotus super7, also known as a caterham.

This is a good friend of mine who finished his. It has a supercharged Miata drivetrain. 1300lbs 170whp and 130wtq. It's plenty fast.

I am. I'm also Briggs on there as well. My build log is on locostusa. It's a frame called "Car9". One of the members designed it. I'm the 3rd one to build one and the only one using square tubing and a 4 cylinder. The other 2 are round tube frame and both V8's.

Good looking Locost G. What's under the bonnet?

It's a Corolla 4AGE, with GSX-R ITB's, Ford EDIS, Honda injectors, and running Megasquirt.

I have a Lotus/Caterham dimensionally-correct chassis near completion to correct all the visual "flaws" I don't like, but other things got in the way, so it's on hold for now.

I remember seeing the Car9 threads a while back. I don't frequent there as much anymore (for now).

You should start a build thread for the new car.

I did years ago when I started, but it was "trolled" by meathead, and I was so pissed off that I had admin lock it and I took a break for a while. When my shop is built, and my V8 Firefly is complete, I will get back at it.

The trolling has seemed to stop on the forum. It's a great forum. I've had 0 issues the 3 years I've been on there.

You can join them together easily, for the power feed HP laptops use the same connector

Unless you have high ceilings don't get clear covers

Thanks for the info once again. I was going to order the clear ones, my ceilings are only 8' so glad I haven't ordered them yet. A friend and I are going to split the 10. I found 5 for $90 but cheaper the better.

Need some help regarding hard lines for my air compressor running to my media blast cabinet.

If it's hard to see what I plan on doing is using black iron pipe from Lowes/Home Depot. It's cheaper then I thought, well for the pipe. If the fittings are expensive in the store I'll order them online.

Onto the picture. Coming from the compressor I plan to have a quick connect fitting as my little 30 gallon compressor has wheels and can be moved around. So from the quick connect on the pipe itself it will go up the wall 24" (random number I came up with) then to a 90 degree fitting to the length of pipe (unknown at this point) then from the pipe along the wall, down with another 90 degree fitting down to level with blast cabinet. Where it meets level with cabinet I want to use a T fitting to run a pipe down close to the ground that dead ends to a ball valve. From the T will be another quick connect to a filter/regulator that's attached to the cabinet.

I've read the ball valve at the lowest point along a pipe is to be used to get unwanted moisture out of the lines. It is carbon steel after all and will rust given enough time hence the reason for the filter. I'd love to use stainless steel, and I'm sure I can get some from work (I build storage tanks) but I'm also sure that it will be $$$$.

Thoughts, ideas, see anything wrong with my potential setup?

Thanks.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but pneumatic fittings are all NPT correct? So I'll need a couple NPT to pipe thread adapters?

Also, all pipe will be 1/2".

Finished the 2 shelves that Ive been meaning to build since I moved. They are 8' wide by 2' deep and 6' tall. I was able to get everything off the floor. I still have more organizing to do but its coming along.

823C12EE-23F4-4FDB-B9C0-AA0CA6E0E968.jpg

Its dark I know. Im working on getting some lights.

Finally was able to get my miata back to the house, time to get this thing running and sold before it gets too cold.

Pic of the shelves I built. I bought a nail gun. What a time saver. One of my new favorite tools.

D5F11F8C-FC45-45A6-B419-046E6CB1970E.jpg

This is the next part to get a redo. I need to order some steel to build my welding table it will be 36x48" and about 40" tall on casters. Im also building a new welding kart. Im keeping the gas bottle beside the air compressor and having a longer gas line made where I can roll the welder around the garage without having to deal with the heavy bottle.

A0D86E91-4EFE-4393-8BDA-EB7F440C6A79.jpg

I only have 2 outlets in the garage which *****!! The outlet to the garage door opener is 15 amps and will hold the compressor, I have yet to check to see if it will hold the welder, the last house had a 20amp that I used for welding. Not so lucky here.

BCF4E148-F182-43C2-B3A8-FC0196F5DC80.jpg

So next on my list it to build a welding table and kart, throw away the cheap red harbor freight roller kart I have as I don't really have a need for it here. Buy some lights for the space. Then start building on the locost some more.

Took me a while to hang that one. It's pretty huge and its tight over there right now.

Don't mind the messy work bench. I'm still trying to get things squared away in there. It's still a mess. Gotta have the caterham poster for inspiration for my build.

I found the superman and the muffler metal signs at a local hobby shop. $11 each, a little pricy but I like them.

Nice looking shop - is that pic on the all of the green locust taken at Fontana dam?

Not sure if you are into Autocrossing - but highly recommend the local CCR-SCCA chapter as they put on some good events at Zmax Dragway!

I'm not sure where the pic was taken at. I wanna say I found the pic on Amazon.

Oh yea I've been to a couple zmax auto-x events. I used to be really into auto-x a couple years ago. I plan on getting my kart running so I can go to some more next year.

Spent the other night cleaning the garage floor. I should have took a before pic. It looks a lot better now. The epoxy has peeled up in some areas. I would love to fix it but it's still a rental after all.

Hung up some more pics of well, gotta have my pin ups and my cosplay girls to look at. Hahaha don't mind the carpet roll. I use it to lay on when I'm working under the vehicles. The white shelf is going away and I'm building a 6' by 30" cabinet. The air reel will be going on it as well as a 3/16" stainless steel top I'm getting from work.

Done with garage wall art as I'm now out of room.

New stereo is installed now as well, I just need to run the wires so I can mount the 2 other speakers to the door side of the garage.

Managed to get 2 of the 5 lights hung. These little guys are so bright. Can't wait to get the other side of the garage finished.

I bought a chain light switch that is used in ceiling fans and I use it to turn on the lights. I keep it plugged in this way I don't have to use a ladder to turn the light on. Works great, hope the switch holds up to it.

B20BCFD8-DAD5-4E16-9FD5-6FFDC018CB1D.jpg

I may shorten the wires as soon as I figure out if that's where I want the light to be. It was raining here so I didn't want to open the garage door. I plan on having the the center of the light where the garage door stops so when the door is up I still have half the light shining down.

Close up of the switch. 3 bucks at Home Depot.

3 more to hang and I'll be done with this little project and onto the next.

I was able to get the rest of the lights hung minus the one as I ran out on the harness to wire up.

Made a vertical stand for the kart and the kart stand so they won't take up so much room.

Was easy to build and works great.

Wooden cabinet I plan on building. It will be 6' wide 30" deep and I forget how tall, but tall enough for me to put the shop vac inside. I have a 3/16" stainless steel sheet on top.

Also the whole family got bicycles. Those had to be hung from the shelf. Not enough room elsewhere in the garage.

Bought a new toy the other day. Harbor freight 20 ton press. Pressed out some hubs and wheel bearings. Works like a charm.

Skimming so I may be missing something here but NPT is National Pipe Thread so no adapters needed.

I just moved from Charlotte to Winston Salem, NC. Got a new job welding, loving it so far.

The new garage is a little smaller but it's about 3-4 feet taller so lots more over head room.

This is what I get to work with.

663E4477-2172-4215-A9CB-4E3AC392D965.jpg

It's almost done to my liking. I just have a couple more things to move around and I'll be settled in for good. I'll be sure to update this more. I also started a business. I'll be sure to show you all that as well in a different thread as well as in here.

I'll grab some more pics once I get it the way I want. I still have a lot to accomplish in this space before im completely happy. It's getting there though.

Added 240 outlet today. Threw in a 40 amp breaker. I still need to run an extension cord to the welder.

Also found out why one of my outlets stopped working.

ABDA6A33-F147-4CDA-8B76-733D857A639A.jpg

I never have enough light at my welding table. This fixed the issue, when the door is down it's almost too bright.

Door up.

This is an older pic, I've sinced moved the welding table to the other side.

I plan on getting rid of both shelves and building 1 large one so the right side of the garage will be empty so I can pull a car in and work on it.
