I watched a video about the new Dewalt tool chest today and it does not look that great. Looks a bit small and clunky. Is it the old yellow box just redone in black? I have not seen it in the stores yet.

What do you guys think?

I don't know why they keep bothering, last ones bombed now this? Who wants a tool chest with a top that has 1/2 of it taken up by a open compartment and 1/3 of the bottom taken up by insanely deep drawers. If you have a lot of power tool with blow mold cases but I don't really see a market for it. Looking forward to seeing it on clearance, might pick up a top box when it does. At least milwaukee did some interesting things with their box, I don't see a big difference between this and the old yellow boxes.

Why does the video show up as a link and now able to be watched on the page?

To me, it is only 6 inches wider than the old yellow box. The drawers are deep, but that means many less drawers. The auto close feature looks to be "meh" at most. Why the chrome parts? is this the 80's?

Am I missing something. You said the same as the guy in the video, that it was 6" wider.

But if the old box was 36" and the new one is 40" , isn't that 4" wider?

It looks to be an improvement on the yellow ones but its obviously still not aimed at the mechanics market, more general tool storage with lots of room for power and cordless tools.
I like that the top box now has a full width drawer, along with the one in the bottom box, giving you two of the most useful sized ones.
The deep bottom drawers do wast space if you don't need to house bulky items but who would want shallow ones down that low anyway, since they have dual runners it may be possible to change each out for a pair if you could get spares and the dimensions worked out, they may even make an alternative version at some point.
They could do with making a mid box for it with about 4 or 5 shallow drawers for smaller items, the stack wouldn't be too high with another 12" or so added in.

I could see getting one of the yellow ones if they clearance them. I'd bracket mount it to the wall above where I park the floor jack and put all my cordless stuff and drill bits, etc. in it. I don't see it as a serious tool box and when I played with the drawers on one at HD the snap closed feature was odd. But, since all my cordless stuff is Dewalt and doesn't fit well in my regular box, I may find room for one.

When you write "fail again?", I assume you mean fail to be a market success.

I've checked out the 36" cabinets at HD and found them rather nice. If I was in the market, I'd consider a set.

BTW, I much prefer yellow to black. Garages are too dark to bring in large black objects. The brighter, the better. Everything I can paint white, I do, and I have tons of lights installed. Never enough.

Bit late on getting one on clearance, HD clearanced them out for $125 for the top and $225 for the bottom early this year.

I'd prefer it in yellow, or another brighter colour, the drawers and top would suit the sort of stuff i would want to put in it but i am not a mechanic working on cars.

I can't watch the video at work right now but why is it a fail again?

Fail? Got the 36" bottom roller. Dewalt yellow in the garage that can't be missed! 200lb bottom drawer holds all the big Dewalt power tools and the other drawers above it are just as useful....just maybe not for the mechanic hand tool sets. The new black Dewalt tool box has made some nice improvements but at the price I paid for the yellow 36", I ain't got no complaints and wish I bought another.

It would work for me but I'm a semi pro home garage diy'er! I could store a lot of power tools that currently sit under my bench and have all the chargers and batteries up top.
