Hey Everybody, its been a while since my last post due to some family stuff, but here is a video I made to get my mind off the situation. I know this tool cart has been reviewed before but I figured it doesnt hurt to have another happy owners thoughts.

Recently I picked up this tool cart and its awesome. So much more versatile than my craftsman box at a similar price.

Here is my take on the Harbor Freight 5 drawer tool box.

A guy I work with has one of these at work and I occasionally borrow tools from it. IT is well built, but has 2 flaws IMO. If the lid is closed, you can't open any of the drawers and I hate drawers with latches to keep them closed.

I can defiantly see the latches slowing down a fast paced shop. I like them because they keep my little nephews out unless I am around.

In the HF toolcart mod thread I believe someone posted how to close or open stuff in a certain order so that the drawers will open with the top down. Don't know if it has to be done every time though.

imho the main drawback to hf carts/boxes is the lack of parts/support. $165+tax and assembly (which for me would include a few bucks in better fasteners), and we're at about $240 with time and labor.

$60 more and you are into used truck brand cart territory. jmho. those carts are nice though.

What kind of hardware did you choose to upgrade too? I wouldn't mind strengthening it even more.

I hope you at least give yourself the friends and family discount on labor.

I just meant everything it uses that can be replaced with better stuff at Ace--which every time I enter that fastener section for i drop about $15 no matter what:)

There are threads on various forums throughout the net where guys do tons of stuff to these. Cool video btw:beer:

That makes more sense, I did not know you had friends helping.
The movie is Faceoff.

I recently picked up two of the folding side trays for my HF cart. Really makes it nice the have somewhere to lay my tools other than in the top of the cart. And for $20 bucks each my wallet did complain one bit. Good video btw.

I have the Blue Point version, same box. I cheated & put on Snap On badges. I use it for odds & ends tools at work. You are right, pretty good box! Great job on the video!

Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking of adding on the side trays for more workspace.

OK one thing I have to say here.

So yes some of their stuff has really terrible hardware. The welding cart for example, the 2 & 3 shelf simple carts. The various stands and supports for things. and so on.

The hardware from lowes, ace, wherever is probably nicer than the bolts I got for mine. But not enough to justify the purchase price. I have bought a lot of hardware for assembling HF and similar items. This one was fine to use the hardware they supplied. Seriously.

I do some video work myself, nice job on the scene cuts and pan/zoom.

I gotta ask though, you buy Harbor Freight stock or something recently :)

I recently picked up a tool cart that's single drawer and two shelves and I was amazed out how much less fatigued I was at the end of a job when I wasn't walking back and forth across the shop. They're worth it if for only that reason alone.

I love mine, only complaint is the the cheap drawer liners tear easily.

Great video for sure. I have always read about how good these carts are, but man way those drawers wiggle when you open and close things, that is awful. Maybe it was from the camera, maybe not.

that drawer wobble came from the 4 swiveling wheels (probably not locked) and probably not heavily loaded or more heavily top loaded.

It's not a real concern with this over any other cart of similar size and style.

Hey, G.I., at about the 57 second mark, what are those
offset, dual-ended ratcheting box wrenches in your bottom
drawer?

They are offset dual end ratcheting wrenches. I picked them up years ago and cant remember where. They are unbranded and most likely hf or another cheap brand. They work well, but the offset limits their application.

No stock options here. I just really like that tool box. Hf will surprise you!

I worked with a guy who had the blue point cart, compared it to my hf cart. As expected, the bp cart was much nicer, lid went vertical and the cart was made out of thicker metal. So not the same but easy to see what cart hf copied to make their own. I paid $165 for my hf, I would buy a good condition bp version for $300 and consider it worth the difference.

Remember some might think you actually mean the "same" cart as in made in the same plant or something with a different name. It's not, significant differences in quality and I'm not saying the hf is junk, just not the same as the bp cart.
