I have a Sears compressor about 8 years old. The upper gasket on the pump part has started leaking when filling. Where can I get a replacement? Does anyone know who would have manufactured it? The local Sears is quite unsure, and I won't be dealing with Sears service centre again after what we call "the dryer fiasco"

The compressor has been great and I'd really like to fix it. Can I manufacture a new gasket myself? If so what material should be used?

Post the Sears model number. The prefix will tell you who made the compressor.

Looks like a Campbell Hausfeld compressor. Google the model number and you should be able to find a parts list...

Try Sears.com. Go to "Parts Direct" and put in the
Model no. and you should get a parts list.

I have never had a problem ordering parts from Sears online. Like JHW said, you can find the parts list online and order the part you need. I usually have them is a couple of days.

Craftsman OEM List
One frequently asked question concerning Sears tools is "Who made this product for Sears?" Often the model number will have the form nnn.xxxxx, in which the 3 or 4 digit prefix indicates the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Some prefixes have been used for more than one manufacturer, and several manufacturers have been assigned more than one prefix.
A list of manufacturers is compiled here. Those entries in UPPER CASE are from a Sears document, "Standard Brand Source Number Reference", dated May 1995. Those entries that contain lower case are for tools that have been compared to non-Craftsman models made by the same manufacturer, or from indications as to the OEM in the documentation or model number tag. Lower case entries also contain data extracted from internet sources, USENET articles from the "rec.woodworking" newsgroup, participants of www.owwm.com, or emails from knowledgeable enthusiasts. Google led me to devilbiss who have the manual listed but have blanked out the 2 pages with the parts breakdown. ManualsOnline think the part # belongs to a tent.

Those evil buggers!!! I also found this manual online, and what do you know, they have DELETED entirely the pages with the parts diagrams on them (pp. 22-25) ! See for yourself:

So it's a Devilbiss compressor for sure - one that Dewalt also used (but painted yellow). So maybe try an air compressor parts place (you will probably have to call them) that can try to cross-reference what their number for that pump is.

If you cannot find a replacement you can make your own.

Compressor head gaskets are not rocket science.
Use the old one as a pattern on a piece of breakfast food box cardboard.
Lots of gasket goop on both sides and crank it down.

I did this on a neighbors at my old house over 10 years ago.
It is still going strong, although admittedly not in heavy duty service.

The guy who showed me this trick said he sometimes had to use two layers of cardboard if the head was warped.
The trick, he said, was to not to afraid to use plenty of goop.

Fleet Farm sells rolls of gasket material, and it is cheap..

I'd bet most auto parts stores have it too.

Actual gasket material will have better creep relaxation properties than cardboard, and will be waterproof.

I have the same compressor There are 2 gaskets. One on top of reed plate and one under read plate. Top gasket is A20868 and bottom gasket is Z-CAC-4212-1.

919 is DeVilbiss Air Power (part of Black and Decker/Dewalt). I'm sure if you call them up, they will probably even mail you the gasket at no charge. They made that unit for Sears.
