I was perusing craigslist and I saw a P&C toolbox and set of mechanics tools. The tools in the ad looked NEW, and the box was older and looked really cool so I thought it was either a scam or gem. The location was over two hours away, so I made arrangements with the owner via sketchy texts and set out out.

I was a little nervous, although the google mapper showed a nice neighborhood...and it was. I arrived and the owner was a pleasant young guy who told me his dad had passed away and he was selling his tools. I paid him a small fee and loaded them up. Almost all the tools are P&C, and the sets are all almost complete, with only a few wrenches (2) and a ratchet (1/4") missing. Wow! The tools are all in perfect shape, with the exception of the screwdrivers.

I could not believe I scored the box and the tools for $150. :wtf: I thought it was a scam. I don't know how many other people like P&C but they are local to Portland, Oregon so they are one of my favorites.

Awesome set! Do you think that dates to before or after Plomb acquired P&C? I'm guessing after; those ratchets looks very Proto'ish.

I think it's after.
That 3/8 ratchet is identical to Proto. Also, the gear is black oxide so it's gotta be 1960's.

The ratchets are identical to Proto. I'm pretty sure it was after the acquisition, which I believe was around 1968. A receipt from the torque wrench in the box was dated 1970.

Seriously - that tool chest is a thing of beauty. Those P&C tools are also too cool. Nice find! Lots of that stuff practically looks NOS.

Fantastic find, funny thing but on Saturday I was hunched over on some ones garage floor buying up his old rusty tools and one of his 1/2 sockets was a P&C. Crazy because all his tools looked like dog **** no one would go near them but me; it was my lucky day!:thumbup:

Here a few more shots of the tools..there are a set of Hazet metric sockets from Germany, a pair of P&C battery pliers, an Indestro super ignition wrench set with little tiny ignition pliers, and two P&C hammers, a soft blow and a ball peen.

Cool! Any info is appreciated, I am a neophyte to tool collecting. I really like P&C tools, they are local and seem to be very high quality. I was amazed the owner had it on CL for over three weeks with no responses!

I was researching the tool brand online and I found a great site dedicated to P&C. I'm sure most of you have already seen it but I thought I'd post it in case there are other newbs like me still picking up the basics.

P&C History

I found a chisel I had stashed somewhere (I had forgotten about it) and it has the same little sales sticker as the 3/4" drive socket.

As tool companies go, P&C was not a household name.

That said they made fine tools. The 1st time I ever encountered a P&C tool
was in 1988. I was attending a Vo-Tech and enrolled in a body shop class. Their entire tool crib was almost completely P&C. They also had a small amount of Fairmount tools.

Just saying...
