I guess if I had a small cordless 1/4 gun or something. I just don't see myself using my 1/2" gun to blast tiny 10mm bolts off lol.
I'm fine using a ratchet on stuff 10mm n under

Harbor Freight really screwed up; they offer the most complete Impact Swivel Sockets in their 1/2"-inch drive, and they contain a pin; but I'll give them whirl, as I've never owned a set like these before.

Are there any impact swivel sockets with magnets ?
It'd nice not to drop the nut or bolt into some black hole.

Feel free to laugh at me here. I haven't used impact swivel sockets on an impact gun since I was younger, installing trailer hitches for Uhaul. When you're cranking in bolts and you slip off the bolt, the ******* socket can be pretty dangerous lol. I prefer to leave unbalanced things off of my impact guns. Work great on an air ratchet. I don't think I've even attempted to use one on an impact gun since I left Uhaul, maybe it's just paranoia lol.

A mechanic I know (motorsports) has only the snap on wobbly sockets in his toolbox. He figures if you can't get a wrench on it a regular socket probably won't work

Can someone explain what the hoopla is about the HarderFreight pin spring, and why it's dangerous?

I think the spring pops off a lot causing it to come apart. Not sure

Do any of you guys use the swivels as your primary sockets,
even if you're not using an impact gun or not even needing the swivel?

For 3/8", almost exclusively. I rarely touch my normal impact sockets, far less likely to break things (10mm, 12mm and 13mm) with a 300ft-lb impact on an angle.

I wouldn't suggest hand torquing swivels though, Cr-Mo is softer and the pin may deform and break.

Ok, so you use swivels for all your impact needs, but for normal ratcheting action without an impact, you just use regular sockets?

Aside from lugs and axle nuts (or other right-in-yer-face, wide open fasteners), if there is a slightest bit of obstruction or clearance issue, I bust out the swivels.

I don't use chrome and impact sockets interchangeably. Chrome is too hard and brittle for impacts and Cr-Mo is too soft to be used in place of chrome on hand tools.

I used my Sunex 3/8" swivels this week.
They came in very handy.

Great rec from a great forum!

I see this is an old thread brought back from the dead, but does anybody have any experience with both the Sunex and GP? I love the Sunex impact sockets I have, but I always am interested in trying new stuff...

I have both Snap On and Sunex 1/2" drive impact swivels and love them both. I've been reaching for the Sunex more often to see if I can break them. So far they're holding up.

I have the GP swivel impacts. Couldn't be happier. Also have the Sunex regular impacts. Great tools, also.
