I inherited a Quincy compressor head from my father. It has a tag on it that reads
model 308 22
295616S
SIZE 3 & 1 3/4x2 1/2

where the & is some symbol I can't identify. I have managed to figure out that it was built in the 50's. The question is what size motor do I need to run it?

Depends on the output you gear it for. IIRC they are a ~2-3hp unit. Call quincy and ask them for a performance curve for that unit. It will have charts of output at specific RPM and HP needed to achieve that RPM. 5hp should be overkill, that is more 325 territory.
