I almost bought a house on 10acres and I was going to have my own gun range. The house I bought is on approx 2acres so no shooting.

yea my house is only on a little less than 4 acres but me and my dad own the 270 acre farm that surrounds my lot on every side. The gun range should be about 50 yards by 20 yards wide. Should be a good time when my buddies come over to shoot. And its tucked back in the woods

Had some free time and I worked on the gun range last night. Its about 20x50 yards of pretty level ground and im going to push it out to roughly 70 yards the next time out there. Had two stumps in the way and 3 trees I want to take down still. Might get a chance tomorrow night to finish it up. Then I just need to move some dirt for the back stop and level out the pad on the low side.

Just a little rainy day update:

Lot is cleared just need to run my disc through it a few times and pick up all of the roots and level it out with the dozer. Sold the wood logs for a nice little profit. Random guy that happened to stop by bought them.

House plans and Shop plans are at the county for approval. Have the first round of comments back just working on some revisions. This new international 2012 building code is a PITA!! Only other thing I need is my Well permit. Might have everything ready for my building permits by the end of next week I hope.

Plan is to break ground on the house and use the fill for the basement to build the pad for the shop floor. Then put up the pole barn as the house construction starts.

The gun range is also ready for some Lead. Built a huge backstop! Cant wait to try it out.

I should be out on the lot this weekend working if the rain ever stops. Ill get some new pictures this weekend.

But when you need some it is $100 a dump truck load. Therefore, if you have some extra it should be valuable. But it actually have to pay to have it hauled off. With your plan you will break even.

I will probably need a little more fill dirt around the house and the pole barn to meet the existing grade once finished but I have two farm ponds that I can expand if I need the dirt. The basement will only be 7' deep below grade. So 1' of the wall will stick up above existing grade and then I will have 2 courses of 8" block on top of the poured wall to help square things up. This is what my builder suggested. So ill bring the grade up around the house about a foot to get 6" of fall in the first 10' to meeting the building code. The lot as its sits is pretty flat.

Building Permit is ready for the house. Should have the permit for the shop next week. Going to work on the lot tomorrow and do the stakeout for the house, shop, and driveway next week. Might even get to break ground before the end of the month

Why put the laundry room on the first floor when all the laundry is on the second? I would move the laundry room to the second floor closer to the bedrooms. Carrying laundry up and down stairs is an unnecessary pain.

I'm making some changes to that... The random closest on the second floor at the end of the hallway I'm going to plumb for a stackable washer and dryer in case I don't like the laundry room downstairs. And the door to the storage space will be through the master bedroom. That's where my upstairs unit is going. My laundry is downstairs now and I don't mind it but I also don't have kids or a wife.

Few pictures from the last 2 months as I slowly worked on getting the lot cleaned up at night and on weekends. I basically cut all of the trees up into logs and hauled them about 300 feet away. Made a pile of logs, stumps, and limbs. The logs I sold to a local guy for firewood which helped pay for my fuel expenses, the stumps and limbs I plan on burning. I did 98% of the work myself. I did have one of my guys give me a hand one night and one Saturday to help run the chainsaws while I held them in the air with the excavator to cut off the stumps. It worked out great, it was just time consuming hauling everything out one bucket full at a time. Then I ran my disc through and hand picked up all the limbs and roots a few times and finally graded it all out so I can stake it out this weekend. Enjoy!

Brand New Grapple all bend to H***. The company took it back and is making me a much stronger one. I literally bend it in the first 5 minutes. Very bad design.

Thanks man. That is an irrigation well for the pivot irrigation on the farm.

Yea thats grain corn in front of the lot. In some of the shots from earlier this summer you can see it standing and the most recent shots its gone. Gives me some seclusion for a few months out of the year.

1000' of driveway is boxed out and rolled. Few more things to do next weekend. Stone is coming wednesday the 10th since i have the day off. Its been a long weekend on the bulldozer! The driveway ended up being about 13' wide inside the box. Ill put down stone 4" thick 13' wide and end up paving 12' wide to give me 6" of overhang on each side. Once i get everything graded its going to look awesome coming up this driveway every day! I didn't get any pictures but i promise to get some next weekend!

Building permit for my shop will be ready to be picked up on Monday or Tuesday!

Wow, i had no idea there was such rural areas in Delaware. Looks like it could be Iowa or some place similar. I'd always thought the east coast was super built up. Looks like fun! Will keep a look out for more.

Little Update:

Got the Driveway in last week and finished tying into the main road yesterday. Boxed out the Road 6" deep and 8" by the entrance. Its 12'6" wide to 13' in some areas and tapers out to 22' at the road. Its about 900' back to the building lot itself. Then I rolled out Fabric and hauled in 250 tons of stone. Martin Limestone Tailgated stone 8" thick and by the time I back bladed the stone it was just about perfect. This is just a quick back blade and roll. I hope to get it graded up a little better on Wednesday when I have off. I started pulling back the road box and getting the sides graded up yesterday. I plan on putting a few lights down one side once its all finished up so I don't drive off into the irrigation pond

I'm going to get the topsoil stripped where the house and shop go on Wednesday as well and dig the basement on Saturday. I hope to have the guy pouring the basement under contract by mid week. Just waiting on a revised estimate.

Picked up my pole barn permit today.

I really wanted to break ground on the house this week but 3" of rain is going to slow that down. I still might get the topsoil stripped and finish dressing up the driveway on saturday. Need to get the batter boards layed out and dig the basement next weekend. Its no small task with as much dirt as i have move out of the way by myself. Maybe i can talk my dad into running the loader for the day. Knowing him he will want to be the one digging.

Few updated pics of the driveway from Saturday. Got the driveway graded out and worked on cleaning up the side slopes on the right side. Still have the left side to do. Also got the topsoil stripped for the house, shop, and parking area. My dad stopped by and ran the loader for a few hours while I stripped the topsoil off with the dozer. Things are starting to come together!

The fuel is locked except for one tractor. Not too many problems with that. People will steal building materials. I plan to have a few cameras and lights put up to help deter criminals. With the rise in the drug problem around here people will steal anything. One reason I want to finish the shop up right away is to store building materials.

Digging the basement Saturday and hopefully get at least the basement footers done next week before the holiday messes us up. Then after the walls are poured my mason is going to do some work before its water sealed. Dig the footers for the house and porches and pour the basement at the same time. Then lay the block for the garage, porches, and 3 courses ontop of the poured wall to straighten things up. Going to be a fun next few weeks. Oh and I'm starting the shop somewhere in that time frame also!

Finally Broke Ground! But I only got half of the basement dug. Took a little longer then expected to get the batter boards set up. Turns out my level is jacked up and had to go back and set all of my elevations with a laser. The elevation on the batter boards will be my final elevation after the 8' wall and 3 courses of block on top.

Started digging the basement around 2 on Saturday and I ran out of daylight by 430. Spread some of the dirt for the floor on the pole barn the rest will be in a few piles in the front and back yard for backfill. Got my dad to hop on the loader and move dirt while I was digging. It went pretty fast once I was setup.

The guy called this morning ready to pour my basement but I had to tell him to hold off until next week. *****! Oh well what can I do. I will finish digging the basement on Friday since I have the day off and get the pad ready for the shop on Saturday so we can get started on that.

Basement is dug and graded. Just have to make some adjustments to the batter boards tomorrow. They should get the footers and walls poured next week on the basement and then get the rest of the footers and block laid the following week. Also got the shop pad half way leveled out. My dozer that has the laser is down right now with a broken hydraulic line and the part won't be in until mid next week. So ill put that on next week and get the pad for the shop finished up. I have some pictures ill post later. Ill be out there again tomorrow working.

Is there a drainage swale on the uphill side of the driveway. I'm assuming you put one in, just hard to see in the pictures.

Reminds me that I need a load of gravel on my driveway. Mine has lost much of its crown and there's not enough material on the sides to build it back up.

Is the JD a 64xx?
