Cash buyer.

Looking for matching KR537D and KR557D in very good condition or better condition - no junk.

I am in Southern MD but will drive a ways for the right boxes.

I had this set when I was young and in the bodywork business - trying to recapture my youth.

Sorry mine are such basket cases or I would gladly offer them up! My KR557D/KR537D restoration project has been challenging.. to put it nicely. I keep telling myself they will be nice when I'm done..

Your thread is what got me thinking about my old boxes. I am sure they will turn out great - no project is complete without some setbacks along the way.

I loved those little drawers on the right side of the K537D's.

Good luck with the rest of your restoration - I look forward to see some more pictures.

That's awesome that I've provided some inspiration to you! My noxes have come off of Craigslist, so if I see any down here in Hampton Roads, I'll post the ad.

Some guys on here do concours quality work so it's encouraging to hear from folks as I muddle through..

The only thing I dislike about the KR537 series are the horrible hinges for the top cover. My were bent and broken. The rest of the box is built like a battleship, but those hinges are junk. Ive almost smashed my hand a dozen times before I took the cover off. I'm going to try and fit a gas strut set up when I get to final assembly.

Good luck in your search, more pics tomorrow, with hopefully less screw ups!

Who knows?
Wish I could help you man.

I have a KR537, but rough does not begin to describe it. I'd love to find the same combo you're looking for. If I do, and I don't buy it myself, I'll be sure and let you know.

This is on local CL http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/tls/5227996612.html I don't know what the different letters mean at the end of the part #'s, bearing drawer slides? Price seems kind of steep, but if they are mint.......
HTH, Jim

Could be fine, but I'm suspicious of Craigslist ads that are long on story and short on pictures. It doesn't smell like scam, but I get a whiff of flake.

I appreciate the pics. That is exactly what I am looking for.

I assume that is in Texas? At a flea market? Unfortunately, that is a little further than I am willing to drive for boxes.

It was in New Mexico, the price was crazy, but I don't think they would have taken my offer of $800.:dunno:

If you've got bodywork skills (I sure as hell don't! ) look for some beater boxes, they are out there. It's a lot more work than scuffing and rattle can painting but it's satisfying to see it come together.

I think this might be a better option, unless you just want originality. Look for something that is straight, free of dents, extra holes and rot. Then spend the time and money to do a proper paint job. Is there a specific style you are looking for? The ones you posted are mid 80's.

The other factor to consider is to look for parts availibilty. I've contacted Snap On for hinges for the KR537 and drawer slides. The extremely helpful rep has searched this stuff out and it's getting rare in their inventory. I have slides coming but the hinges for the top cover are out of stock.

That's the successor, the 637/657, mostly ball bearing, no dividers  No little side door.
