Welcome !

WOW that is a lot of work, jsut to get to starting your expansion !

Mansard roofs are not popular in the US. Most people prefer Gambrel roofs.

Kongfuzi,

Please post pictures of your progress. It looks like a great project.

By the way, how old is your house? I'm guessing about 80 years old.

How far outside Moscow are you? It looks like a nice suburban neighborhood.

2002! Wow, was I wrong!

The fence in this pic looks pre-war. The concrete posts have a weathered look that says antique.

Will you use the new space for storage or another purpose? Every man needs a place where he can drink beer, read his books, and enjoy his hobbies without interference from the ladies.

Very impressive work on raising the house.

Do you have traditional tool stores where you can buy power tools and lumber? Is it hard to get tools and lumber? I love seeing life so far away. Your village looks like it could be on a Christmas card.

We have special stores (OBI, leruamerlin) where you can buy everything for repair or construct. and also we have the bigest construction market in Europe at 20 km from my house.

first time i see cooking like this, very interesting

Russian cuisine is for the majority of the world unknown. But if we turn to the Internet, you can find a lot of interesting and very simple dishes. in Russian cuisine does not use a variety of sauces and condiments. And due to this natural taste remains.
From features of cuisine for example is one of the favorite dishes is the mushrooms with it in a different form - fried, salted, dried. And most importantly, that we do not buy mushrooms we assemble them in the forest in August and September.

We have quite a few options here in the US for tools and building supplies. There are still a few independent building suppliers, but the "big box" retailers have grown to dominate the US market. A lot of home owners use these "big box" retailers, where commercial and professional builders and craftsmen still typically use the independent suppliers. The Home Depot is probably the largest volume retailer of them all. Here are links to the biggest homer improvement retailers here in the US. Just a note that Craftsman is a brand of Sears that is known for tools and not for building supplies.

Here is a customer satisfaction report on these businesses as well:

Yes! That is exactly what it means. They send trucks to the store anyway, so they just add your item onto the next truck that is delivering supplies to your local store. It don't cost them anything extra since the truck was going to the store anyway.

Welcome from southern New Jersey.

We are like the rest of the world, Meaning a lot of stuff here is made in China. Even some of the name brand stuff like snap on, crafstman, are made in China now. Between the Internet, international trade, and jet travel, The world is shrinking and more and more people are using the same stuff everywhere. Not sure if I would want to pay a premium for crafstman or Snap on tools overseas since the full replacement warranty would be difficult, or expensive, to take advantage of.

I've been traveling all over the globe for work and being a tool guy I try to hit a local hardware store to see what different tool and hardware items they are selling that we don't have. Suprisingly everything today is a the same except the electrical outlet that the tool plugs into. You go to Bunnings hardware in Australia and it is just like a Home Depot or lowes, same exact tools that you get in the U.S. With a different plug on it. Same thing in France and South America. I've never been to Russia (yet), but I just looked up tool stores in Moscow and the first thing I saw was a Dewalt drill exactly like I would get here (with a different plug on the charger) the Facebook photos of the OBI hardware chain store in Russia looked like a Home Depot.

I noticed the same thing in the department stores I shopped at internationally and Suprisingly the grocery stores (except the cheese is a lot better in France:beer:).

Since making this observation while traveling, I now try to look for the similarities and differences of the tools and items in people's garage when I see photos and videos from other countries. Suprisingly I can't tell the the difference sometimes (except the plug on the wall and the accent of the guy in the video). heck, I even notice that the children's toys in the background are the same almost everywhere. When we were growing up, I bet we played with different toys. Today, children from all over the world are playing with the same toys.

I'm sure with the Internet you can get the same stuff in Russia as you can get anywhere else.
