The lock was installed in one piece, so yes it will tilt out of that hole, once the nut is removed. The nut will slide out off over the cam. When you rent a Post Office box, they change the lock in one piece. The one on the far right is from a P.O. box and the cam is permanently attached like yours.

Nice locks :D

Well I just unloaded the Beach stack I posted about before. Went and got it tonight with my best friend. At 500$ plus gas and toll it's probably more than mostly anyone here would have paid but it worked for me. I needed a toolbox, and I'd been looking for a vintage Beach combo in good shape for a long time so it fit the bill.

Will post some pictures of it when I have a chance to get it cleaned up, the old guy who had it before the guy I bought it from must have done some woodworking because it's full of dust. Probably brought back a bit of PEI red dirt along with it too. ;)

That's great. Glad you were able to get something you really wanted and been looking for. I would paid more for something I've been searching for than the going price also. Its a great looking box and wish you luck wit it.

Thanks. Now I'm just waiting for the inevitable. It's twin is obviously going to pop up locally for half the price now that I've bought one.

Guy was also selling an '09 G8 GT, damn that's a nice car.

Good for you. Life's too short. If you can afford what you like buy it and don't look back.

Well that always happens. It's Murphy's law. Well, twins are always a good thing. LOL

Drivesitfar suggested I post up my recently acquired Huot machinist's chest. Paid $50. Left hand lid support is there, but was not bolted in so dropped down beside the drawers, so I will have to remove the drawers to get it out. Hopefully the right side support is down there as well...

Paid $40 for the Kennedy, but it was full of stuff and about $10 for the Craftsman with contents. Pics below.

Crappy night shot

Back home

The thing is very large compared to a Kennedy 520 or similar Craftsman chest:

TimDP: nice purchase and thanks for posting it over here. another member PackardV8 (Jack Vines) had a top support missing like yours on his Huot box a couple years ago and found out that there was double wall construction on his box so it was a PIA. hopefully you'll find an easier fix.

TimCA: cool Beach boxes and i like the quality of them easily as much as other quality boxes so i don't think you overpaid. sounds like a fun trip too.

It was a fun trip. We don't spend as much time as we did back in high school, I used to call his mother Mom as a joke because I was there all the time.

Here's my first "real" toolbox. Glad to finally have a place to store all my stuff. When my girlfriend, when she saw it, remarked something like "Well that's big, it should be the last one you ever buy". I pretended I didn't hear her ;)

Other than missing the keys it's in great shape, it's still a little dirty as I only gave it a quick once over, will clean it up some more eventually.

That Beach box is gorgeous, would love to find one of those around here

Edit: I not sure what I find so appealing about them, but I just really love the look of them, maybe it's the drawer pulls

Just dawned on me that my old tool box stack "The Stacker" is well over 20 years old (probably purchased in the early '80s). Do not remember where I got it and have no idea who it was made by, but here's a pic next to its HF 26" replacement. The Stacker is still in the shop, although the boxes have been separated.

It's not strictly a toolbox, but I thought I would share this LYON two drawer cart that bought at an auction for 5 dollars. I'm guessing that the cart is from the 1940ies, based the color, metal casters. The machine shop it came out of was started to support the war effort and was closed down in 1995. The shop was vacate until the heirs had an auction and liquidated the property this summer.

Cart was in rough condition when I got it. I had to grind off all the bolts just to get it apart. Then sandblasted, primed and painted it to match my craftsman toolboxes. I replaced the original metal casters with rubber to make it easier to move.

Here is a Dayton combo I bought at a garage sale for $55. After putting new locks on it, some minor fixin' and lubing and cleaning, I swapped it to a co-worker for a bunch of wrenches. I thought that it was pretty well put together: original paint had held up with no major rust, drawer slides were easy to repair, and the sheet metal was thick enough that it had few dents. A lot better than some newer boxes anyway. I wish I knew when it was made.

I wish I could figure out if my top was Waterloo, Dayton ect. There was no badge on it when I got it

A couple of SO boxes that I am working on. I think the little guy is K22. I think the cabinet is KR300D Rolla Bench and the top box is a KR 56.

Still trying to identify the bottom cabinet. The top is a 1940's k-55. Picked it up at an auction for $20. The bottom is wired for lights and has a "custom deluxe" emblem, although I'm not sure it didn't come off of a car. It was owned by someone who used to work at Patrick air force base. Anyone know what it is?

Do machinist's boxes count? Cuz I have a bunch of those.

tls1.jpg

4 are Kennedy, 2 Gerstner, 1 Union, 1 with no marks, and 1 with a faded decal that might be a Star. The mechanics box with the dogshit brown paintjob is an older Mac box. I also have a wide 7 drawer Kennedy that lives next to my drill presses just for drills.

No, they're not ALL full... not anymore at least. I recently bought a nice 60's-70's vintage Craftsman ball bearing roller chest and I moved all my taps and dies and my indicators into there, so I've got some drawers to fill.

If you want to look in my drawers I've got a little video tour at:

Here's a newly acquired Snap-on Hand carry box that I painted and then stripped cause I didnt like the paint job. When I stripped the paint it looked kinda nice so I left some of the residue which gave it a vintage look.

Rich: of course those old boxes count. i haven't clicked on the link yet because my laptop is having issues just staying on for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. very cool and thanks for sharing.

ALL: i picked up another cool carry box that i really didn't need. when has NEED ever been a factor though. is this one homemade or any ideas? it looks old and weighs a ton. any ideas of who made it or did i find another John Doe toolbox??

having issues with my laptop loading pictures so will post pictures soon. BTW should i start a thread with just old carry boxes or should we just keep posting them in this thread?

I have two tops and two bottoms, a 50's/60's top and the rest are 60's/70's, but still haven't found the time to do anything with them yet.

There are others posted in other threads around the forum.

Thanks for the pics Jake. Had read that blue was the most common color, but had not seen a pic of a blue yet. Wonder when they went from brown to blue?

More of my vintage tool boxes / chests. Snap On from my wifes uncle. I believe a Union and a 50's Kennedy with what I think is the original receipt. Last is the 30's Snap On I posted earlier.
