We're looking to expand our house. I called the APA cause we're in the rural use area (right on the line) and the lady told me that we're okay, it's only an issue if it is dealing with wetlands /shoreline development. They encourage development in these areas especially if near hamlets. I went to my town looking for a building permit and he told me to call the APA.. which I told him that I did. He gave me a indication letter which is really dated, 1950's. I called the APA again and she said that they do not use those letters any-more. Code enforcer said it has to be signed, I'm about ready to say to hell with it and just build the addition. Anyone deal with this or no what I can do?

The 'lady that told me it was OK", go visit her and have her put approval in writing. Probably never be an issue, but if you have a signature from a gov representative, it will go a long ways to work in your favor.

I would say get them all on the phone at the same time. Put them on hold and set up a conf. Call. I did that with the dmv or something and an. Insurance company. Boy, they did not like that at all but it was done quick. Came down to you need form xyz that magically appeared when put on the spot.

when you showed her the letter and she said 'we don't use that anymore' did she give you an example of the letter they do use? or is it a secret?
