that seem too bulk... i saw one from matco tool truck but i has no need... i already has 12mm 12pt swivel impact socket(snap on) and 12mm 12pt head bolt socket which it can use same... i have no problems.. i do see many ford techs would do their way...

What's the difference between that and an ordinary swivel socket? Edit: I get it. It is longer on the drive end, so you can angle your gun better.

I use a 12-pt impact that I got from the Snap-on truck. The package it came in said it was for the bearing caps on Detroit deisels. It is even longer than an ordinary deep impact. When I put it on a drive shaft bolt, it actually doesn't align 100% because of the bulk of my impact gun. We'll see if/when it strips. I do a couple Crown Vic trannies a month at my job.

That one looks to have too much meat on the socket.
I did alot of fords in my time and never needed one of those.

Short 12 mm impact 3/8 with a short 3" extension and a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter and one burp of the gun and there off.

The only variation from that I use is instead of an adapter to go 1/2 to 3/8 on the socket end, I use the 6 inch extensions that have a 1/2 drive female and a 3/8 drive male. They are stronger than the reducers.

I bought this tool shortly after this thread started and have used it once so far on a '05+ Crown Vic driveshaft. There was enough clearance.

Apex in the industrial fastener type catalog offers a number of swivel sockets on drive extensions, so does Snapon industrial. I have the Snapon set of non impacts, which some use on impacts anyway due to the small fastener size and related torque limits. This is a tool that can save time if you need it, outside of a production environment I'm not sure how useful it really is.
