After chasing parts for my corvette this morning I took the rest of the day off
I started reassembling one of my candy scales to put into the party garage

I started this project in May, I tore the scale down and sent the pieces out to be rechromed. This is what I started with, It's porcelain so after the teardown I sand blasted the scale then primed and blocked all the pieces

Last week I painted the scale
Today I spread all the pieces out on a towel and looked at what I had

After cleaning and polishing the small parts and hardware

Then I started reassembling the scale

and this is what it looks like tonight

I forgot to paint 2 pieces so thats for tomorrow

Nice work.
I need to start playing around with paint more to get comfortable with it.
Prep and clean up is always a pain.

Hi Don,
Guess what? They just had the episode of Extreme Hoarders on TV over here with you on it! What a thrill to see you and the garage etc especially as we have been there twice already!
The PPG group are really looking forward to their visit in November and also tell Ann that Vanley is now coming over and she will be with us on the visit to Don's Garage. She is looking forward to seeing you guys again.
Will be in touch before the visit and we did enjoy the show and are looking forward to seeing the Zephyr.
cheers David

You are right a little time with a spray gun in the hand will take a lot of the fear of screwing up go away, and you just have to take the good with the bad part of clean up

Hi don,
I just saw the episode on tv, very nice property, shop and collection. Hats off to you sir!
Beautiful achievement!
Toon

Thanks Toon
We are 2 weeks away from seeing the show, I'm so anxious to see how badly the show makes me look as a demanding guy LOL

Great job on the scale Don! Is the face of the scale original? How did you clean it?

Hi Coop

Thanks, the face is the original and I cleaned it with a bit of 3M swirl remover on a soft cloth and didn't push very hard and it polished the paint without removing the ink

Just awesome Don.

1/2 cup

Thanks, It's always great to hear from you.

I'm happy to hear that you saw the show.
The Zephyr looked pretty good when I got it back and after $15,000 and another month in my shop it looks and runs great.

We are looking forward to seeing you and the group again and what a treat to hear that your wife is coming too. We will be ready to party and eat in the diner again

I posted a couple of garage shots in the thread
"what did you do in your garage today"
And thought I would clarify it on my garage thread.

I have been thinking of changing up the party garage decor for a while, and Saturday we are having a gathering here of the historical society so I took the opportunity while cleaning up and getting ready to change things around a bit.
I have had several pieces sitting on the back wall waiting for a place to be seen.
And I have been adding items to several of my collections so I've needed to spread them out some as well.
Looking around the garage I have come up with some change ideas and this week I started making the changes

Here are some before and after shots of the place

BEFORE

2eyfhoz.jpg

AFTER
I moved the vehicle out of the bay next to the station
The battery charger collection has expanded a bit so it came out of the 30's garage

28a3tlf.jpg

And the alemite bench i picked up last year has now found a new home
The green cast is from the neon lights on the texaco station across the bay

5yytmg.jpg

My jack collection has grown by 4 in the last few weeks so I needed to find some wall space for them

w71zr5.jpg

When I moved the car out from the bay "Henry" needed a new place to stand

2priqdx.jpg

These are just a few of the many changes that have been made this week

I can still see part of my 56 Chevy behind the scales, is that where it displays or was it on the move to a new spot?

Looks great!

Thanks Coop
and thanks for following along

You will need an addition to the Big Party Garage soon.

Caddyman
You are closer to the truth than you know, but first I will be adding a couple of walls where the cars have been moved around first!!

I want to party!

christopher

First let me welcome you aboard the party train
Now just let me know when you're available and we'll get one together for ya.

Toolfool yes it has

A buddy of mine was over on friday and took the liberty to count yup my scales and he hit 25.

The historical party lasted 4 hours today and you're right I had to turn off the lights before the last few would leave lol.
There were about 35 of them that showed up (none had been here before so everyone was some what impressed. I got several leads from these guys, they know everything going on in town and where all the old gas pumps and equipment is and what is in all the old barns in the area :rocker::rocker:

It looks like "Henry" likes his new job very much :bounce: everything looks great as always Don

Thanks Hugo

Funny thing about "Henry" Today we has the historical society here
(average was over 70) lots of ladies, and I caught one of the ladies talking/yelling at the dummy thinking it was her husband :lol_hitti

Yes Herb you can
and that is its new resting place

Hi Don,
Greetings from 'Down Under'.
Looks like I may have my "American family" joining us on Sunday 8th at your garage! As well as the PPG Group (12) there will be Vanley and Chris plus 4 from Sydney (my son, wife and kids) plus my daughter in law's brother, wife and young son.
Is that OK with you? Will you have enough burgers, fries and shakes?

Cheers David

PS Have some great comments about the show here also. I thought that you were not 'demanding' with the guys on the show but played them off the break very well!

Just happen to catch the last part of the show last night as I was going to bed. Then they showed next weeks preview, and to my amazement I recognized the garage right away. So my alarm is set so that I don't forget about watching the show. As always Don the place looks great.

The DVR is set, looking forward to it. Maybe after the show you can let us know how scripted a reality show really is.

Can't wait to show off the Zephyr here next Tuesday (monday night)

Welcome to the party garage.
I can tell you that Rick and Chuck had no idea what they were about to see when they walked into my back yard or anything about the garage when they opened the door.
They wouldn't let them check out the upper level until the camera was up and ready to catch their first impressions

I certainly had no script to follow either

Thanks for all those hot tips on getting the garage back to normal guys

Last night I was crusin through C/L and ran across an interesting post with my kind of stuff for sale, but it was posted 2 months ago.
I wrote down the phone number and called it a night. I came in from working out in the garage this morning to grab my phone when I noticed the number from last night, so I gave it a try.
Sure enough a voice answered, and after explaining the reason for the call I was in my truck headed his way (about 45 minutes away)
I spent a good hour and a half visiting with my new best friend and this is what I came home with.

An all brass oil pump for a 30 gal lubester

adi6fq.jpg

A nice fire hose nozel.

rsygko.jpg

k1ds9g.jpg

The old air compressor that caught my eye last night, sitting on an old trailer with an old gas motor for power. The tank and battery to start the motor are missing

2hyfm3b.jpg

2pzxild.jpg

2pzxild.jpg

The compressor by itself is very cool

33tjn93.jpg

Then there was this old belt driven drill press, much like the one I found in Arkansas

142asmg.jpg

b7j586.jpg

And it came with this old motor ready to run

10i9rbo.jpg

And the last pick of the day were these three different train dollies
Each one has a different wheel configuration

Don you always seem to find the coolest stuff, that oil pump and the drill press are my favorites of the lot but I wouldn't turn down any of them.

I'm late to the party but wow, what a place. I spent most of last night reading through the bulk of it and decided I had better get out in mine and do some work. I have to say it was cool seeing your pair of 62 Chevs, my father in-law had a 62 409 four speed car and my dad had a 62 convertible.

I saw their description on the web, I love how they have to add drama to these shows. I don't even know you but someone as generous and welcoming as you seem to be tells me that isn't an accurate assessment.

The girls party sounds like a good time to hit some golf balls.
Nice find on Craigslist. I like the brass smooth bore nozzle. Those are heavy too.

Great scores Don, I particularly like the Buffalo drill press, it has a lovely patina.

Thanks for the visit 1/2 cup
That drill press was one of the items I saw that caused me to make the call

Welcome back JB

That oil pump was a very pleasant surprise when my new friend opened up a crate full of brass items. I felt like the pickers on T.V.

My father was a wood pattern maker at buffalo forge in the early 50's. That drill press looks to be earlier than that.

caddyman

I'm tickled to have found that drill and just this morning I found a thread here that shows one being restored I can't wait.

Mr Miller
first let me welcome you to the party.
I love the 409 car but the convertible lost my attention early on with too many problems and it is now history (but was a good trade)

As far as the show goes I'm dieing to see how they display my garage and me.

Thanks for the visit!!

Hi AK

The girls transformed my garage beautifully I had to hang around to direct the parking of all the cars
Here is the final look at the garage ready to start the party
