Well,
Unfortunately not much happened on the work shop truck today, as I was busy assembling & testing my new roller.
(Plus the fact a "mate" called buy for some welding on his trailer :wtf:)

I thought you may be interested in this:

It is designed for rolling long flat radi for Valance panels, running boards, the lower edges of Pickup beds, tailshaft tunnels etc.
It is 8' long & can do a radius of 2", 3", 4" & 8" when I get the last piece of 8" steel for it.
I still need to add a centre support bearing for the small roller that runs around the outside, but appart from that, it works well :bounce:

YES, I have some Valances to make for a Dictator 6 which is a '28 Studiebaker.
Then I have some F1 running boards to do(actually possibly 2 sets now) a pickup bed & then the running boards for the shop truck (& what ever else comes in)

am I reading this correctly that it is essentially a bending brake, that does a radius bend?

Slip the metal under the X diameter roll and pull the handle up to curve the metal over it?

Any way to get more pictures of the mechanism itself? This might save me from having to try building a slip roller.

Managed a little time today to re visit the centre support roller. It is proving a little troublsome, but I reckon I know how I'm going to sort it.
I will take some extra pics when I get the mod done.

I managed to do an upgrade on the roller today, so I also took some pics for you. Just on my phone, so some aren't real clear.

This shows the pivots for the rollers.

This shows how I made the removable bush which has a pin in the midle for the different size rolls.

This is the storage rack of different size rollers. as explained earlier, an 8" one is still to come.

To raise the main pivot points, I just turn this (one each side) until the can slip the pin in for which ever size radi I require.

Then raise the pivoting roller which runs around the out side of the sheet buy turning these (again, one each side)

Then raise the new addition, the centre rollers which support the outer roller.
You'll also noitice in the previous pic I strengthened the support arm.

Dude, I've been thinking about building something very similar to this, but after seeing how you did it, and combining it with my idea, i'm gonna build it. Just need to make the space for it...hehehe. Part of my idea is to use a lathe to cut some cone shaped rollers to make my own Lakes style headers. Basically so that just after you finish the bend, and the metal is wrapped around the cone, then you can tig a few spots on it so it holds it's shape, then pull it off with a quick release coupling on one end of the roller.

Now thats a bit different :headscrat
A slip roller is good for cones, but the rollers are a little large for that kind size of thing, though they are 2"
How are you going to make it work? Roll a bit then slip it around and roll some more intil you get a cone ?
Your rollers would have to roll around a taper & that would be a bit of a pain to nut out.

The top roll that is the clamp would still be the clamp, but the lower roller, would turn as you pull the brake up to form the bend. I saw one down this way for this purpose, and it worked great. Having the lower roller so it will turn takes the stress off of the upper roller as it makes the bend. The one I saw was only 30 inches wide.

So the lower roller is on an angle then?
Same priciple as mine.

Yeah, the lower roller actually pivots on a machined groove. It will be a big project to get it right, but when it is....well, you know!
