Hey guys first post here.I'm looking at buying a new tool chest.I will be receiving my safety bonus from work in a few and wanting to put it towards a new tool chest for home use.I'm torn between the Harbor freight US General box and the Husky 52" top and bottom chest.I'm leaning more towards the Husky due to the fact I like drawer layout like the cubby in the top box.But I like the HF chest because the bottom box has the same amount of drawers.I also like the fact that I could get the add on boxes for the HF chest.

I know everyone knows what the HF chest looks like but here is a link to the Husky chest I have in mind

I like the Harbor Freight boxes better. Check out the Viper tool boxes at Sears. They are really nice too.

You should go to HD and open the drawers of the box you posted. take your hand and push down gently on the bottom of the drawer. you will discover just how thin the metal they use is. try the same test on the HF box , you will see the difference in metal gauge.

The fact that you can add on to the HF box is a good thing ( I have the 7 drawer side cab and the tall side locker- really nice units ) you will need them as your tool collection grows. trust me- if you hang around GJ a lot you WILL be buying more tools LOL.

I'm going tomorrow to check both boxes out. After reading the post MVrM linked me to I think the Husky will be off the list. The HF chest looks like a quality box for a reasonable price. As far as buying more tools go I have always been a tool but. Can't ever have to many in my opinion.I have got tools stashed just about every where I can put them that's why I am wanting to get a tool chest so I can get my stuff organized.

The HF is way better built. I was making the same decision you are and went with the HF and have never regretted it. I've filled it up, moved it, changed the drawers around, moved it, rearranged it, moved it, blah blah blah. Only thing I wish was that I had the 72" instead of the 44"

The HF 44" is a better box as you can add on in the future if Ned arises for more tool storage... I always need more storage...

Who's Ned.:lol_hitti

The US General box is pretty decent. Mine has held up to daily use rolling around a shop for 3 years or more. Two years of that was over a bumpy floor, full of small rocks and debris most of the time. It's loaded heavy too.

I already have a tool cart.I need the tool chest for more storage.I was thinking maybe going with the HF chest and two of the 7 drawer side cabinets and then putting a work top on it.Then I would have a workbench as well.

And yes this place is not very much help for my tool addiction.Good thing is tools are easy to hide as I add more to my collection.

Went to Home Depot and checked out the Husky tool chests this morning.I must say I am truely disappointed in the quality of them.Drawers are flimsy and can be flexed and the bottoms of the drawers don't seem like they would support much weight without saging. The drawer slides are very stiff and don't slide easy at all.I would hate to see what they would be like loaded up with tools. The Husky is off of my list and looks like since the HF box has so many good reviews that's the one I will go with.

The good news is I picked up a few new Milwaukee M12 toys while I was there.
