Watching jimthecarguy on YouTube, I notice he uses a Snap-on FHLF80 for everything. And if that's not enough, I notice ericthecarguy and South Main Auto using a Snap-on FHLF936 for everything whenever they're not using air tools. Just a reminder, the FHLF936 and the FHLF80 are both the same ratchet except for the tooth count. Just an interesting observation.....

I use to use the Gearwrench version (long handle 3/8" flex head) about 95% of the time before I got the tool sickness.

If I had to, I don't think I'd have any problem going back to it.

I have a set of 30 tooth 3/8 ratchets and the long handle flex head is my go to. The extra leverage and flex head just work better for me. South Main Auto is my favorite YouTube guy, his shop is like the one I worked at in college.

I usually start with a regular ratchet. But yes I can see how you can use the flex all the time.. I am clumsy and make the flex flop when using extensions, so I only use flex when needed.

I don't have a good feel for the long handle ratchet for torque since I used to a regular ratchet.

I do use FLF80 for breaking loose tight bolts

My most used ratchet is a Craftsman RP 3/8, followed by a Craftsman 3/8 RP flex head.

I don't even own a 1/4" ratchet !

I have my favorites as well. My preferred 3/8 ratchet is actually a very nice husky round head, next would be my gearwrench 72t.

I logged a lot of billable time using a 3/8 Craftsman flex years ago. I don't even look at it anymore. my gotos have been the Williams and wright rats for the last 10yrs or so. HF flex gets some usage at times as well.

As a "One must use only one ratchet"...

I'd have to vote for a GearWrench 3/8" drive Flex Head Ratchet GW#81215P...

My Wife bought me mine in the 4 pc set (pictured)...

I could easily see someone only using that ratchet, it is my go to when I need anything more then 1/4"

Absolutely, that ratchet is a beast. I prefer the slightly shorter FHX80 with the locking head though, but they are extremely similar. I like it so much I have one at work and one at home, same with the long locking 1/4" 80 tooth ratchet from SO.

I would say one ratchet for most things. I routinely us a 9 inch or so 90 tooth 3/8 drive flex head ratchet with comfort grip for most tasks. Although I have many ratchets to choose from, I find myself coming back to the Carlyle.:dunno:

If I only had one ratchet, I'd probably use a slightly longer than standard handle dual 80. The flex works against swivels and extensions, most situations I use flex in wouldn't require it if I had the right socket and extension combo.

My FL80 tend to be my most used followed be a T72 And then all the specialties like flex, stuby, composite, ect come into play. I'd say my least used is my SL80 :dunno: with all of my air and cordless tools I find my 1/2 chrome stuff is getting used less and less

Armstrong maxx locking flex in 3/8, followed by a gearwrench 1/4 roto head with a soft grip. Plenty of other choices, but those two see the most use.

I guess I'll chime in and maybe the "introduce yourself" paragraph that pops up every time i sign in will vanish ?
My go to is an FF80 but I'm considering taking a try at a Wright 3427. Does anyone actually own both to compare the two ?
I have some smaller Wrights I like very much (3440 and 3430). If the 3427 is as smooth as those small ones I'd like to own it. If not I'll put it back in the box and unload it.I have plenty of long and extra long(12-17-18-24) ratchets but generally prefer a standard length like the FF80 as a grab first. It sits on the cart with a breaker bar and a couple of extensions and I seldom open the ratchet drawer on the main box.

I know guys that use long flex heads for everything but I'm not one of them. I don't like flex head ratchets unless I actually need the flex, I find it just makes everything more awkward otherwise. I probably use an FL80 more than anything else.

For me it would probably be a 1/4" roto ratchet followed by a 3/8 flex? The problem I find with many 3/8" flex ratchets is the handle is quite long, same with most 3/8 rotos. I could probably count on two hands the number of times a year I use a 1/2" drive ratchet. Impact or breaker bar at that point.

I have 2 go to ratchets. For 1/4 drive my soft grip SO is my fave. 3/8 I use a quick release soft grip that is the berries.

Personally own 9 ratchets, 3 of them gets used the most

Would rather have less and use them all instead of having a 100 and not use them, kinda like the screwdriver thread also

My SO dual 80 comfort grip long flex is m go to, I find it very fast to break it loose then flip the handle all the way up and spin it out.
