I need a crimper that can crimp cat5 and phone cable, I looked at both the Klein and Ideal ones and they are Taiwan. I want a US made one if possible. I am willing to settle for Canadian, European, or Japanese if ONLY no USA made ones are available.

I tried locating one and cannot find a USA made one.

I do not care about Taiwan quality and how it is good, your wasting your time. It is more than quality.

Price is not a issue if I support US jobs and manufacturing. Those look like really good crimpers, I am going to send a email out to verify they are made here before ordering.

Thank you.

If you are going to spend the money, get one with changeable dies, RJ11 (4 position) and RJ45 (8 position).

I know this isn't what you asked but there shouldn't be much cause for the average guy to use a CAT 5/6 crimper. Pre-made cables today are so cheap and well made that it's really hard to beat them. And if you are planning to crimp long cables you are most likely doing it wrong. For longer runs you should be buying a punch down tool to terminate your cable with keystone jacks rather than a crimper.

If you already know this I apologize for intruding on your thread but many people don't know the correct way to do their own network wiring.

Good information, no apologies needed.

The company above verified that the tools are USA made, not assembled. Price for the crimper is roughly 335 btw for anyone interested. I ordered one with different dies.

I have Ideal, which I like. Mine are USA made, but they're quite some years old. Look around, you may find some USA's that are NOS

I have top quality crimpers and plugs, but I gave up making my own because pre-made ones are so cheap !

Yep. I've got a decent crimper in a drawer somewhere and a spool of CAT 6 with about 200 feet left on it. But I haven't made my own patch cable for years. Just isn't worth my time when good cables are so cheap. And the factory made ones have strain relief built in on both ends. The factory made cables usually are much more flexible as well since they use stranded wire and insulation that isn't as stiff as the stuff rated for you walls.

I think the last cable I built was actually a crossover so I could direct wire two computers together. I have a box full of patch cables but I tossed a bunch I had crimped myself into the trash a while back.

So, again for anyone out there wondering, patch cables should only be used to go from a keystone to your computer, or whatever device you're connecting. If you want to run network/voice cables through the attic, walls, or between rooms, you should be looking at a punchdown tool, keystones and low voltage gang boxes. Many punchdown tools come with a 110 blade for network and a 66 for voice.

I have 2 Ideal ratcheting crimpmasters with interchangeable dies. I think one is old enough that it was US made but I'm not sure. I try not to crimp plugs unless I absolutely have to!

I have several. The Klein tool (model VDV226-110) I have is for plugs that the wires go through the plug where you can verify the color code is correct before you crimp and then the crimp tool cuts the wires off as it crimps. I got it at HD and It makes it very easy to terminate cables. I agree that pre-made is the way to go unless you need a custom cable. LeGrand makes a crimper (Model OM-Q) that punches down and cuts all 8 wires at one time using their ends. Works great compared to punch down tool and having to do 8 punch downs at each end. I found the LeGrand tool at an electrical supply house with good availability of ends for them. The CAT5 ends are half the price of CAT6 ends but not any visible difference.

I use an Ideal ADED, works fine. Wore one out, liked it so much I got another just like it. Couldn't tell you where they were made. The first - 20-30 years ago or so?? Looks just like the second.

Guys, this thread has been dead for three years, and was just brought back by someone looking to skirt the classified rules and sell something on his first post.
