Hello everyone. I just signed up to the forum and thought I'd make this my first post. Been looking on the forum for a long time now and it has definitely put a dent in my wallet but my tool collection sure does look better thus far. Anyways here's today's haul. The local Mac dealer had a booth set up at the swap meet this year at Crusin the Coast in Biloxi, ms. Of course I couldn't leave empty handed. Got all of this for $85. 21 oz dead blow, 29 piece magnetic screwdriver bit set, 1/4 inch flex driver and a 10pc precision torque stubby ratcheting wrench set.

On sale because it's discontinued, making way for the new version. Spyderco Gayle Bradley 1. The new version looks a little to plain for my tastes, so I grabbed an original while I still could.

I got a handshake deal on this little sweetheart @ flee market today. It has a craftsman motor on it and the crescent shaped row of dimples on the table, but for $75.00 I think I'll do ok!

Harbor Freight visit last night. Ran in to take a look, they were having a clearance sale, and picked up the new 1/4 composite ratchet, fuses, brush set, and the free scissors (not shown). Ratchet was about $10 after coupon...

Gotta love that HF free stuff. Free is good no matter where it comes from.

You're not going to use those fuses in your own car are you?

GM published a bulletin awhile back about foreign made fuses not working as designed and causing damage. Could be their way of getting techs to only use GM fuses but, we had a couple of foreign made fuses not work as they should so, we only use quality BUSS fuses from Mexico now and skip PRC made fuses.
I wouldn't want to depend on a Harbor freight fuse but, that's just me.

I know Chinese low profile mini fuses are one time use. Try to remove them and most of them come apart.

I think like that sometimes but then I realize, they're probably identical to the fuses you buy in any other nationwide store (Autozone, Walmart, etc). It's one thing for tools because there are many manufacturers but how many actual OEMs are there for fuses or hose clamps or things like that?

For Vacuum Tubes for audio and Guitar I think there's only one factory (Sovtek) left in the world making them. It's somewhere in the former Soviet Union and they make every modern brand on the market. They just test them all and the ones that test best are sold as premium brands, the ones that test worse or have more variance get sold as the cheaper brands. Pretty much regardless what brand of tube you buy, if it's new it came out of one single factory in the world. I might be wrong about this though and maybe new factories have opened or there's some ultra exotic brand out there hand making them still.

Granted, a lot of people buy NOS tubes but those are obviously a non renewable resource.

Possibly the power supply was current limiting to protect itself in a short condition.

The supply had a knob for adjusting current, probably took 2-3 seconds to reach the full 75a from 0. The Bussman 10a fuses would consistently blow by the time I hit about 20a on the meter.

Thanks for all the concern about the fuses, I'll see how they do...

Edit: holy ****, just googled it. I'll toss these and pick up some Bussmanns ASAP

I bought a few things today at HF. They were things I might have found handy on recent projects, but I may never have a need for them again.

$20. If I ever need to sandblast something small.

$15. Hose clamps if I ever need to plug something during removal.

$15. Hose Grip Pliers. I hate trying to get hoses detached. Maybe these will help one day.

And these because I am addicted to channel locks and while my Klein's are nice, they don't match!

Another on the bandwagon for the 2 pc Blackhawk USA long reach plier set off eBay for $30 shipped. Someone posted it here I forget who, but thanks. Initial impressions are I like the grips, joint very solid, made in USA. They flex which all long needle nose pliers do, and one negative the handle portion forward of the grip is sharp enough to slice a finger open on the 45 degree set. A quick deburring and it will be fine. Still think it's a good value.

What I was getting at is: who makes Bussman's fuses? Do they make their own? Do they also make other people's? Maybe the harbor freight fuses are made on old equipment from a Bussman plant or even made by Bussman themselves with cheaper materials.

My example with the tubes is that if you go to Guitar Center for tubes there are a bunch of brands, Sovtek, GrooveTubes, Fender, Svetlana, Electro Harmonix. Yet, they're all made in the same factory on the same line and branded differently.

While it is possible that they were both made by Bussman or there equipment. I truly doubt it. I think that there is differences in the quality. I have bought both and have since returned the HF variant

I could be wrong but Bussman doesn't, to my knowledge, source from China. I've seen automotive Bussman fuses from USA, Mexico, Japan, other applications even from India and Taiwan, never China.

Tubes is a niche market these days and not a good example. Im sure there are multiple places in China making fuses. Its a big country, a lot of manufacturing overlap for many products especially to meet a high demand item like fuses.
