Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

I bought a similar Craftsman kit in 2007. Still have it today. Stepped up to the Li-ion batteries is the best thing I've done. All works great except the mini skil saw smells like it's burned now.

+1 The lipo battery pack transforms the tools

Do people like the compact Li-ion batteries or should you go with the full size? I have 4 or 5 Nicads that are just plain done. Ace hardware had a drill driver set with 2 compact Li-ion batteries and charger for $79. Considering the price of battery alone, seemed like a decent deal although I don't need the drill driver. Anyway I bought because it's the last day of the sale.

The smaller lipo are good for saving weight and tight spaces. The larger lipo is Great for the large tools, I use mine for my 1/2 Impact wrench - lots of torque.

Thats a lot of tools for the money. Ive owned the craftsman C3 1/4" impact and drill for about a year now. They havent let me down - and Ive gotten a good amount of work done with them. The drill is cheap - the chuck kind of wobbles. The impact, when using at a slow speed for delicate things, rotates slow/fast/slow/fast kind of unevenly. Its annoying in that way. Theyll get it done for less money for sure. Next go round though? Makita all the way.

If you can get the XCP battery. I just have one large XCP battery to power all my C3 tools: inflator, blower, trimmer, radio, hedge trimmer. Make sure to get the inflator...I may finally get an add-on drill soon.

Read varying reviews on the blower on craftsman.com. What's your personal experience? Also read that the inflators is great, but that the chuck is junk and that you have to replace it with an aftermarket. Cheap enough fix. Even so, the inflator is on my list of tools to get. If that thing works well, I don't see myself using my compressor much anymore.

Cordless inflators might be useful some situations(?) but at home I use a CM branded electric air inflator which is relatively fast and keep a 12v inflator in the trunk while on the road. 12v is slow enough and I expect cordless performance to be a slower draining experience

Hi Coleman

The inflator is great. I havent thought about replacing the chuck - the only flaw is a weaker grip on a bike tire valve, so I can see where people are coming from. The other attachments are fine and its nice having the portability. The XCP battery makes it especially reliable and powerful.

I used to think that the blower was awesome. It is still good, but you really have to have at least the Li batteries or in my case, the huge XCP battery. The Nicads will drain real fast.

The blower used to be my primary blowing tool, but I just purchased a Greenworks 80V - got that big boy through an Amazon returns auction for only $70 (reg. 200 - lucky me). Theres no comparison. The 80V tool is considered professional grade.

The greenworks is a jet and theres even a video of someone using it to propel him on a skateboard. Im not complaining about the C3 blower - the Greenworks 80V is just in another category.

I will still use the C3 blower but now for lighter use. It does make a buzzing noise but only because I dropped it and it hit the floor pretty hard. My fault.

At least you have the option now...BTW how do you like the new light that comes with your set? That is a new light and does not look like it is sold individually yet. Probably will be released Black Friday - I wouldnt be surprised.

Have fun!

Great info! The light is great. It will definitely come in handy for working under the sink. It sure beats a maglight standing on end. Plus, it's one more light to have around during a storm if the power goes out. Yeah, I noticed that they weren't selling the light separately and I didn't want the fluorescent light. That was another plus for going with the kit.

As for the blower, it would only be for light use. I don't have a bunch of leaves on the property so this would only be for blowing off the walkway after doing some landscaping, blowing out the garage, or getting some some sawdust off the driveway. I bet it's perfectly fine for that. My big problem with the blower is that they only sell it as a kit with a battery and charger and it costs double the bucks than the blower alone. That's a waste of money for me, especially since I'm going the XCP route and already have a charger. Not sure why the blower alone is not available. Perhaps they're coming out with a new model. I'm in no rush and I still have the ol' push broom in the meantime. On the other hand, perhaps they're discontinuing it.

Hey Coleman

Heres a pic of the 19.2 blower for a size comparison with my new 80V Greenworks. I also included a 19.2 blower pic for size comparison with a human being. :rocker:

Both blowers do the job nicely. Greenworks is a little overkill and lucky it has 3 speeds because it can actually do some damage to landscaping if on full power all the time.

I also forgot to mention the 19.2 shop vac - great to clean up dust in corners and the workbench. Comes with plenty of attachments. Good power with XCP. Otherwise I use my Rigid.

You can also see my 19.2 LED light. The head pivots to some strange angles so you have to position it...not really a problem though. Brightness is pretty good...there may be better flashlights out there but the selling point is the compatible battery power....

I cant wait to see the new light - my dad has an XCP battery too and it may be a good xmas gift for him...

Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

Stopped in the Sears by my job today and asked the sales associate about the blower without the battery and charger and he said that they haven't had those in the store yet and if it says that it's temporarily unavailable online that the product will be coming out in the near future. Cool. Also saw the inflator and, yep, cheap chuck. Feels like pot metal. I can see why people are replacing them, but like I said, it's a cheap fix and wouldn't stop me from buying it. Also saw the smaller radio, which actually is a decent size. I could easily find a place for that on the workbench since it has a small footprint. All good stuff.

In case you haven't see a decent picture of the light, here it is. It has a pretty good range of rotation.

Yeah the vac is good. Once again, XCP makes it a different machine.

Im glad they re-designed the radio too. I have the original small radio and it is great although the antenna ***** and is weaker than a twig. In fact I ordered a better replacement antenna through amazon - on its way.

Glad to see other Craftsman/C3 people out there. Craftsman and Sears gets too much bad press.

Nice light. I think I will get it for my dad for xmas if it comes out anytime soon.

About the chuck...any threads to read about replacing and/or recommendations for a better one? Come to think about it, it really was difficult to fit that thing on the bike valve - it kept slipping off and I had to resort to the old school floor pump.

Okay, you guys have convinced me on the shop vac. I was actually thinking of getting the wall mounted vacuum and getting a longer hose to use for the cars (will still probably get the wall mounted vac for wood work dust collection), but the C3 makes more sense. What filters do you have to use with that?

So, on the list so far: shop vac, inflator, blower, and radio. It's a good thing the holidays are coming up!

Anybody have any experience with the jigsaw?

I happened to see online that they used to offer a C3 paint sprayer. I think that would have been cool for some smaller projects. I guess the demand wasn't there.

I agree, matty, there is nothing wrong with the C3 line and I love using the tools. I think they're the best bang for the buck out there and have no hesitation to buy more.

I read through the comments on craftsman.com and Amazon. Here are a few.
=====
I ended up ordering a replacement pump hose "Topeak Twinhead Bicycle Floor Pump Upgrade Kit" (About $25) and replacing the hose and chuck altogether. Swapping hoses, I did have to shave down the lip on the red plastic piece that hose inserts in. But it works perfect, and the Topeak also has a little longer hose.
=======
Here is a quick and inexpensive fix for the problem. I bought a ($7) good quality 1/4 locking brass air chuck from a local hardware store. Also a brass 1/4 hose adapter ($1.50). Cut the old air chuck off right at the crimped fitting. Press on the hose adapter and put a small hose clamp ($1.50) over it to be extra careful. Then screw the new brass air chuck on and tighten. Works great. Faster inflation, no air leaks.
========
I took a shot and ordered a Universal Head Bicycle Replacement Floor Pump Hose for less than ten bucks made for a bike pump and it attached fairly easily. I now have quality universal (presta/schraeder) chuck and a hose that's twice as long. I use this regularly both for my bikes and cars.

Just bought the C3 shop vac online today. Had some bonus points and with a discount cost me 90 cents out of pocket. Hard to beat that. Will have to wait until later to get an xcp battery, but hopefully it'll work fine off the regular lithium battery, just not as long.

XCP batteries are currently discounted. Picked up a high capacity pack today for $50 (less than the compact pack) and somehow got $20 back in points in the same transaction. Will probably put that toward the inflator next.

Was $69 less a SYW coupon. Even without the coupon, I think it's a good price. I've been watching the batteries and they haven't dropped below $95 in some time.

And just in case this isn't known (I'm sure it must be), if you want your C3 tools to display the battery charge level through the C3 logo, use a pair of needle nose pliers and peel off the aluminum tape that covers the two C3 logos on the inside of the tool handle.

Forgot to say that this is only with XCP batteries. Those have the charge indicator on the battery stem.

Picked up the spiral saw today for 20 bucks off CL. Missing the handle and a collet, but easy enough to get from Sears parts. Not a bad deal since I've seen them selling recently on eBay for 90 and 120. I have no real use for it at the moment, but I can see some possibilities later on.

I'm a huge fan of the Craftsman C3 line - it's worked very well for me. As has been stated before, get the XCP battery and you won't be sorry.

I know that they haven't made these in a while, but I got the C3 caulk gun from someone on Craigslist over the summer. The guy only wanted $15 for it. It worked very well and totally worth the money. If you happen to see any for sale, go ahead and pick one up - not a necessity by any means, but cool to have...lol

Cool. Good to know. That would have come in handy when I replaced all the baseboards and door casings in my house. I'm also very happy with the line. No complaints about anything I've used so far.

I've been very happy with my C3 tools.
I got a set for fathers day about 8 years ago, and have added steadily ever since.
The 1/2" impact is a godsend at the wrecking yard.
The 1/4" impact drivers are fantastic, the drills all work well, and I recently picked up a whole box of tools for $80-brad nailer, radio, hand vac, blower, 1/4" impact, 3/8" drill, 2 fluorescent lights, another circular saw and a handful of batteries.
I have 2 full size and 2 compact Li-ion batteries transformed these from useful to incredible.

Perhaps at this point we should get a moderator to change the title to "Craftsman 19.2v C3 Fans". I didn't see another thread like that and this thread had morphed away from the original purpose.

Yeah, hopefully they'll release it separately soon. No reason not to. It's a great, little light.

I don't think the new radios have any weather bands. Better check before you pull the trigger on one. Pretty sure only the old style radio picks up weather bands.

Matty, can you post the link for the replacement antenna you got for your old style radio? I may want to get an old radio specifically for the weather. Couldn't hurt.

I have what I think is the new AM/FM C3 radio. Charges both Li-Ion and Ni-Cad batteries, has a powered USB port that will charge your phone, supports Blue-Tooth so you can play music from your smartphone, has nice little platform for your smart phone under the carrying handle, and AM-FM presets. All my cordless tools are C3 (except for a CM NexTec cordless hammer) and I'm happy with them.

But NO weather radio ... which I think is STUPID.

All radios sold today (cars, portable, etc.) should have the weather radio channels built in and give the operator of the radio to have a constant scan of weather radio for alerts. What would it cost to build that feature in? $5?

At first I didn't like the C3 radio. Finishing my shop. The only outlet was next to the main panel in the shop which is next to a huge transfer switch so we can plug the generator into the house and shop. Plugged it in, radio was fine on FM, but "buzzed and hummed" when I listened to talk radio on AM. If I plugged a C3 battery in, unplugged from outlet, took the radio 10' or so away from the panel and transfer switch ... buzz and hum went away.

Then I put my phone in its cradle and plugged it into the USB port to charge. Phone created interference whether it was plugged in or no. Removed the phone from the cradle, interference went away.

Nice little radio, fills the 1000sf shop with 10' ceilings nicely with sound. Lots of nice functionality. BUT Sears/Craftsman fell a bit short in my opinion.
