Figured I would post the family potrait... My Reed 105 that I love and my little Wilton 825 I didn't think to throw the matching pow r arm to the Wilton in the picture. Thinking about selling that pair anyways though. The Reed is just mounted to the wood bench for now but I have some big fender washers displacing the load.

Is this a good deal. A guy local has it and would sell it to me for $50
It's a 9300 and he said the front foot on the swivel base is broken off and the jaws are shot
I would t plan on keeping the swivel vise anyways.

No stay away. I looked at that vise last time I was in that state and there is a crack all the way down the back. That is a parts vise. It has been online for a while. you can see the crack in the picture. You are better off finding a good clean one for $100 than this crappy one regardless the price. Just my 2 Cents worth.

Now if you want a deal look in the same state for a 6" Parker for $175. If I had time last time I was out there I was going to buy it

TO ALL: I watched an entertaining video on You Tube yesterday. There was a brief segment that showed an Emmert Machinist Vise in use. I'd like to tell everyone how they could watch it too. I've never seen a recommendation of this kind on this thread before. Does it violate some kind of taboo? I don't get a kickback from him or from anyone. I just enjoyed watching and thought others would too.

TJ: so 500 plus pounds for 2 vises isn't a record, but not many of the vise guys can match or beat that. do you have a couple pictures of yours to post?

Drives: Probably not exactly what you were looking for, but both are apart right now so tough to get full unit photos. The C3 should be finished fairly soon, still a bit of a road ahead to get the P98 100% (including stand). Keeping the P98 and most likely selling the C3.

CRS: include the link to the youtube video if you liked it. do we need to subscribe or pay anything to watch it? i've posted a few youtube links on the thread and somebody made 4 youtube videos of the vises of garage journal a couple years ago that was about an hour each video if you have some time. i think that the 4 hours of video only covered the first 600 pages of this thread and look where we are now.

90: i didn't see the crack in the Wilton, but if Joe saw the vise in person and says he saw it i'll have to agree since he buys more vises than most of us lately. also the jaws were either pretty beat up or maybe even replaced with aluminum ones. i'd also agree if the 6 inch Parker for $175 is in great shape i'd buy it and find a big bench or make a stand for it.

TJ: better than no picture and OMG that is a lot of weight for a couple vises. i just moved 2 of my 577's out of storage and into my garage and almost out of breath from those two. good luck on the restorations and i like your thinking about which one to keep.

mbsinmich and I were at the guy's door at first light this morning. Didn't want to take a chance that someone would beat us to this $20 bargain.

TO ANYONE INTERESTED IS SEEING AN EMMERT MACHINIST VISE IN USE: No subscription necessary. Go to You Tube and search for mrpete222 blacksmith. You’ll find a three part video labeled tubalcain ROAD TRIP to a BLACKSMITH SHOP pts. 1, 2, and 3. Part 3 has a brief segment where the blacksmith named Robert Bergman shows Lyle an Emmert Univeral Machinist vise. Actually, the other two parts are more entertaining but the camera never lingers on the vises around the shop.
If you haven’t heard of mrpete222 or tubalcain or Lyle Peterson let me tell you that they are all the same person. Lyle Peterson has put up hundreds of machine shop related videos on You Tube. Search for mrpete222 machine shop tips. Some of you might find them too basic but I think most of you will enjoy watching. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell he only owns 3 or 4 vises although one of them is an Emmert Pattern vise. One caveat though: If you watch all the videos you’ll hear more about tapping and threading than you ever thought possible.

How about posting a link to the video?

Tubalcain is the man! I love watching his videos. I'm already subscribed to his channel. Just haven't had time to watch YouTube lately.

McBrownie: I'm not exactly an early bird. I've simply learned to make use of insomnia.

Fretters: Thanks. It was pleasant taking an early morning drive with my brother - and getting a bargain.

Top: Very nice job on those vises. I started liking the color once my eyes stopped smarting. I never thought about using vises as centerpieces. The holidays are coming up, hmmm.

bagged: Howdy! Maybe if you didn't polish quite so much you'd have more time to watch the You Tubes. Terrific finish!

Bagged: WOW

TOP: You might know that i don't like painting vises, but TJ and now you have me thinking i'll need to paint at least one of mine that bright green. nice job and do tell the color and can you post a picture of the paint can. brush or spray paint or custom out of an air gun?

CRS & MBS: so when you both go to a sale that has a vise you like how do you determine who gets it? I think we need more pictures of the swivel jaw Columbian you didn't pay too much for. taking turns or do only one of you have the vise for vices?

Lug: thanks for the link and the great post on straightening a bent bolt. would adding heat to the fix help?

drives: More pictures of the swivel jaw will indeed follow. I just came in from 3 hours of lightly dusting it and I found a serious but not fatal issue. More later. As far as who gets the vise when we both go to a sale - I am, and always have been, the older brother. mbs and I do share a sense of humor, though. He has it today. Gotta dash now TTFN.

That's a sweet looking sweetheart. (I can see the logo on the back of the slide)
I have 1-1/2" Stanley #741 w/ the sweetheart logo, but mine has the winged thumbscrew instead of the slide bar.

Here's some info that Outlaw had to offer when I first posted it.
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4019542#post4019542

Here's a pic of it restored in Kona Brown paint (that was the closest rattle can I could find for the original color on mine)

Would anyone know if a Wilton bullet vise model #600 will fit on the swivel base of a Wilton bullet model#500 ?

Pictures of the little clamp ons reminded me of one I got a month or so ago. It is an Athol 703 2" wide jaw. It is the smallest rachet handle one I have seen.
I have a Stanley 741 with "Stanley" cast in the side. I would guess it is a later model but it also has the Sweetheart logo on the top of the slide.

Bagged are those jaws new or did you block them down to remove the pits? I Polish alot of stainless at work round parts can be very hard to get a shine on with out distortion and flats . I usually use a block or file angle grinder wet sand then 3 buff wheels.
