Not a whole lot of information other than it's 75 teeth and full polished. They're unavailable in my area. Perhaps it's a refreshed thin profile ratchet :dunno:

Not available in my area...

I thought about the "Discontinued" Craftsman Premium Grade Ratchets...:D

But I decided on the GearWrench 4pc Flex Head Ratchet Set...:rocker::evil:

I'm a buyer - they look like a cross between the 84 tooth Premium USA Rachets introduced a few years ago and the current style teardrops.

I hope they are made well, would be great if USA made, but guessing Tawian.

Amazing how that font still makes me think of decent quality tools. I wish they'd just end it all.

Craftsman tools reminds of Harley Davidson (another classic American brand) in the late 70's / early 80's - with a strong dedicated following - being run for profits and being run into the ground.

Look at Harley Davidson today, stronger than ever because someone had the forsight to revive the brand - the right way.

The Craftsman Tool brand offers the same opportunity for a smart group of individuals to revive a Classic American Brand back to it's glory days for its dedicated followers.

It doesn't look like any of their Chinese ratchets, finishing is better and the switch looks more sturdy. Looks like a Taiwan ratchet, imo...Switch looks similar, though not the same, as the Taiwan Kobalt.

My local Sears closed a couple months ago, I'll probably never see one of these.

Which is too bad really. This is a nice looking tool.

With all of the other cheap Taiwan offerings, I really don't know what these bring to the table that others aren't doing already. If you like for your stuff to say "Craftsman", I guess these are something to get excited about.

Anyone able to see pricing, or are we all getting the "not available in your area" message?

I'm getting the not available message in Tampa, FL.

Interesting, I am curious to see what the mechanism is like. The head, selector and qr look awfully like the 36t rp. If this is a fine tooth version of the rp mechanism I wouldn't know if I
should be horrified or curious.

Sears used to sell heirlooms now they just sell junk. This ratchet is another fine example.

you mean ASSMAN, the license plate episode? love that one...:bounce:

on topic though, I would love to see craftsman revive the brand with quality Taiwan tools...if they would just go to HF's ratchet supplier and buy the same stuff branded Craftsman, like everyone else does, they would probably be in a better position. that ratchet does look nice though.

They will never make everyone happy. Go all USA? And price out most people who just want cheap tools. Go cheap tools? and people complain they aren't USA. They have to compete with harbor freight, Lowes. Home depot, gearwrench, etc. Who all offer cheap import tools. So sears now offers cheap Import tools. Yeah its not the craftsman we grew up with but its also not the world we grew up in. Things change but at least they are trying to change with the times. Even if its a few years late.

Not to wander off topic too much but, Craftsman for most people has been about the easy lifetime warranty and pennies on the piece set pricing. Both things are still available today. The thing that irks me about craftsman is instead of sticking to the basics and offering a selection of functional decently priced tools, they keep going the gimmick tool route. From the dogbone wrench, to that mach series of ****, to the latest extreme grip (aside from the ratchet and diamond tipped screwdrivers) they stack the shelves with often useless tools. Years ago I waited for the craftsman Christmas tool catalog to arrive so, I could drool over the new tools debuting. Now I look at the black Friday ad and laugh at whatever this year's fad tool is. :dunno:
End of rant. As for the new ratchet, I'd give it a shot in 1/4 and 3/8 drives on sale and if it feels good in the hand. Why not? this is garage journal where it's my duty to have as many different ratchets as possible:lol::beer:

I noticed the other day when I was a Sears that all the RP wrench sets were clearance. And all the new sets were the lobster claw full polish. The RP ratchet looks like it will be replaced with these new ones. Which is about time. All the other store brands have went to fine tooth ratchets in their sets and also only offer full polished wrenches. They are just falling in line with the rest.

I think the go all USA thing is just something people like to rant about, like vegan's who eat meat...everyone says they want to buy USA made, but the buying behavior says otherwise.

you hit the nail on the head though. Find where the most people buy their tools and compete there. that's going to be box stores, HF, etc. most people do not buy high end US made tools, unless you include the snap-on bling at costco:D

That's funny. The Snap-on branded work lights I bought at Costco were made in China. I'm not arguing your point, it just made me kinda chuckle.

And that is what has kill craftsman tools. Sears basically hasn't rasied priced in 25 years and people still ***** they are too expensive compared to brand X
Ya but that's another problem as well. Maybe they haven't raised the price, but they have sure lowered the quality. So I would think lower quality should equate to lower price.

+1. I just just that in another post. It would be a shame for it to go down and out. In 1981, HD was in a bad way from the AMF years. AMF btw made Craftsman snowblowers and was eventually bought out by Murray (now part of Briggs and Stratton).

In 1981 HD was in a bad way because of how HD had run HD in the 50-s and 60's. AMF saved HD.

AMF saved HD in '69 because some of the higher ups had a soft spot for the US company.

V. Beals was from AMF.

I made a post a while back about almost this same thing. Had Sears initially came out with this ratchet when the COO switch happened and made the wrenches full polish and got rid of everything raised panel and went the quality import route like this. Everything basically Gearwrench clones. Would people have been that upset ? If all the new Craftsman hard line tools were Gearwrench clones and quality with the Craftsman name would you still buy them? I own some Gearwrench stuff and it's pretty good and have had no issues. I said I would never buy an import craftsman tool. But if they are better tools than before I may. If they are indeed Gearwrench clones then it puts them at a better value than the other box store import tools. Would you buy a 120xp craftsman labeled ratchet? I would. Not saying that will happen but you get the idea. I guess I really don't have to worry about it because I have all the hard line tools I will ever need .
