The drywall crews I have had work for me, two different ones, were really fast. On one, a guy is inside the house yelling out numbers (measurements) and another guy was snapping off pieces on the front porch just as fast. They all fit perfectly as far as I could tell, my job was done, money exchanged and they were gone in a couple of hours.

Other one they didn't quite do that from the part where I was watching. They sort of got going slowly but once they were "making noise" driving screws it was really fast. I think they sort of measure and measure and measure and are planning in their head, and all of the sudden BOOM things start cutting and fitting.

Anyway, congrats on being finished, I think I started roughly around the time you did, no contractors involved though, and I'm just finishing my concrete and dirt work after 6mos. Learned a ton and I would not go back and do it the other way.

Kevin: good drywallers can do quite a bit of fine tuning in and hour for the finish coats. Looks great so far. Is you neighbor helping you hang cabinets and move things?

Good luck

I'll probably do all of that myself. That way I can go through the cabinets and clean them out some.

The drywallers were here at 7:00 on the nose this morning and are making good headway. The bumpout is getting it's third coat of mud this morning also. The bumpout should be finished tomorrow and ready for me to paint and put trim down.

I don't know what your weather is like, but we are having a cool spell. You might want to wait an extra day (or put some fans in the bump out) before you start painting.

The bumpout is in the heated portion of my garage, and I do have fans going in there to help dry things out good.

Congrats on construction being done on the bumpout, now it is just paint and fill. The addition will be done in due time and you'll soon forget about most of the troubles you had during construction. You'll have it set up soon and making chips fly.

If ratdoggy is going to spring for the pizzas, I'll bring the beer.

As usual Kevin, nice. I'm envious. And I'm with you on writing the check thing. Why not let those that do it for a profession do it. I used to do drywall for myself until I hired a real drywall crew. They are quick and it comes out better.

Did someone say there's a party at Kevin's place? Free pizza and beverages? When? We can all be jealous of his new addition. Good food, nice guys, and tools, sounds like a great time.

For a total of 11 hours, the drywall is up. Now all I have to do is WAIT  My drywall guy has two new houses that takes priority over my garage, and I understand that. He had those jobs before he had mine. But the drywall is up :rocker: I'm going to paint the bumpout this weekend, and I can get things loaded into there.

I did get the shelf made for my heater, but can't put it up until I get the mud work and painting done in the addition. But the wires for the heater (thermostat & power) are ran. I also had to order a propane conversion kit for it, and that should be coming the first of the week. Slowly getting there. I just hope the weather cooperates as far as the garage goes. I still need to put another coat of stain on the outside, but if it doesn't get done this year, it still has one coat of stain on it, and will get done next Spring.

Kevin: looking good. i like what you did to hide the old roof line that came into the new garage's space.

hope your neighbor can lend a little hand when hanging some of the heavy cabinets since you have a bad shoulder.

Sounds like you are going to have a great party too.

cheers

That section over the old roof looks really good. Better than I could have ever imagined. Very nice.

But you didn't tell us when the party starts.

Looks great Kevin. Did you consider "high lift" on the two garage doors? Only notice as I did mine a few weeks back. Great way to open up above the doors for loading/unloading and polishing the roof of a car without bumping your head.

No I didn't. For one, the way the rafters run (90 degrees to the garage doors) I probably couldn't have done it anyways. But, I can lift the wifes car up to full height, and my truck almost the same. I have a 9' tall lift, so the cable adjuster starts to get into the pulley if I get any higher. I'm 5'11" (gravity shortened me up) and I can stand underneath it comfortably. Someone 6'3" may have problems though.

All in all, I am very well satisfied with the lift, and for anyone with 10' flat ceilings, I think a person could get by, even though I have scissor trusses that gives me a few more inches headroom, which I would recommend.

I haven't checked in for a few weeks, I tried last night but I got distracted and logged out. I can't believe how far your garage has come in a short time. Definitely a really nice place taking shape and I hope you enjoy it Kevin.

Keep us informed on this garage warming party.

I think it's been taking a long time :dunno: I am getting the bumpout painted though so I can start moving stuff in there and get the main garage cleared out. I thought I'd have it done today, but it looks like it's going to me a 2nd shift ordeal. I should have it done in a little while though, then get the electric hooked up in there. Then I have to take my Gladiator cabinets down, remove the tracks, remount the tracks, then move y cabinets over into there, then get my benches up. Everything is going all white as far as the walls and ceilings. Not sure what to do with the main garage yet, whether to keep it maroon and black, or repaint things white, then paint my trim black.

Anyways, things will be done here in a few weeks, and if I don't like the color, I can always repaint to something different.

Nice progress! Good choice of hiring out the drywall work...... The effort required is hard to justify doing it your self.....

Got a little bit of work done today. I got part of my workbench put back up, and I got 9 cabinets moved. I still have 6 more cabinets to move and they will go on the blank wall with two rows of three, stacked on top of one another. Slowly gaining my main garage back. I have about another day of sorting and deciding what goes where in what cabinet. That will leave just three cabinets in the main garage.

Ssshhhhhhh!!!!!!

Just cleaning everything out of my main garage. Everything that gets stored goes into the bumpout. The only thing I'll have in the garage and addition is one roller that has all of my mechanics tools in it. All of my machinist tools are in the bumpout in their own roller, and is just a few steps from my machines. All of my woodworking stuff, hammers drill bits, spade bits, tape measures and items like that are in their own roller in the bumpout. The cabinets have rattlecans, shop towels, paint equipment and things like that.

I think you might have some lighting issues in the bump out Kevin. Your lights are going to be behind you when you're standing at the bench. I believe you might cast a shadow on what you're working on.

Just food for thought my friend.

Actually the light are directly above me when I stand at the bench. I just went in and checked after I read your reply. I may build one bench in the new addition though so I have something to set parts on, and also to have a place to bolt my vise down where it's handy. Not sure on that yet. :headscrat
