I think it's too late...vise fever has my head spinning. If I happen to drag the tiger back along, I will post pics for sure! Saw a pic of it and looks like it could be a 6" vise.

I'll let you deal with that misdemeanor ;)

:D :D

Anybody know the manufacturer of this vice?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rare-engineers-vice-/262102081000?hash=item3d06805de8:g:GHIAAOSwo6lWJU8C

Seller sounds like a nutter. I don't want to risk asking him questions about it

He's an unusual one that seller, isn't he. :D Seen a few bits listed by him in the past that I've been tempted by, but I've never bought owt from him simply due to his attitude.

Regarding the vice, it appears to have Spanish/Italian styling, along the lines of the Irimo's.

Oh ****! Quick, go look back at all of the warnings we have given to newbies, Riley in particular. It's a sickness, a disease! Run away fast while there's still time!!! Okay, having said that, I think you should go after that Tiger, but don't blame me. I warned you.

Tis true. I went 36 years without buying a vise. Bought one two weeks ago then another last weekend which I refreshed the next day. I find myself searching for vises throughout the day on Craigslist eBay etc.

I can assume I've been sucked in.

Mr P: Haven't heard from you for some time. Everything OK? Any new vises? Recovery coming along well?

I've been dabbling in aquiring Peterson vise grips a little, but yesterday I found myself a little 1960s Craftsman 5247-2 small vise yesterday for $20. Also got myself a nice old disc/belt sander which I have been tinkering with too. It was an interesting negotiation because I was able to negotiate the loading, offloading, and set-up thanks to still being on crutches.

A buddy of mine is making baby bullet bookends. I like em!

Also, my buddy with the Parker 958 told me his spindle handle cover nut is brass not steel. Anyone else seen this before.

Bookends? They should be in a muse... I mean on a bench!

Lineshaft, your unbranded Prentiss would be a model #23 if it was branded, and weighs in at 207 lbs..

How long have you been lurking and how long have you been collecting or speculating in vises.---Obviously you had the bug long before you found this site, as did many other fellows on here.

Welcome, and very nice iron.

Anyone have any pics/info on the Emmert tiger 47? When I google it, almost nothing comes up.

JW,---There is an Emmert on page 579, post 11565, and page 1366], post 27310, if you are still interested.---May help, may not.

Likewise, welcome to the forum.

Very badass bookends! What exactly is a spindle handle cover nut?

Yes but not brass, I've seen them in bronze. Boy wouldn't Baggs like to polish one of those.

Haha, yes sir

Here is a Parker with a bronze collar I did a while back. I just cleaned it good but no polishing.

I just got this very nice Stanley sweetheart vise but I cannot figure out how to remove the spindle. Anyone have a suggestion?

Went to see a guy who had a bunch of vises but everything too rich for me. And most were semi broken or missing pieces. The Parker 259x had the slide cracked and he wanted $500z the rigid 61 was missing pipe jaws and he wanted $400. A bunch Chicago era Wilton's but all abused and he wanted $300. Nice guy but wanted top dollar. He has warehouses full of stuff and you can barely get around.

I am a bit late, welcome Lineshaft. You have an interesting collection. Many of us are always looking for the big ones, 6", 8" & the odd 9". Pretty rare are the 7", many manufacturers did not make this size or very limited amounts if the did.

With your Athol "Halloween", the Rock Island Chipper, and the above Prentiss and Parker, I dare say you are the king of the 7" club.

Cheers and nice collection

Does "800 pennies" have a different meaning over there or are you Sir Suckworth-Suckington?

Nope, he truly does mean that he only paid a grand total of £8 for those. :D About $12, allowing for the current exchange rate, I believe.

Very nicely done Fraggles. :) Those all look like they've had an easy life too.
