I love the old Indestro/Duro/Wizard tools. Especially like their ratchets and sockets. Not long ago I found another ratchet and some wrenches. All was clean, but the ratchet was almost in perfect condition. Posted it up in classifieds. She's a beauty...

Left side, that's it with an Indestro extension.

I didn't even know there were reproductions . I never gave thought to anyone being foolish enough to counterfeit tools that aren't very expensive or rare.

Saw this at the pawnshop today. Guy was kind of a d%#k to me, said he would do $15. Is it worth it? I'm kind of a sucker for old tools and this is a complete set. Although I'm not sure how old it is.

I'm gonna guess late 70's. :dunno:
Don't know if it's worth it but if you buy it and in a few months you don't like it anymore it's just as easy to sell as it is to track another down .

Is it worth it? Yes. Do you want to give the guy $15? Your call.

I passed on what ordinarily would have been a good deal on Sunday because the guy was an ***, and used illogical pricing, and he pissed me off. (my prices were double what the guy in front of me was charged, because I wouldn't "buy the whole box" for a bit more. (remaining content was total trash) So I was expected to buy it all so I could throw it in my scrap bin... :dunno:

Its funny you should ask this question. I was just at a pawn shop today and as I was awaking in a clerk threw these wrenches in the bin. I took a good look and thought about them for a minute, but I don't need them so I passed. I was however, surprised to see a very sloppy finish on the tool itself, I assume due to the casting/forging. I concluded that the "Indestro Select" line of tools may not be as high end as some of the others? Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the problem area.

Only one for me lol bought a table saw a few weekends ago and he let me search the shop for other tools. This was all I found I could even possibly consider using.

Interesting to learn how anyone has data to prove tools are "counterfeit." Most of us on Garage Journal would expect that if someone would counterfeit a brand of tools, they would choose expensive name brands, such as Snap On, Mac, Cornwell, and Matco.

Counterfeiting Indestro tools would seem to me to be like counterfeiting small coins. You might get away with it, but profits would not justify the time, effort, and risk.

Personally, I doubt anyone would bother to counterfeit Indestro tools, but we may be able to ask the manufacturer if they are aware of any bogus tools wearing their trademarks?

Quite right, Lump; it would make no sense for anyone to even bother. It's not like Indestro tools have a huge demand and command high prices.

And the counterfeiting would have been very complete - right down to replicating the vintage boxes!

Genuine, of course.

Dear Lump, everyone
thanks for your opinion, but we have realize the different US vs Thailand. You could not compare in this case, because right now Thailand full with bogus every brand of Tools, those are made from China. The set of Indestro those I have shown, and sold in Thai market approximately &10 something, I think it none sense price, if I had that set I should be sell in e-bay, those will make high price, the stuff look very rough, etc hope you understand.
it may hard to prove for anybody has never seen counterfeit before, because in America haven't those
I know it is pretty difficult to accept, because you are in USA.!!!
finally, I still confident those set of indestro are Counterfeit!!!
you and anyone agree?

My humble 3/8" socket set.

I bought that set when I was in high school in 1964. Used it for 6 months and traded it in on an identical Snap on set. My dealer gave me 100% of my money in trade. And, yes, they were genuine Indestro. ;)

An ignition wrench set I've had for many years...I think i got it from my Great Grandpa. The pouch has been that way as long as I can remember.

I'll try to remember to take a better picture showing one of the wrenches out of the pouch.

Here's a full pic of one wrench.

Here's some more D/I I found hidden.

CRTDI, I'm not using my driver handle, and your set would be a much better home for it. (Even though the number doesn't match).
If you want it, just say so. I'll gladly give it to you.
Likewise, if someone could use the 3/8" breaker to complete a set, I'm not married to it. (I'm holding out for the correct Bonney breaker for my set).

Picked up this Indestro Super 3277 ratchet today just because it was so funky looking. It is 1/2 drive, 10.25" oal, 52 teeth feels like a single pawl I haven't taken it apart yet to verify. It appears this is where SK Tuff1 rats got their selectors from. I like KEEP CLEAN AND OIL forged into handle lol.

One of the weirdest things about this ratchet is when viewed from the side. The head including drive and selector is 1.5" long. Head is .75" thick. Handle is .5" thick by head tapering to .25" above handle. Handle is 7/16" thick.

Indestro super 953 body hammer. I cannot find anything on indestro body tools if anyone else knows something about them let me know.
I saved the original handle by pulling head off and re wedging, and also kept original steel wedges.

I'll make my contribution to this thread. I inherited this when my grandmother passed a couple of years ago. It belonged to my grandfather, who passed away back in the 80's. My father actually gave this set to my grandfather as a Christmas gift back when he was a boy. I am guessing sometime around the late 50's or early 60's. The hex driver and the associated sockets are not original to the set. The hex driver that is set out of the box is identified as a Dunlap. I believe the rest was a part of the original set. Unfortunately, there were wrenches in the set originally. I wish I knew where they ended up, but I don't have them.

Good evening, gentlemen.

New member here.
Former buyer/treasurer (retired) Tillicum Suppliers, Inc., Tacoma - Indestro Warehouse Distributor (factory-direct account) 1971-1988
Guy Wheaton was the factory sales representative. He lived in Walnut Creek, Ca.

We carried the "Indestro Super" brand.
I bought all my tools in 1973 at WD net + 10%. One of the better decisions I made in my youth.
I have full sets of 1/4" and 3/8" drive (up to 1"), but never imagined I'd ever need anything bigger, so I never bothered with 1/2" drive or any larger sockets.
I am presently trying to put together a better-quality 1/2" drive set, and have been availing myself to "EBay" to fill some holes.
I picked up a whole box of stuff earlier from a CL ad, in which are about half a dozen Indestro Super 1/2" drive 12-pt. shallow sockets.

There was a "Penens" 1/2" drive ratchet in that box too, a Google search for which led me to this site. Also a "PC" socket, which, if I read correctly, was made in Oregon (?).

I'm pretty familiar with the Indestro Super line and might be able to answer some questions.
I don't have any photographs of any of my tools at the moment - they're all in my toolboxes and I use them all on a regular basis. They're also all engraved with name, so they're hardly "collector" material now.

Again, I've been trying to fill some holes lately. Just received some nice NOS 1/4" drive 6-pt deep sockets from Ebay, and am awaiting delivery on a 8091A 1/4" drive (inch-pound) torque wrench and some double-end offset-head box wrenches.

To answer a couple questions I noticed skimming through this thread:
Yes, Indestro made all kinds of hammers. We didn't stock the body hammers. We only carried the ball-pein and claw hammers (with red fiberglass handles). I have one ball pein, and I believe my mother has one of their claw hammers.
Indestro "Select" was pretty much the same tool as "Super" on the sockets: "Super" had the knurled band, "Select" had the double plain band. On the wrenches "Super" was a nicer looking tool: all polished up with smooth-finished shanks.
Indestro manufactured private label for Western Auto under the "Wizard" label.
They also made stuff for a lot of other companies - like their pullers and pliers.
(As an aside, "Kastar Tool" made all kinds of stuff for other companies too. Kastar was another line we carried.)

If and when I can ever get around to making an inventory of what I have, I may see if I can fill some holes here from you guys. Sounds like some of you have pretty extensive collections.
I've got a couple real oddities that Indestro made that I might be able to take photos of and post here. (Anybody ever seen their #648 battery terminal lifter?)

I would never have imagined over 40 years ago that the tool line we were carrying (and that I inventoried and wrote purchase orders for) would be "collector" stuff today. Good stuff - have never broken a socket in 42 years, although I've snapped off more than my share of bolts.

It's late and I need to go cook dinner.

Cheers!
