Snap on hard handle blades discontinued?

So, today I called customer service for two new blades. Screwdrivers are sddp42 and sddp31.

They told me the blades are discontinued for these two.:shocking:

They offered to send me the replacement screwdrivers. Only catch is that I really don't like the instinct handle, and have no idea if they fit in my pallet in my platt case.

So does anyone know the differences between the hard handle blades compared to the instinct blades? Maybe I can just swap them?

Anyhow, thanks to snap on's customer service.

Say it ain't so! I have both of those, and the couple of instincts I have don't fit into my tray well.

I was surprised myself to learn that the radiator hose tool blades are no longer available, now they give u the whole tool. My dealer did have a hose tool blade but it is splined instead of two ears for the handle to grab.

I remember years ago Snap On announced that after extensive and exhaustive studys on the mechanics of the human hand it was determined that the four sided and textured hard handle was the optimum ergonomic fit.

Did the human hand suddenly change and now we need these crappy Instink handles? Why do we need three sided rubber ***** handles on screwdrivers now?

The blades should still be in production I swapped out my mid length flat over from my instinct I had at home the only difference I saw was the ears were at different spots but that does not affect me at all

Lmao...I hate 4 sided screwdrivers. I have a set of org. Harley snap ons I can't stand them. The current instincts are much better. Than again I grew up using round crapsman so going to square didn't go over well

I guess it's all in what you get used to. The first time I ever picked up an Instink screwdriver I wanted to spike it on the ground. I kept turning it in my hand waiting for it to get comfortable. Later on I even bought a couple Instink screwdrivers just to give them an honest fair shake and couldnt stand them.

x2. Rectangular hard handles ****. Most companies have gone to a 3 or 4 sided tapered composite handle and it absolute delivers more torque so its impossible to argue against the merits of the design.

As far as them being discontinued. I had thought they brought them back only for a limited run and that was years ago now.

I think you're right.
Lots of people like flex handle ratchets. I don't.
Roto for life.

I like smaller hard handle 4-sided driver handles. Larger, I prefer round, cushion grip.

Do you think the blades are no longer available because snap on switched production techniques making the new screwdrivers/hose picks not serviceable? :dunno: Snap on used to claim that by offering replacable blades the tool was a better value. I also hate the instinct handle

I always figured another reason for replaceable blades was so you don't end up with a non matching driver in your set when you need warranty. Tool companies change styles, colors, and features but you can keep what you're used to if the tool is repairable. A dealer can stock an assortment of blades and service all styles of drivers without having to always order a particular one. They can fix it on the spot.

I Don't warranty screwdrivers often at all, but I'll be pissed if I end up with a tri lobe rubber ***** handled screwdriver and can't just swap the blades.

Even if I wasn't such a big fan of hard handles, that would still be hilarious. Thanks. :lol_hitti

Okay, so some screwdrivers ended up in my mail box.

They don't fit my pallet in my platt, as the handles are too large.

Out come the blades.

Old p1 measures 0.178"
New p1 measures 0.181"

Old p2 measures 0.246
New p2 measures 0.250

So you get to hit it a little harder to get them to bottom out.

The only visible difference is that the new blades have a larger radius on the bolster on the tang side.

So, the moral of this is... If you are serviced by a truck guy, he will reach into the screwdriver parts bin and give you a blade from an instinct.

Happy screwing!

All of the blade part numbers used to be listed on the Snap-on Parts Catalog web page corresponding to the part number of each screwdriver. But now, all they have on there is the part numbers of the entire screwdrivers and when you click on the button that says "See Individual Parts" the page loads blank. I don't know what's going on with the parts catalog these days. It looks like somebody started to do an update but never finished it.

We all know why you really have hairy palms and wear glasses.

But back on the topic, I actually like the Instinct handles too. My favorite screwdriver handle years ago was a three sided Stanley that was quite similar to the Instinct, without the flare at the blade end (or the nice texture they put on them nowadays; it was shiny yellow acetate). I wish I knew what happened to it...

I just went on the Snap On website and was able to find these replacement blades. Here is the link for the SDDP31 https://store.snapon.com/PARTS-Blade-1-PHILLIPS-174--P659464.aspx

I was able to add them to my cart and they are not showing to be out of stock or discontinued. Not sure why you were told they are discontinued.
