It is my understanding that HD corporate or HD was aware of the clearance SD thread. That's really all I know.
I wonder if HD corporate was referring to this one when I called the other day?

There are 2 of the arborist chainsaws at my local hd in the recon area and they want 25%
Off. What will happen if I ring the tag out at the sco?

If you scan a tag it will just pop an alert calling the attendant. The attendant had to manually enter the SKU, which is what happened to me today. After about 2 minutes, manager confirmed to lead cashier that it's a penny lol

Just bought three Echo blowers in a row by putting the display model in a cart, taking it up to a cashier and giving them the sku. When they mention that it rings up at 1 cent, I just say it is on clearance and 'they' are trying to get rid of them. And then the cashier completes presses the compete transaction button and I swipe my credit card. Then the cashier removes the security device and I leave. Its like I am in the twilight zone. They don't even question the sku. I hope Home Depot is not reading this thread like they did on slickdeals.

I hope you're not talking about different models and giving the SKU for the penny model. I wouldn't be posting that here.

Yup it's called willful concealment. Same as price tag swapping. I just mentioned this yesterday or the day before.

On all 3 purchases I bought the PB 500T. I was just surprised that it was not questioned. The cashiers probably saw that the model on the screen matched the model on the blower, but I would have thought they would have called a manager in any case. I do not try to conceal anything, I don't want to be arrested or detained.

Give the cashier the SKU for it, she can manually type it in. 844-292

Ahh your post made it sound like you were taking a 500 sku and attaching it to another newer model.

I had similar thing. Told them it's wrong sku ## on there. Match sku ## with model ## printed on machine somewhere.
In there computer, sku ## usually also show model ##. It all depends on managers action. Some play games, hard ball and some are really nice guys.

Also thought it was weird that they would have 3 of the same display models lol

That would have been weird. It was different stores, different days even. I just expected a manager to come over and say either

it cannot be sold
it is not working
it has to be returned to the vendor
it has to be sold for the last price
they can give me 10% off full price

I figure that will happen from all the calls for penny deals. They probably only got a few calls a year, if that, and now they're getting numerous calls every week. If they don't know already they'll certainly figure out where it all comes from as people have already told / shown HD employee's how to find the deals. It's only a matter of time until someone mentions this site. That info will work up the ladder and at some point they might change the penny policy or fix the computers so it won't show those deals to us. Maybe even take the date off the tags. Lots of ways to make it harder on us. Obviously, by now, they know about SD and Fat Wallet, so I'm sure they're not too worried about deal sites in general.

But, making it harder is why I cringe when I read about some of the phone calls. Sure, getting a penny deal is cool, but if all the deals ended tomorrow was it worth it? I'm perfectly fine with paying the last clearance price on items to have access to future deals. That will save me way more money over the long haul than I'll make off any single penny deal.

The barcode generator post a couple days ago reminded me of a time I went to a friend of a friend's house and he had a new, in box, carpet washer and a new vacuum sitting on the floor. I asked if he was starting a carpet cleaning business and he straight out told me he read online how he could print a barcode for a lower / entry level machine, grab the best one off the rack and stick the new barcode on while wheeling it to the register. Since the screen would come up with "Hoover" or whatever nobody noticed the different model numbers. :wtf: He was so happy he saved $100 on these 2 things. I said something like, "I heard you make close to 6 figures? You're willing to lose it all to save a $100?" He never did it again.

The point is, think about the risk vs reward on the deals and choose your battles wisely. Don't raise hell, and potentially screw everyone else, just to save $12 on some bird seed, or whatever.

P.S. I saw that bird seed was on clearance. :D

Hip2u, I agree 100%.

Back in 2011, I was in my local HD late on a weekday afternoon. While walking through the paint dept. a couple employees were stacking gallons and quarts of Martha Stewart paint into a huge pile. They had a sign next to it that said price .01. I asked the employees if the cans of paint were really a penny in a joking manner.

I was shocked when they said "yes." The employee told me that HD had terminated a contract with Martha Stewart and they had to clear out all her products, and because nothing can be given for free the price was 1 cent a can for quarts and/or gallons, didn't matter.

I asked him if I could buy every single can and he said "sure."

I bought 44 gallons and 31 quarts all for 75 cents total! The employees thought is was hilarious and helped me wheel my 3 carts to the register and load in my truck. They are all tint base and they said keep my receipt and HD will tint them for life to whatever color I want.

I gave a lot away to family and friends and still have 20 something gallons left. My friends all thought it was hilarious. I have a reputation for finding deals like this :)

Just last weekend at Wal Mart I filled a cart with hardware clearance and went to the self-scanner for price checks. Found 4 Irwin plastic clamps that came up "not in system." Guess the SKU was so old it had been removed from the system.

At checkout after 10 mins of price checks and calls, got them for a buck a piece. Same clamp sells on amazon for 5.99 each.

There are plenty of legal deals like this. But changing price tags or making fake coupons is theft, plain and simple.

Not only that, but I think part of the fun of these deals is "the chase".

Illegally swapping barcodes would take all the fun out of it anyway.

Finding and buying stuff we dont need for a penny just because its a penny, well thats fun!

Thought I was gonna score a reconditioned Echo trimmer in Hooksett. Had a white tag with SKU that wouldn't come up in price check. It was priced $168. Non-reconditioned was like $225. New and reconditioned use different SKUs. Well, when the cashier punched in the SKU, it came up $168. Weird. It wasn't a generic SKU. i guess reconditioned stuff doesn't come up in price check app.

I always double and triple-check sku's that come up missing in the system. Too often it's just the HD system not showing a return. Sometimes searches for "dewalt" or "milwaukee" return zero entries as well.

Having issues with too many requests we are trying to sort out.
Fair enough. Once you get it resolved, can you send it to me? I have some giftcards and a trip out of state coming up, so I figured I'd hit up some other stores.

Anyone seen any Black Friday ads yet?

Yeah, I see a lot of "could not connect to server" errors. Its basically just a browser window, so ctrl+r to refresh the "page" sometimes helps. Other times I just need to exit the Price Check app completely and then go back in.

And on top of that some store PCs seem to work better than others, for whatever reason.

That's not allowed. You can only shop at your store. [emoji3]

Finally got my first penny deal today. I knew there was an Echo blower (PB500-H) sitting in the garden section at one store I have been checking. I stopped by today and tried to scan the sticker but it had a crease and wouldn't scan at SCO. I had the attendant put in the SKU that was on the sticker and it came up $.01. She kept saying it wasn't right and would sell it to me for $249 which is what was on the sticker. I told her no way I would pay that as it was missing all the pipes, filter, and cover. Finally she called another guy over and after we went back and forth for a few min, he double checked the numbers himself in the computer and it kept saying $.01. Finally he came back and told her to ring it up since it was their sticker.

Just ran into the same situation. There was a different sku wrote on the box of a Cs-352 "reconditioned".

Found an old Dremel Sawmax SM20-02 on the clearance shelf in Somersworth. Came up "not found". They gave it to me for $25. Works for me.
