I just picked through every Craftsman "ratchet" post on Ebay a couple nights ago, starting with "lowest first", and I am astounded (and amused) by what some Ebay sellers think stuff is worth.
I don't know anything about the "Premium" ones you're mentioning above, but in my humble opinion, a 20 or 30 year old Craftsman 1/4" drive ratchet isn't worth the prices many sellers are asking for.
Maybe Craftsman's sourcing from offshore puts in the mind of some the idea that there's going to be some mad rush for some supposedly "rare and hard to find" piece?

As mentioned above, click "add to watch list" and wait until it counts down to zero and see if it actually sold. I'm seeing all kinds of stuff on Ebay where sellers are asking for absolutely ridiculous prices, and they're not getting the sale.

they want $39 for a set that I might pay $25 for. no more.

I believe there's a serious disconnect from reality on the part of many sellers who, for whatever reason, think old hand tools are all gold-plated.
Certainly there are rare and collectible items which will command a higher price, but a 1/4" "flying V" Craftsman ratchet ain't worth no $50 bucks.

A completed listing is ANY listing that's run it's course. They can be sold or unsold. Completed listings are totally meaningless at establishing values.

Sold listings are where a willing buyer bought from a willing seller. Those are the only meaningful listings when trying to estimate an items market value on Ebay.

I buy my tools smart and don't overpay--no matter what the brand. Sorry to disappoint you there . If ya don't, well that's the way it rolls, champ.

I do have these which were part of a $75 lot tool buy at a local estate sale (I'm kicking myself for not buying more of what he had---it was an NOS treasure trove).

I guess I should turn in my Craftsman "loyalist" badge now...the shame of it all....., this MB503 Matco was only $40 including a side shelf some years ago off CL.

Should I do like the Snap On "In Your Corner" toolbox video does and use a HUSKY hammer to do the paint rub test? I almost fell over laughing when I saw that in the video....

I mean Matco and Craftsman are supplied by the same vendor, so do I get a pass?

I guess they have their place with certain folks. Remember, some don't care about the COO, but the warranty matters to them. Other probably do care about the COO and that's what drove the price.

I put used Nissan broken (but useable) mirrors on Ebay and then went for $52. I had some razor handles (for Shick and the like) that I was going to toss. For a gamble, I put them up---they sold on the first day, first try. I was shocked.

Yes, especially since the ratchets the op speaks of are still on the pegs around here in the stores and availabe in PILES in the outlet stores.

Yes, the kits are available. I believe I have some in my arsenal.

Correct production ceased, they were produced by Armstrong (Apex).

Well at least the rebuild kits are available whereas on the other currently running ratchet thread, they are not available making them the next level down or disposable for sure. Good to know which tools retain residual value.

The USA Craftsman Professional deep offset box end wrenches are priced crazy high on eBay also. I could just about buy new Snap On sets for what some of these folks are asking for Craftsman.

I don't suspect I will be needing a new one today but if I did would have to give serious consideration visiting the HF alter. If it works as well as the 12$ breaker bar cant see how it would be a big financial risk.
