TM: Craftsman Crowntop. not quite as nice as the 519x's but one of Craftsman's better vises. of course not quite as nice as the Rock Island and Reed made ones that might be even nicer than the 519x's. pretty sure Columbian vise company made the one you posted and here's one a little cleaner (not much) so you can see how it looks.

I've been ignoring that one on CL for a month. They wanted $100. Sold for $11.99 Serves them right. Hope it was somebody here so we can see it restored.

Hope they threatened "buy it here before I put it on ebay". :lol_hitti Got less than $10 for it.

It's like the guy near me who wanted $90 for a old bench grinder. He said he was firm on price and if he doesn't sell it, it's going to the scrap yard.

Most of the time when the initial price is too high I'll just walk away thinking, "Well, aren't you being silly". Sometimes it just gets my hackles up and I'll think,"That is obviously more precious to you than me so you'd better keep it". If I'm especially cranky and need a nap, I'll say it to them. Probably shouldn't though. They might need a nap too.

I just needed this color green in my life!! It was either this Versa or my Reed 106, one of them had to take one for the team.

Now, if I can just figure out how to apply a decal from an image from this site. I already have the image but I forget who to thank, Balane I believe.

Not quite. The rear jaw is the dynamic on the athol. Unlike the vanderman where the front jaw slides out.

You are correct !! I did not look at the picture close enough. I guess it was a way to make the vise appear the same with no patent infringement

Or the guy near you that bought a rough vise, didn't know it was repaired then tries to sell it for $100 more.

I've been getting skunked lately on every vise I've called-on. Very disappointing to have missed a couple of vintage Wiltons over the past week, so I decided to check CL late (for me) last night and found this Yost just a couple miles from my home. It was fun chatting with the guy who was a vintage tool collector reducing his stock (no other vises for sale).

Yost 4" for $35

Yost vises are great. The guy I bought all my Parker 433-1/2 parts was selling one, but I was at my vise budget for now so I passed. Nice find!

So I was taking apart my parker 433-1/2a for parts and wanted to share how it was built. It must have been built by union.

It has a pressed on stud with c-clip instead of a center bolt for the swivel base.

The main nut is held in by a wedge type piece instead of a pin.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1447283424.646555.jpg

The jaw towers are cut straight vs angled.

also the swivel base uses a smaller diameter swivel nut and bolt than the 433-1/2.
