Elect Hot Water heater

Going to replace my 40gal electric water heater tank soon. Anyone recommend me a good replacement? There seems to be lots of options out there and I don't mind spending a bit extra for good quality but I'm not sure what to be looking for. Or are the cheap ones fine as long as you keep up with the maintenance (anode, etc)?

Going with natural gas is not an option.

We installed this one about five months ago, so far so good. We did not get the WiFi module, but it does have the LCD settings.

I would look for stainless steel heating elements and a good warranty. We would have gone with the hybrid heat pump one, but it is much taller and we did not have the height. Another expensive but good style would be stone lined ones, the one we replaced was stone lined and it was 20 years old.

If I had hot water, I would save the electricity and never heat it. Seems like a scam if people are buying hot water heaters, I have in fact seen signs at big box stores that stated "hot water heater", made me laugh.

I always ask why do you need to heat hot water. To the OP, you may consider a gas fueled tankless water heater as a electric one will require a service upgrade to handle the large additional load, I dispeise LP gas but it's worth looking into.

Say what?

I have an electric heater already. It's old and needs to be replaced.

I have to reiterate to all.......natural gas is not available in this part of the country. It is out as an option.

Y'all can have your fun, (and I sometimes ask the same question when someone is referring to a residential water heater :D), but there are commercial "hot water heaters". These take the 110° or so hot water in a typical kitchen (think restaurant) and raise it to somewhere around 170° - 180° for the dishwasher. A true hot water heater. :spit:

The GE GeoSpring Hybrid Electric heating and Heat pump, I change out for my parents (that lived in the boondocks don't have gas services) few years back (maybe 2 , 3 or 4 years back). Paid out of pocket about $1000 when Lowes had it on sale, but after rebates, electric credits from utility companies and tax credits.... came out to about $500 ish. Check with your local utility / state for any tax / rebates. Couldn't be happier with that water heater.... I think Rheem also makes a similar one, maybe it was the same just re-brand improved or something. Few others here also have that same hot water heater as well

this one for ref, you can find it cheaper than MSRP now dependents on who you go to and what you paid with.

Around here that's called a booster, not a hot water heater. It makes 190* water for the dishwasher final rinse as required by the Board Of Health.

I said ABSOLUTELY nothing about natural gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I suggested LP gas rather then electric tankless because of the electrical requirements of a electric tankless would require a service upgrade, in this day and age tankless are worth considering.

BTW, my Marathon is about 10 years old and i have had to do nothing with it. Drain a couple of gallons from the bottom from time to time but there is not even rust or sediment that comes out.
I think i have mine set at 160* and the mixing valve drops it down to 140*. It has been a while ssince i set the valve so i may have gotten those numbers off a bit.

American WH's I have had good luck with. Also EnviroTemps. Have a higher budget ? Bradley/White and A.O Smith if still available in your town. Good luck and FWIW .JMO
