Yeah but a 5" vise is perfect for just about any task without having to take it apart if you want to move it.

That is how I feel about my tools but ever since I've joined GJ it seems i have two, three, or even four of everything now!!

Yep, I'm pretty much the same way. Especially with anvils and vises it seems. And I ended up paying 200. Prob too much but I wanted it.

If you like it, can use it, and it doesn't have any major issues, I wouldn't be ashamed of that price at all. The stand is quite nice and would be a good chunk in materials, more if you paid someone to build it for you. What is the diameter and thickness of the base plate?

The base is about 27 inches or so and the base is 1/4 inch I believe (I'd have to measure it when I get home though). Its pretty damn heavy.

That's a fair price (ie $200 ) for heavy 5" Wilton vise and base. Jaws look pretty good and the base is much nicer than old rim filled with concrete.

I can envision it restored in blue or verde green and looking Awesome !!

Thanks guys! The father in laws favorite two lines after I buy anything are "you coulda got it cheaper" and "a fool and his money are soon parted." Every damn time.

And I'll strip it down and paint it and put it to use.

Sometimes we just gotta pay for what we want. The cost be damned

I'm sure a lot of us have done that at one time or other.

Nice pick up on the vise.

Enjoy.

Yep, while $200 isn't a steal, you didn't get robbed either. Fair price for what you got, considering the Wilton bullets command a premium these days.
