I used paypal online via hd.com. Still haven't credited my account yet.

What payment method? Different methods have different processing times (which I think are all ******** because they can pull the money instantly but for some reason can never put it back that fast, but I digress)

I placed an online order 11/10 for the DeWalt kit and M12 ratchet, then returned the dewalt kit that evening. The ratchet is being shipped to my house. I have a pending charge for the total amount of both tools, as well as 2 posted charges for the amount of each tool. I also have a refund that has already posted for the returned dewalt kit. The refund and individual kit and ratchet posted on 11/11.
That was done with PayPal credit.

I also have returned items that used Pay After Delivery (funded by bank account) and instead of canceling the bank account transfer, it waits until the transfer happens, then another couple days, then refunds the account. So, it depends on how you paid as well. But there were no PIN issues or anything like that, the return was as smooth as a credit card return in the actual store.

Just wondering....which ratchet did you choose? the 3/8 or 1/4 ratchet and what are your plans for the ratchet?

I went with the 1/4". Figured the slightly smaller sockets would be better, and they still go to 9/16" so should cover everything I need them for. Number one use case is going to be 10mm on jeeps and GM stuff though. Fender flare brackets, core support, fenders, whatever. Break it loose with a normal ratchet then go to the battery powered option.

Lots of situations where there's room for the battery ratchet but not much room to swing even a normal ratchet.

Looking for some input on the M18 Fuel Hammer Drill/Driver. Can this be used as a driver only (IE select-able hammer function)? I've checked the Milwaukee site and dont see anything about it, so I'm guessing no.

Id really love the M18 Fuel Drill and Impact Driver kit; but the Hammer Drill is hard to justify with a corded Bosch sitting on the bench.

As far as I know, you CAN use it as a regular drill.

Not sure if the pics show it but the "ring" you select clutch levels with also has a setting that looks like a drill and a setting that looks like a hammer. Set to hammer is hammer drill, set to drill is "unlimited" torque and set to any of the numbers is a breakway torque setting

Looks like some of the Fuel Gen 2 tools are not available as options when adding the additional tool selection to the combo. As an example, I was looking to add the 2755B-20 1/2" Impact but could only find the 2655B-20 on the list. Guess Milwaukee/HD is using the promotion to reduce Gen 1 inventory. Do you think HD would honor the discount with the Gen 2 tool?

In store I bet it would work fine.

I did almost the exact same thing. I returned my dewalt kit the very next day. Paypal says 3-5 business days to refund to my Paypal. Then another 3-5 days to refund to my actual checking account. 10 days for a refund? ridiculous! Never again! My M18 light is back ordered so I haven't been charged for it yet. I found it better to order online because local HD didn't have M18 light in stock. I won't do this **** again. My money is ******* in limbo land. No one knows where it is.

The main tool kit 1/2 hammer drill and 1/4 Impact driver 2897-22 is second gen fuel. I got the discount on it. I got the 2731-20 7 1/4" circular saw to go with it. Now it was not second gen fuel. But they do not have it out yet for second gen.

Yes, the $399 combo kit is the Gen 2. Trying to add a Gen 2 tool to take advantage of the $150 promo is proving to be not easy. Beyond the combo, not sure how many of the Gen 2 tools are not yet available. Haven't stopped into a store yet.

Yes, just about every hammer drill has a function to enable or disable the hammer option. The selection ring gives you three choices.. Drill (without use of the clutch), hammer drill ( without use of the clutch) driver mode - enables the clutch which will give u a selectable amount of torque without using the hammer action

I'm pretty sure the hammer drill and impact are the only two gen 2 fuel tools so far. I could be wrong but I am fairly certain.

It's crazy, I have a couple of the 2897-22 kits posted on CL for $280 and no ones even making offers. I had more calls and offers last week when they were posted for $320 - $340. I think it may be more beneficial at this point to break the kits up and sell the pieces on eBay.

Guessing the problem might be that someone could still get it cheaper from an authorized dealer with this promotion; For example, buy the 2897-22 kit + the cheap battery power adapter, then return the power adapter.

The sets and bare tools seem to be advertised broadly on Ebay and CL at close to the pricing that results from this deal. Either, there is another source or people are selling things, from this deal, at very low margin. I'm not a flipper, so no worries to me, but the market appears to be fairly efficient.

Anyone flipping the kits can't be making much, maybe from the other tool they get with it but that seems like a lot of time and effort if they are actually trying to make a decent profit. Not to mention if they are selling on Craigslist and eBay for $280 those people aren't making any money I wouldn't think, and if it's for the extra tool discount why not just return the kit like everyone else does. I was getting the 2897-22 kit plus an extra tool worth $150 for $250 total after tax and everything for the last few weeks. Then I was selling the kits for $250-$300 when I would get offers which was a good deal for the buyer and I ended up with a free tool. I didn't care about making money I really just wanted the free/cheap extra tools. I was just hoping to keep selling them so I could rinse and repeat and build my collection up a bit more with the other tools. Oh well, nice while it lasted. I hate dealing with eBay fees and shipping.

the m18 3/8" right angle impact wrench doesn't trigger the deal, but yet the right angle impact driver does.. wtf?? im sure if i emailed HD they would allow the purchase to be made, but it makes no sense..

i almost wish HD sold the 12v and 20v ingersoll rand stuff. this would be a good excuse to to get one of those...

You were getting a $150 tool, and the 2897-22 kit for $250? I find that hard to believe. If so, how are you complaining about there not being much profit? Split up the kit and the extra tool and there is an easy $150 profit (with ebay fees and shipping). Last I checked, and 60% margin is pretty darn good.

Yes for $250, anything over $150 for the extra tool he would add that to the price and anything under $150 he would subtract from the $250. So for example, for the $399 2897-22 and the $199 M12 fuel combo I paid just over $300 all together. No not at Home Depot. That's how I got my m18 fuel combo, m12 Fuel combo, m18 fuel grinder, m18 fuel 7-1/4 circular saw, m18 fuel sawzall, m18 Bluetooth radio/charger, m18 fuel 1" SDS and a few other pieces. I'm not complaining about profit since I'm not out to make a profit, money wise. I said I'm not selling them to make money, just to keep the extra tool and expand my collection for next to nothing. I'm Just under $500 in for all of my Milwaukee stuff so far, less if you factor in selling my Porter cable stuff I had just purchased in August. I didn't have any Milwaukee tools until a few weeks ago when I found the guy I've been purchasing from. All I had was ridgid, dewalt and Porter cable. I've since sold my Porter cable tools and will eventually get rid of the old ridgid and dewalt stuff too. When I said they can't be making much, if any, profit I was referring to the people buying from Home Depot strictly to flip the tools. It's not cheap to ship that combo kit and actual selling prices on eBay are around $300-ish for the combo. eBay takes 10%, PayPal tales just over 3% I believe then add in shipping costs and these guys don't have anywhere near a 60% margin.

I was just saying that it was crazy no one had contacted me about the combo kits for $280. No one was even making low ball offers. When I had them listed at $320-340 I at least had people offering me the $250 I wanted to recoup my cost.

How were you buying the combos for those prices?

399 + 199 = ~600. If you only took 150 off (the current promo from HD) it would drop down to 450, not 300.

Where were you getting a larger discount?

I was buying from a guy in Natomas. Found him at the end of October and met with him a few times. He got a discount somehow/somewhere and the savings were passed on to the people he was selling to. Me included. I haven't called to see if I can get more tools yet because I haven't sold the few kits I have left so I don't even know if he still has anything discounted. Hopefully he does because I have a few more pieces I wanted to get.

Ahh.

Careful with Milwaukee stuff, seemed like last year or the year before there was a lot of knock off stuff in the market. Looked EXACTLY like Milwaukee but from the price you just assumed it was too good to be true (check Alibaba)

Haha!!! I actually ran into someone trying to peddle "milwauke" tools last year. I could not believe the audacity some people have to stay in the parking lot of HD and try to sell knock-offs.

Lol they are Milwaukee, I made sure of it. Everything was brand new and sealed, not that the boxes are hard to open lol. I checked all the tools each time before handing over any money.

These sound like an Alibaba special or a "missing shipment" special to me. That's crazy cheap pricing.

You questioned the HD flippers using this deal, and I'll go ahead and admit that I've averaged a 40% margin flipping tools off of this deal. I return the large kits though back to the store. Maximizing savings with secondary kits that are already on sale and then splitting them up is the way to do it.

And I scored!

I was looking to purchase the new Makita XTP01Z 23ga cordless pin nailer. I saw HD had it listed for $189 on the website but it could not be shipped. Only select stores had it. I check one store with no luck but the tool rep said another store on the other side of town showed 2. I called and had the guy pull one for me. I picked the tool up tonight, grabbed the large DeWalt kit to get the $150 off promo. Upon checkout the discount did not apply. The manager was called over where I was told it must be due to the mismatched brand kits. I replaced the DeWalt kit with the large Makita kit, still no discount applied. Now I have the store manager, tool manager, and another higher up looking at this. The tool manager states the tool came from the upper shelf and isn't even on the floor yet for sale. They aren't sure if is going to be included in the promo. I keep to my guns and argue the promo sign in front of them that its $150 off with purchase of a bare tool. Finally, the manager decides to override the system 'this one time.'

The $150 promo discount was then applied to the bare tool ($189 - $150 = $39) while the kit stayed full price. I smiled and checked out. Making a trip back to Home Depot this weekend to get myself a new DeWalt 20v grinder.

I also picked up that new Oil Impulse driver using the $150 promo. Online purchase only. That thing is amazing!

I can't believe they were dumb enough to take the entire $150 off the one item haha. Are you now returning the kit?

Good for you!

Why do I feel the Ridgid deal is decent? Some reported having to get $100 off the $279 price tag alone, provided you added a qualifying $30 item such as the Ridgid flashlight, but this didn't work for me.

Yes, I am returning the kit. I already have the complete DeWalt brushless family. I am supplementing my DeWalt lineup with Makita to cover the missing tools I need. I do custom trim carpentry and built-ins.

77Ford, have a garage thread? I'd love to see what all you have on those $40 craftsman boxes (assuming you got all those a year or 2 back when they dropped in price on accident). I want that planer!
