The jaws are 6". I guess it's a 600S because it has the swivel base. And it IS a monster. Gotta weigh at least a buck and a half.

A 6 inch Wilton Bullet for around $.50 a pound? And I thought I had seen just about everything.

In the best way possible... you ****!

Cleaned and freshened up a couple vises this weekend. A Craftsman 506-51811 that I picked up from an estate sale last weekend. Decided to paint it a color other than red...just to look different.

And this one came with a Craftsman 150 drill press I picked up a few weeks ago (which is getting refreshed as well). It's a Starrett that's the mid 1960s. Painted this one Hammerite light green.

The man I bought it from got it for nothing. He told me that a building by his business had been sold. The old owners were just scrapping things, including this vise, so he saved it from a trip to the dumpster.

I'm beginning to worry about joe a bit.

You suckage is not an infinite proposition, hope he doesn't run out.

Nuts

Veeps is killing my ability to earn suckage, just as MANY of you had predicted would happen as he vacuums every CL vise within 100 miles!!! I'm now in the weeds burrowing into every nook and cranny for vises. It is hard work, but I am having some modicum of success. Thanks to all of you for your support and 'you ****' it means a lot to me.Now my goal is my own Cfman 5198!!!!

My first "real" vise restore! (I did a crappy little Craftsman homeowner once).

This is how it came to me; a Wilton C0 3.5" jaw.

bbbabd8cc20d05129313f6893b35efc4.jpg

Finished stripping it down, and let the dynamic jaw and base sit in Zepresto for a few hours. Took them out and primered them up. Took the wire wheel to all the small parts and lead screw, and bead blasted the jaws/pipe jaws. I did have to fabricate new screw retaining pins from 3/16" stock, and new pipe jaw pins from 5/16" stock. Taped it off, and gave it a nice coat of paint (i let my girl pick the color). Threw it back together with some anti seize as lubricant, and viola!

I have the swivel base too, but havent put it on yet.

I think i may do the black lettering on it.

Best part...... I have $15 in to it. The vise was free! Had to buy paint/primer/steel rods.

looks like an 80's maybe C 1, value depends on local availability. New I think they sell for 800 roughly. used a good unrestored price is 200 or less. But that's just me . I've paid less than 100 for them and as much as 185 but they flip for 400+. Hope this helps.

Doesn't look like he wants to sell it separately. He wants to sell it as a package with a other stuff. I told him to let me know if he changes his mind. The search continues :/

What kind of "package"... that's right up my alley! And where?

Like the sweet deco design. Cost me 35 bucks and a drive across Portland, always a lovely experience. Works great the paint is olive drab under a lighter green.

:rocker:

What is the aproprate color for a Parker? Looks like a dark blue under the sage green, but the base was red. I'm thinking the deco lettering and racing stripes in a contrasting color.

You'll never walk into that Wilton! Nice job on such a quick turnaround!

I was curious if I could get some info on a vise recently offered to me. It's an old RAE 4-1/2 which I've seen before, but this seems older. Very similar to Records and Woden, but IIRC made in Canada.

Is anyone familiar with these models and perhaps any history of this particular style?

This is not mine. It's on CL in Vegas. The back jaw appears to be removable & lock in multiple positions. I have no idea if this price is crazy or not. I'm not buying it anyway. It looks like it was probably repaired, although the seller doesn't mention it. But it looks unusual & I thought maybe someone here might be interested.

Thanks for the quick response. I live in central Illinois and I'm very new to this hobby, but very excited about it. I'm still trying to learn how to do everything in these forums so I will have some pics of my vise on here at some point but it just depends on how fast I can figure out how to post pics lol. May take I bit of time but I'll get it. He'll it just took me about an hour to figure out how to get back to this post to respond lol I couldn't find this dawn thing anyplace but finally got lucky.

Welcome to the board. Can you post some pictures?

Hey guys sorry these are some pretty shotty pics, but it's all I have on my phone at this point. Tomorrow I will definitely try to get some that are a lot better. Some you can actually work with. But the writing on the side says Columbian Cleveland no. 302 1/2. 3 1/2". In person the lettering is clear and legible.

I did some Google searching for this vise before I found this forum and all that I could get to turn up was vises that had all the same writing on them, the difference being is that one of them I found said 302 1/2 m2, I believe and the other had 302 1/2 m3 I'm pretty sure. And this is my first vise ever so I know squat about them other than the fact that I want to restore one maybe and see if it's a hobby I want to stick with. Anyways with what little I know I'm pretty sure that the m2 and m3 are in some way different than the plain 602 1/2. I'd really like to find out the age of it, maybe know if it's just a common olé vise that every shop in the country had or if it was maybe a little bit more scarce than that. Of course would like the value as well. It was free so if you tell me it's worth ten bucks only that's fine cause I'm still money ahead. It has a swivel base and no anvil. Any info would be greatly appreciated

AFAIK the first Columbian vises had a triangle with a C inside, next generation curved lettering on both sides, then curved one side straight the other, then straight both sides. Yours to my eye looks to have nicer curves to the jaw towers than later Columbians, I like it. I'm sure you're aware that it's missing the dynamic jaw. Here's a link to some literature you might browse to try and find yours. http://scuttle.dayid.org/wiki/index.php/Category:Columbian

I know there aren't many dutch members here but thought I'd post it anyway:

theres a Wilton Bullet for sale in the east of the country (too far to drive for me) for 85 euro's.

pretty rare in these parts although it doesn't look very old.

Maybe I won't bid on it but I did browse and saw a few vises and other tools at what seems to be very reasonable prices.

Tools definitely aren't badly priced.

Might also be a problem of people not knowing what they have. The only vise brands that retain premium value are German made Heuer and Paddinghaus.

I was looking at that last night. I wonder if Wilton made it without the Wilton name cast on it, or the owner ground it off. I've never seen that clamp on base thought.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't know about the 902 or what logos are supposed to be each side of the vise, but the 202 is well represented by Wilton.

Check out Bigcaddy's on page 1293, post 25844.

My guess is that in the process of making the mold the lettering was damaged, and the worker smoothed the blemished spot by hand before casting.
