They could just have copied the GW numbering system, same as cheaper oil filters or other auto parts copy the numbering systems used by more well-known brands.

Some companies can simply afford to give out better prices due to the quantity of consumer they have. Instead of trying to make the quick buck off every individual sale, they offer great prices to everyone and make money in the long run. I've dealt with this plenty of times, and you should not be hesitant.

Well at the very least I know not to buy from essentialhardware.com I am unsure if they have a single happy customer

I don't know if I totally answered my question but found out a hardware store down the road from me sells do it best tools. Went down to check it out and the do it best wrenches were on the same hooks as the corresponding gearwrench wrenches.

Don't take them being on the same hooks as that they are the same. No idea if DIB tools wrenches are made by Ideal/Gearwrench, but they are a different sku in the system and warehouse. I assure you looking at many DIB tools they are not uniformly gearwrench quality.
