Not in my area. Just checked HD and they are full price. I have one but a friend of mine is looking for one similar to mine. Great compressor.

You may want to check Amazon to see if they matched the HD price. I know they did on the 6.3g.

That is a newer model that is also on sale. I've been watching it on Amazon. They aren't price-matching Home Depot yet on this particular model. I have some Amazon gift cards that I have been wanting to use on this purchase.

If that meets your needs fine. Shipping those has not been good. Very high damage rate.

I bought a CAT 4620A from Amazon that was "returned" but in "full working order". Maybe it was when Amazon got it, but by the time it got to my house it was very bad shape. I negotiated a big discount and fixed it myself for a very good price. Most of the parts a common Chinese items that you can buy off of eBay cheap. They only part I had to buy from CAT was the electric unloader (a Normally Open solenoid operated valve). Pretty odd design because there is an unloader builtin to the pressure switch which they did not use :dunno:.

If you ever have to do any work on the "plumbing", they use epoxy as a thread sealant. Heat it up a bit with a propane torch before thrying to remove ANYTHING !

Anyone know how to get amazon to price match home depot? That would save the tax.

You lost me a little on this one. Is your general comment about the quality of the compressor, or is it a concern about shipping one of these?

These compressors generally have good reviews on GarageJournal.

The CAT 10gal 2HP is down to $292 online now. The Makita MAC2400 is still for $299 is tempting as well. It sounds like the CAT will supply more air with lower noise levels, but some quality issues in the Amazon reviews are concerning.

Thoughts? Are the CAT and Makita about the same quality level and both should last for many years?

FYI: You might find this useful, this was posted on CA's website

"December 1st, 2015 California Air Tools will be introducing 4 NEW 2.0 Hp Ultra Quiet & Oil-Free Air Compressors designed for the garage, shop, office or warehouse.
Having only 70 decibels of sound, makes this air compressor one of the quietest 2.0 Hp air compressors in the industry.
The 10 gallon air tank is large enough to hold air for more continous tools, yet compact enough to move and store out of the way.

Quiet, Powerful and Compact!
California Air Tools 10020C Ultra Quiet & Oil-Free Air Compressors"

Will CA be having a blow out for their older models or ?

$292 @ HD for the 10ga/5.30 CFM @ 90 PSI/70db is tempting but maybe these will go lower during Black Fri. if they have new models coming out in Dec?

Just a thought

Pic of new one coming out in Dec., looks a little more polished but is 6" taller (36" total height).

Thanks for posting. I've got my eye on that 10 gallon one to replace my large 60 gallon unit as i just moved to a tightly packed neighborhood and don't really need the large amounts of air or noise right now.

I have not used the Makita but it gets great reviews. CAT is a good compressor and should last many years. I think the main reason people buy CAT is because of the quietness. Using it indoors (garage or basement) makes a huge difference. I had a PC air compressor before and my ears always rang when it turned on.

If you look back through comments on GJ and Amazon you will see CAT has a big problem is shipping because of poor packaging! I bought mine at HD last year because i wanted to check it before i left store rather than deal with shipping it back.

CONCUR !

CAT is going to have to start putting them in a sturdy wooden crate to survive UP/FedEx, especially if they are going to a larger tank.

I've had the 10 gallon CAT for about a year and a half now. Really happy with it. I couldn't leave my old Craftsman compressor turned on out there because you could hear it so well inside the house. So any time I wanted to use it I had to wait for it to fill the small tank.

I have this one sitting next to the inside wall of the garage, which also puts it almost below my desk in the bonus room above the garage. I just leave it turned on all the time so I've got air immediately when I need it. I usually work from home at least one full day a week and I don't remember ever hearing it from up here. It helps that it doesn't leak down very fast but I'm sure it has come on while I've been working before.

I like it so much that I bought a CAT 1.6 gallon a while back to run my airbrush I was going to try to learn to use. That one is inside the house in a spare bedroom I took over for hobby stuff. If I shut the door to the room I can run the compressor without annoying my wife if she's down the hall.

Chris

EDIT: I did get both of mine from Amazon and they arrived in good condition but I was a little worried after reading the reviews about packaging.

Wow, now I have another factor to my analysis paralysis on getting that 10 gallon one I've been eyeing for a whiles now.

I'm wondering if the new one is worth waiting for. Looks like it's pretty much the same other than the sheet metal where the gauges are and the tank is shaped different. I've been eyeing the 10 gallon one to replace my loud *** craftsman 33 gallon. Looks like it will run my impacts guns fine.

I got sears to match the home depot price, and avoided the shipping problems by choosing store pickup. Sears, hd and amazon all charge tax in MA, so i decided to play the points game with sears. 15% back in points will go towards another worthy (probably discretionary) purchase.

Did you do it through chat? I tried last time it was on sale, but since it wasn't stocked in my local Home Depot (nor is it stocked at my local Sears store), they refused.

Except it's not oil-less. Have you ever had the joy of sitting in the same garage as any Craftsman compressor? ... they are REALLY LOUD. I doubt the Mac5200 is THAT loud.

The mac5200 is pretty loud, haven't heard it back to back with an oil less, but it definitely carries a penalty for being one of the higher volume 120v compressors out there. Looks like it's rated at 90db for whatever that may be worth.

I have one of these 33 gallon Craftsman Oil-less that wakes up every Zombie in 5 states when I run it.

Does this one flow more CFM?

Specs wise it looks like it regulates at 5 psi's higher (125 psi max) and fills the tank ten seconds faster (25"), also five pounds lighter.

If that is the only changes then that not a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. Although a 30% improvement in topping off is nice.

I've been eyeing the IR Garage Mate lately, but the upright 10 gallon CAT unit looks very similar spec wise, minus the tank size!

I think CAT is missing the boat by NOT having a 20 gallon tank ! I understand the issue is shipping (especially direct to the customer), but as they get better market penetration in places like HD, Menards and Lowes, this problem will solve itself.

For those with LOUD (or dead) oil-less compressors with decent size tanks, you CAN buy just the CAT motor/pump assembly. Certainly NOT a bolt on but most (all) of the extra parts you need are available on eBay cheap ! Hint, use stainless braided hoses and good thread sealer (LOCTITE 567).

Check the CAT web site. Most of the motor/pumps are available through Amazon.

They do have a new 20 gallon but it's only $1,200 more than the 10 gallon.

It does have an impressive 10.60 CFM at 90 psi.

Time to fill tank from empty to full - 150 seconds

I ordered on line and used the price match form from the sears website. I figured it would take forever to hear back from them, but i got a confirmation email last night that the difference had been refunded. The compressor won't be in the store for pick up until 11/30.

I actually had to place the order from sears first because they require the order number. If they had refused the match i would have cancelled the order. Fortunately they matched, so now i just have to wait until it comes in.

I ordered the 10 gallon one from Amazon since they price matched it.

Had a hard time deciding between the 6310 and 10020 models. Figured I could have got by on the 6310 for almost half the price, especially since I have Milwaukee impact tools. In the end decided to buy the bigger one, figure I would rather have more than I need. This way if I ever need to run air tools it would work better. Cheaper to spend the extra $130 now.

Snagged one for $292. I was going to 2 weeks ago because my 20 gallon vertical belt drive is just too big for my new workshop space (need something that can go under a bench) I only occasionally use an impact wrench so this is perfect for me (for using nailers, inflating tires, and very moderate use of impact wrench and air hammer.) I'll sell the 20 gallon easily for $150-175 so it's a win win

Okay, once again I need to call upon your collective wisdom. The following three models are pretty close in price right now. Which should I get?

4610-on sale for $207. Seems to have a slightly higher output but smaller tank. Easier to carry

6310-on sale for $159 right now. Probably a little harder to move than above because of design.

5510SE-on sale for $200. Similar specs to one above except it is the new "SE" series which they say is designed to last longer. Is it worth the extra $40 to pay for this? All the specs look about the same.

This is going to be my first compressor. Probably will be used for carpentry and around the house stuff mostly. Nailers, etc..... I don't plan on moving it much, except if I'm installing trim work or something.

I have a Craftsman 33 gallon noise maker. If I sold it and bought this one...

Other than the loss of capacity and loss of noise, any downside in reference to performance.

I would like to still run a 1/2" impact well.

Pulled the trigger on the 10 gallon. Going to sell my 60 gallon unit. Too noisy, and i don't do any big painting anymore. Hope it can still run a die grinder and 1/2 impact when needed. Specs say it should.

Okay, I pulled the trigger on the 6310 for $159. I noticed that it was the only one of the three that had a water separator. That sealed the deal for me.

Water separator ? I don't think it has a "water separator", but it does have a built in 1/4 turn drain valve.

The CAT 6310 is better for nailing projects, because it is easier to move. I have a CAT 6320. I have not used it much but I expect to use it for automotive when I get my 3/8" Astro ONYX Nano Impact and HF reactionless Earthquake ratchet.

Ugh I can't wait for mine. Had to ship it to work and sneak it in after I sell my current compressor so the wife won't notice. Think I'll have any trouble running this (10020)off my generac inverter generator (2000 watt continuous 2200watt surge). Would make my fence project easier for running my nailer for the pickets. Running the nailer off my little two gallon compressor won't cut it and not really wanting to run hundreds of feet of hose

Sorry, if the proper term is "Water Trap". It's a little trap between the tank and the hose. The other models don't come with this.
