picked these up at Lowes since I had a couple giftcards and have been wanting this to go with my Bosch drill. I was waiting for the brushless version to be released over here but I waited long enough. If it comes out I'll sell this one and upgrade! lol

These arent your average set of pliers for the GJ I guess .. :dunno:

... but I figgered that with my shed thread titled, Suburban Shearing Shed ... and the GJs addiction for bargain hunting, a piccy was justified,

... and besides - someone might get a chuckle out of them .. :D

About $600 odd dollars worth, new, down here. Got 'em at a sale on the weekend for $60. Mint condition, probably circa 1960-1980.

Ones on the left are from a firm called Bakers, originally founded in Sydney, in 1888 and now operating out of a country town, just a coupla hrs down the road from me.

Have you tried these before? 3.35 inch max jaw size and much less likely to strip bolts than an adjustable wrench. About the same price as those 24 inch SK adjustables too.

I have both, you can't put a pipe on the knipex and I would not use a hammer on them either. They are great for lots of applications, but nothing beats a big adjustable when you need it, well except a big pipe wrench of course.

I have 10 inches, they are alright but a bit to cumbersome for my liking. I have never have an issue rounding anything off with an adjustable and anyone who has simply doesn't know how to use one.

We have a 60 inch Ridgid Aluminum Pipe Wrench in the shop, you want to talk about torque?

I like my 24" adjustable, it probably the same as that SK but has Wright on it instead, got it from HJE for $90 odd. They are often the best tool for the job because its the tool you can carry with you, not so easy to carry a complete set of wrenches that big and pipe wrenches mar too much.

Went to Sears after work to see if they had any of the DeWalt air tools on sale. Didn't see any at this particular store, but I did find a newer old stock -VΛ- 32-piece combo wrench set marked on clearance for $49.97. I already have a full metric set of WrightGrip wrenches, but as a weekend mechanic that owns hardly any SAE wrenches, I figured that was a deal I couldn't pass up. When I got to the register it rang up as $22.97. The cashier was almost as shocked as I was.

I know how some people feel about Craftsman, but does this qualify as a "you ****" deal? Little over a dollar per wrench if you ignore the 10 midgets.

BTW first post. I'm already wasting too much time at work on here and spending way too much money, but I love it.

Not after you solicit "suckage" in any way shape or form. Asking "does this qualify as a you **** deal?" only means one thing... "self suckage". Once self suckage happens, it doesn't matter how good the deal was, it's no longer worthy of "you ****"

So no, it doesn't qualify. Sorry.

Got my HE order today, man that 1/2 breaker bar rocks. I can't wait to twist something in half with it :)

And an Amazon snag, all three for under a hundy delivered. Being lazy and not wanting to change attachments has its reward. This will make 7, 4-1/2" grinders in action at the fab table.

girlfriend gave me an early Christmas present today:

Indestro Catalog 22MA and Craftsman Mechanics' Tools Catalog covers by four.cycle, on Flickr

Craftsman Mechanics' Tools Catalog pp 2-3 by four.cycle, on Flickr

also picked up a whole mess of tools but I'm still trying to figure out how to get decent photo images of them. having a difficult time with lighting.

and to any who inquired about the catalogs I posted in another thread (or these above): we fiddled around with the scanner here but it's not cooperating (or maybe we're just not smart enough to figure it out.) the goal is to get them all scanned and put into *.pdf format so they can be emailed easily.
bear with me please on that one - I'm certain someone else can do it for me if we can't, but there is no way I can drop it in their lap until after the first of the year.

(edit: no idea on the dates of either of the above catalogs. the Indestro catalog No. 22MA looks very similar to the 1959 catalog I posted in the "Indestro" thread, but this small one has a "new items" section in the back showing items which do not appear in the 1959 full-size catalog. it's reasonable to assume it is probably of more recent vintage.
there is nothing printed in the Craftsman catalog that would give any clue as to date.
someone more familiar with the line would be able to make a better guess than me.)

I believe they are OTC re-branded. Mac and Cornwell also sell a set like it. I have the OTC and the Snap On. The Snap On definitely feel better in your hand. I also have the OTC angled version and those are handy.

I have a set of the SO strippers. They say USA on them. I have noticed other brands are very similar (almost identical) but either say China or Taiwan. Not sure what is going on with these...who copied who?
