Awesome Hazet Torque Wrench Find

Hey everybody,

This is my first post and I thought this would be a good one! These are 6000 series wrenches, Hazet's top of the line with 2% accuracy. This is a very expensive torque wrench. MSRP is over $800. The cheapest I've ever seen is $399, and that is shipped from Germany. Practically new with the case to boot. Now it is in NM, but my cars are German so that works for me.

I believe they would already be gone except the guy didn't put "torque wrench" in the title and unless you are searching for the part number would never find it. He has a bunch, must have been a closed factory or something.

I got mine Friday, and it looks brand new. Sweet!

Oh...and no, that isn't my eBay listing. Just realized it might look that way. :)

I'm just a tool junkie who works on his on stuff, so I am loving this forum!

Looks like a nice torque wrench, but 120NM is only around 88.5lb-ft. Not really much for a 1/2" drive torque wrench. I really thought hard about buying one til I did the conversion. I have two good 3/8" torque wrenches in this range, so I figured I would pass.

You might want to post this in the Hot Deals subforum. Or a mod might want to move it. In either case thanks for letting everyone know about this listing.

Nice wrenches. Still used!
Calibration or check against digital torque adaptor or whatever you trust is mandatory. Who knows how much use they have seen or if they have been stored properly with torque set to zero.

Interesting, I didn't know this about Torque Wrenches. FWIW, the wrench arrived dialed completely out (0).
Most clickers have spring that needs to be relaxed between uses. If you store them set for relatively high torque for weeks or months the spring can (and will eventually) loose some of it's tension resulting in less torque on the fastener than the scale indicates.

Chances are the people using these wrenches new that, so they are probably fine. However it's better to know for sure.

sometime, somewhere, I found a link on GJ to a test on leaving the spring cranked up. Now I don't remember the details exactly, but I remember being in awe at how rapidly the numbers changed. IIRC the test was on a HF TQ, and they assumed it was a weaker spring (metal) to begin with, but it was still a crazy drop in numbers. Something like 4% the first week, 7% the second week. I'm sure I'm off on the exact numbers like I said, but it was definitely more than a little bit. A quality tool may fair better for longer when cranked up, but still....

It had enough of an impact that I bit the bullet and got some Techwerenchs and Split beams b/c my old TQs were 40 year old yard sale finds kinda stuff.

Ok, back to the scheduled program. Nice find OP. But alas, the techwrench has this covered as well. So, i get to keep my pocket a little heavy tonight.

Interesting, and surprising it happened this fast. I don't recall ever seeing this tested.
Thanks for the info!
