Forgot to post my deal, even though it doesn't help the OP.

Ran cat5 to my shop (its like 15ft from house). Put another wireless access point in the shop and also ran cable to the bench for all those computer repair jobs I get roped into.

Rocketman, and R6, checked with wild blue, they say that the modem is "account specific" and you cant add another modem to the system.... now is that the straight scoop, or are they blowing smoke????
i have heard that the modems were tied to the accounts before, so it maybe, however i dont know enough about any of it to know.

so am i back to running cat 6 or installing a repeater????

It depends on the ISP. you might be able to get around it by cloning the mac address and serial of your current cable modem, but you'll have to find a cable box that's capable of doing that. You might want to call your ISP back and ask to speak with a tech, sounds like you might have gotten a more sales-ish person possibly.
Tell them what you're trying to do and if it would be possible to run a modem or break-out box to your barn.

...alternatively, if you're only going to be doing minimal stuff in the barn that doesn't require an intensive connection. ask your provider if they'll comp you a dial-up line you can connect to when you're out there.

I would go the repeater route first. You can always return.

Just thought I'd showoff my system in the garage both are wireless-G With no problems. I also have a mini florescent light under the cabinet with no problems.

I think you may have missed it. He's on Sat. Not cable, FIOS, or DSL.
You can't do any of that with Sat.

ok well i got a repeater, thanks for that advice, it seems to be working pretty good ive not mounted it yet or made an enclosure for it but i think it will be pretty easy to get that done when i know exactly where i want the thing.... but it works and ive got internet service all over my shop..... its not the best but it does work... im not so sure its not the satellite more than the distance or repeater that makes this thing pretty slow, at its best the satellite is marginal. thanks again for the advice from everyone, just letting every one know how it all turned out.

HP inspiron Laptop, a backup Compaq laptop of dubious capabilities plus a stand alone backup box. Very good stuff.
Just in case Santa is listening I need a second stand alone backup box which I can keep away from home.
