Ok, I did a search for air tool storage several different ways, but all I came up with was a bunch of cabinets and shelving. I would like to see those trick solutions you came up with. Simple and cheap are always better. Those really troublesome items are great, too.

Here are a few of mine...

I have gotten attached to these rafter hooks. They are about $3 each at most any hardware store.

I use them all over to hang hoses and cords or lumber and framing materials...

But the best use yet has been holding up my air tool hanger...

I had this box of couplers laying around with some reduce bushings, so I grabbed a piece of square tubing and put a hole on the bottom large enough for the stem of the coupler and a hole on the top large enough for the bushing. Now I can plug all my air tools into the hanger with no wory that they may fall and be damaged and the big drawer of my roll cab was freed up for other stuff.

Then there's the angle iron screwdriver rack. I decided to do this after realizing that my screwdrivers were always out anyways, so now I put them back in the rack instead of laying them down on the bench.

I searched all over for reasonably priced socket organizers. There is no such thing and what is out there is not really tailored to my set, so I made my own with a 3/4" slab of particle board and a bunch of spade bits. Total cost: $45 including all the drill bits.

Probably the first thing ever put on my walls was my weed-eater rack. Simple enough...

A commercial piece that I consider mandatory for anything with a long handle, these are the Rubbermaid Pro series....

They can be track mounted, but I just use screw-in drywall anchors...

There's mine, where's yours?

dude those ideas are awsome i really like the socket drawer. i dont have any pictures of things yet as i have yet to start organizing my shop but when i do i will be borrowing some of your ideas.

one thing i have seen alot of is take a nail and drive it in about halfway or so(3" nail 1.5 out) and depending upon the head the connector in of an air tool slides right on, thus you have quick and easy removal. if the head is to big to fit in the hole of the connector end you simply hack the head off.

also tons of these as i have been given probably close to 400 of different sizes

Those rafter hangers are the coolest thing I've seen in a looooong time! I'll be getting a bunch very soon.

I wallpapered my shop walls with white pegboard, so I can hang anything anywhere. And I do.

Very cool. What spacing did you use? I want to make one so I'll remember that I actually own that certain tool instead of trying to hunt around for something else.

scotty-I think that you aren't getting too many other ideas because your's beat all of ours. The fake rafter along the wall with the rafter hooks is great! My shop/barn has such high rafters that I have only used the hooks for stuff I don't need often. Other than all the pegboard and all the cheap metal shelves I use, your ideas have all of mine beat. Thnx!!

Necessity is the mother of invention :)
A lot of really great ideas there! Great work!

I don't have much to offer unfortunately, a few projects on the blocks still but no proof of concept.

Here are a few of mine: Wall mounted buzz box, air compressor, misc. hand tools, and a cardboard hanging box. Also some socket organizers that you may have seen previously.

I'd have a few hundred of those bins if I had the money. I'm a compulsive collector of hardware i'll never use, but it pains me to need that one do-dad I threw away last week!

Happiness is a really big tool box.
I just grabbed a piece of tubing already laying around and divided by the number of tools I needed to hang, making sure they were far enough apart to have room for grinding/sand ing wheel, paint cups, etc. And YES, Hapiness is a big tool box. Only problem is, as soon as you move in, it's too small. Kinda like a garage, a tackle box, an office... :)

Nice, Jack! I like fold aways.

Thanks! I doubt that, though. I think it's just a slow week, coming off the holiday.

I really dig the age of all your stuff. It makes me think of the shaops I hung out in as a kid. The tubing with all your punches and chisels is great. I think I need to make one of those.

Thanks guys! Keep the ideas coming!

Found a few more. First, welder and compressor mounted at a previous location that had absolutely no floor space. The tool rack is a later addition. The last, Beaver drill press is not my work, but sure does have a bunch of good ideas there. (borrowed from OWWM)

Tired of stacking the wheels and tires on the ground, so I built some racks to get them up in the air. I can still park both cars under the rack, although the girlfriend's Jeep might have issues. It's cleaner now, I swear, this was right after building...

3850875983_88a2be570b_b.jpg
I've since added some supports to the top rack on the wall.

I have to admit, it still wasn't enough, I have two more sets on the ground under the big shelves...

Lots of great ideas here, that I hope to use next time I upgrade (renting here, hopefully buying soon!)

Where can these be found. I have a few bins for reloading ammo. Where can I find these with the board to mount them on.

Those types of bins can be found from any industrial supplier - McMaster, MSC, etc.

If you only want a few, check out the Stanley bins that are carried by Home Depot and Lowes. The Stanley bins come with mounting rails, and industrial suppliers carry a wide range of mounting racks and rails.

I have a cheap, easy and flexible way to mount plastic bins to a wall. I tried to attach a photo but got an "Upload Error" message. It's a 89 KB JPG File - max allowed is 146.5 KB. Is any one else having problems? I have posted several larger photos in the past without any difficulties. I tried to upload the same photo and some much larger ones on to the H.A.M.B. forum and had no difficulty.

Anyway, cut a length of 1"x3" wood to suit the number of bins that you want to mount. Screw a peice (same length) of the right angle aluminum that is used for drop ceilings to the 1" side of the wood. Screw the wood to the wall so that the aluminum angle is facing up. The top back of the bin hooks on to the aluminum angle and the bottom back of the bin rests on the wood. You can mount many bins as you want this way without having to rely on the size and shape of the "store bought" mounting racks.

Sorry about the lack of photos ... I'll keep trying.

Here's an easy way to mount plastic bins to a wall. Being all white it's a little hard to see but the bottom horizantal peice is 1"x3" pine. On top of that I screwed the aluminum angle that is used for installing a drop ceiling. Not the "grid" peices but rather the angle peices that screw to the walls around the perimeter of the ceiling. It's best to cut and assemble the peices before mounting them to the wall. The beauty is that you can mount 1 box, 100 boxes or any amount you want without being constrained by the size and shape of the type of mounting brackets that you have to purchase. That plus it's cheap!

Keep 'em coming! My ideas:

Nothing earth shattering here, but the 2X4 across the wall allows me to hang multiple items. L-brackets directly into the block let me hang my el cheapo saw horses. Hook in the floor joist for the creeper. Although not perfect and needing some work, fishing rods are in the LH corner clipped into broom hangers.

100_0573.jpg

Everyone keeps cans of extra house paint, but you really don't need it often. So, I jacked it up via these hangers. To prevent sag in one board, I added a rib under it. I really like these.

I remember growing up as a kid, the card table and chairs that always seemed to be in the way. I vowed to myself, I would figure out a way to keep them out of the way when I got a set.

The top and bottom (horizontal) are doubled up 2x4s, with 2 verticle 2x4s hold the table in place and allows a place for a couple of hooks to hang the chairs.

I used a similar setup, but used male and female couplers threaded together to store my (cheap-***) tools on top of and below a piece of angle iron I had sitting around. The whole thing is held up by lag bolts into the wall studs.

great idea !!
ive got a ton of bins laying around my shop. i'm in the process of closing the doors of my shop ( due to one of my landlords employees breaking in and stealing most of my tools ) and moving everything back to my home garage. one of the reasons i moved my wheeling tyruck and tools to that buolding was a lack of storage space in the garage. after what we've been through over the last couple weeks, i'm finally gonna be able to put up a storage shed for the lawn equipment and clear my garage of the non essential BS.
always looking for inventive and cheap ideas for storage and to get rid of the clutter. now all i gotta do is move alla this **** again..

Imade two of these from some short lenghts of tubing I've had for years. Not sure why it took me so long, they work great. I drilled a hole and then slotted it.

That was a great Idea, I went out today and got some of those for my garage @ HD. I just recently put up sheetrock and needed a way to hang everything again. Thanks. Heres my garage. Oh, I'm new here. This is my first post...

Here are some more pictures of my garage using scottybaccus idea, and then some of my tricks to add.

IMG_1865.jpg

IMG_1857.jpg

This is how I store my brooms, rakes, ...
IMG_1867.jpg

My Bikes are stored all the way up to the roof, I am 6'2" and clear them, although I can reach them and unhook them without a ladder. Also shown are the hooks from scottybaccus holding some 2X4s, and my 10' to 20' extension ladder. All out of the way.
IMG_1869.jpg

I installed some CL free MDF sheets in the rafters to store more "STUFF" but wanted an easy access to a safe storage of my tents, folding chairs, and fishing gear. This hangs down and only clears my garage door by 2".
IMG_1870.jpg

I built in a desk with a light table so I can trace over other drawings/gaskets/... I also have my radio stored above the CL cabinets $10.
IMG_1871.jpg

I like having lights, I want more, but I really wanted a light for my bench, so I made a block to mount a light to my cabinets. I also hang a lot of awkward stuff.
