I just picked up this machinist's vise locally, and it's a beast. As you can see in one of the photos the jaws are 9" wide. I've never seen a machinist's vise with jaws this large before. It doesn't appear to have any identification markings anywhere that I can see. It has a graduated rotating base, and is in excellent working condition. The screw turns smoothly, and it takes surprisingly little effort to move the jaw. Does anybody recognize this vise?

That pattern of a vise is usually on a metal shaper. What brand I cannot tell you. Do a google image search or u-tube on metal shaper.

Hi Larry,

I did an image search as you suggested. The vise I have looks very similar to an Atlas shaper vise. Here's a photo of the Atlas vise that I found online for comparison. One of the main differences between the two of them is that my vise has a swivel for the dynamic jaw, while all of the images that I found for shaper vises don't share this feature.

Larry, in your opinion what would it be worth?

If I were buying it from you, in the $75-$100 range. To someone else $50 to $500. I've had a couple of shapers and will buy another if the right one comes along.
