US Jack and Hein-Werner are two that come to mind.

Most of the jack stands you're going to find at major retailers are made in China and look like they were welded by a 5 year old because they probably were. I picked up a set of Torin 6 ton jack stands on sale from Pep Boys last month, and while the welds look like ****, they get the job done.

Any thoughts on this? Concerned about a couple of bad reviews on the jack stands - cheap chinese made with poor welds like the HF ones.

Who makes decent, safe jack stands anymore?

Thanks

I have that jack and jack stands and have had zero problems with either. Jack goes up and down smoothly an has lifted more than it really should. No problem with the jack stands either. And the creeper rolls smoothly. and seems to be well built. So maybe this guy got a lemon which all tool co have. That is $15.00 cheaper than when i got mine.:D

I like to buy the biggest, heaviest capacity jacks and jack stands that I can fit under my car or truck because it gives a greater safety margin for those crappy welds (and the wider bases are more stable). I'd love to buy a nice USA-made jack and jack stands, but the cost is not worth it for me considering I might use them a couple of times a year.

I have that jack and jack stands. The Stands are small, but seem to be good build and should hold 3 tons. The Floor Jack works fine, but I find it to be very heavy and the lifting arm appears to be shorter then some others, so it doesn't lift up the car as high as I would like. The only other issue with the jack is it won't go under a low setting car, unless you use something like a 2x4 or 4x4 under a tire, then you should be able to get under most cars..
As for the creeper, they never seem to work very well for me, I find a large piece of card board works better for sliding around and keeping any mess on the cardboard.

Yes, I have this same #50188 set and I used it today in fact at my sister's house. I paid $89 for the set about a year or so ago with free shipping around this same time of year. The jack is an "875" model prefix Sears foreign made Torin (Big Red) unit as are the stands. If you call the number in the instructions, you'll get Torin.

Overall it's a good jack for the homeowner. As others noted, on low cars, you have to drive the car up on some wood to get clearance. My nephew's Mustang is like that with this jack. His brother's Malibu? No problem. My sister's Edge? No problem.

Is it the 1984 Walker 93632 1.5 ton jack that I have? No way, but it gets the job done. I haven't used the creeper yet.
