Finally got a new tool box

Well after much deliberation and trying to figure out exactly what would suit my needs I picked out a box. Paid for it last night and picked it up this morning.

Im pretty stoked, this box holds alot for its size (the reason I bought it) I finally have enough room for everything plus some to spare (for more tools ) I ended up buying a 4drawer deep intermediate for a top box, 1) it was cheaper that way and 2) I dont have to worry about opening the lid to open the drawers. That and it fits under some shelves you can kinda see in the picture.

This is the box it replaced lol.

I think im going to use the top box for air chucks, manuals and other misc stuff. The red intermediate might go to my buddy if my dad doesnt want it. The bottom half is going to get made into a sort of machanics cart ( you can see I found my oil pan fits perfectly in the bottom) sould be useful to drag out the driveway for working on the cars.

Will do, but it probably wont be till friday, its payday and the flea market is open. Going to hit up the "foam guy" for some drawer liners. Ill post some more when its all set up.

Yes, I always pay cash for tools. Actually pay cash for just about everything, or save till i can afford it. Credit cards are for emergencies.

Ya see it's easy for Elroy to say that because about three years ago he got out from under about $18,000 in credit card charges. Elroy was a ***** for letting it get that bad. He will NEVER get in that situation again.

At this point EVERYTHING is paid off and it's all gravy. The stress level is much lower as well.

Good for you having some fiscal restraint. Too bad Washington doesn't have the same will power.

There are always times you will need a credit card. Especially if you have a family, home, vehicle, etc.

At this point the only time Elroy really needs a credit card is when he's on the road.

For example, about 10 year ago Elroy was traveling to Texas. Got to the middle of Arkansas and stopped for the night. Told the wife he was going to the "quickie mart" down the road for some beer. Coming back to the hotel the transmission fell out of the Buick.

Catastrophic failure, Wouldn't even move off the road.

The American Express was a God Send.

Four extra days in bum phuck, delayed plans and a new transmission, Carl Malden slapped Elroy for about $3,200. In that case, whip out the plastic.

At Least they did a good job putting in the gear box.

i think i have the same bottom box, i like it, but i need more tools to fill it, but thats mostly because most of my every day tools are hangin on the wall of peg board above my bench. in the two years ive had it i have not had an issue though, and the slides were worth the extra money

I have that 4 drawer mid box in my cart and it works well. Rolls nice when loaded up and pretty sturdy. I like the idea of using the mid section as a top box. Often the flip open top of a regular top chest is too tall to use and it winds up being a junk bin. Or worse yet as in a tight garage like mine, I have to keep it closed to allow for shelving above and its just wasted space in the top section. Nice purchase, thats one of the better Craftsman offerings.

Yea i like using the intermediate as a top box. Its a 16in box and most of the top boxes in that range only had 4 big drawers and then a few of those little "parts" drawers, i didnt think id use them. Plus going this route saved some money. I had the same problem with the old setup and the top being a junk bin lol.

Im also pretty happy with the quality so far. The slides are pretty decent for just being friction. Hell my other box has last a few years and its the very bottom quality range.

Great looking boxes, Good Luck with them. Like most things mechanical, a little care and a little common sense and they should last you a lifetime. I have my first 2 CM boxes that are now 48 years old and 4 of the newer ones which are about 20 y/o now. Keep them clean, dry, don't overload the drawers and you should have them a good long time.
