That would work at those locations, another option is just throwing down some cheap plywood. Wouldn't even need to be 1/2, less would certainly work so long as it lays flat.
With the plywood option is also allows you to paint those spiffy pro looking 2in wide lines all over the floor in hi-viz paint to show walkways, machine spaces & all the other assorted malarky.

What?? No pictures yet of you wearing a sweater and smoking that pipe? LOL!!! That commercial duty scroll saw is a real treasure. You sure do have a knack for running on to things. I don't know whether I would put it to use in the shop, or totally restore it for lts original glory to have on display! You may not know it yet (or knowing you --you probably do already) you are going to need a Swedish CabinetMaker's Bench. It must be made of hard maple, with frontal and tail vises. It will need "bench dogs" so you can clamp your pieces in for carving and sanding (by hand). Oh Oh no time for hand work!! Just kidding Don I love your wood shop already!! (Just remember--Ward Cleaver wore a tie and smoked a pipe in his shop, or at least he did on TV).

Can't wait to see what you do with the new space. I'm guessing that those great old Craftsman tools will be getting a refresh and will look and function as good as new before it is all said and done. Are you on the lookout for a vintage jointer and planer as well? It would certainly round out the assortment. Do you have a layout in mind?

On the tile floor... The rubber mats get my vote. They are a great solution to the dust traction problem and give some much needed cushion for the feet. I'm planing on a few for in front of mine. Also, make sure to source an air cleaner, or two. It will do a great job keeping the small fine dust to a minimal.

I do plan to make the place a working show piece.
Yes a 6" jointer is on my radar screen and I love the look of the old craftsman planers.

Oh man, this is gonna be good! I just finished a C'man Bandsaw like that , 103.24280 but am missing the 4 cover retaining knobs. I have plenty of spare parts for C'man drill presses and tablesaws if you need. Personally, I think an old time wood floor would be perfect for the barn. What are you going to use for dust collection?

Don, that Delta Scroll saw that landed on your trailer is probably the finest scroll saw made. The design has been around for a long time, I believe beginning with Walker Turner design, then Rockwell and finally Delta. Check the VintageMachinery.org site for more info. Not something you'll use every day but a great addition to a dedicated wood shop and certainly no longer made in any new forms.

I did get color into the woodshop today, moved tools around and swept the dirt into a pile before attacking the bathroom ( it is a disastrous disgrace)

I'm trying to figure out what to do with that ugly closet, and I think the orange stripe needs a black outline top and bottom. Then it's time to consider a long bench for the chop saw across the back wall

Don, it's coming along great. I'm not one of "the pros" but I see a couple of things you might consider. A lot of shops that I see, set the radial arm saw in the same row with the the miter/chop saw. Build them into the bench with their tables level to each other and they can share a back stop and a nice long common stretch of bench. Some cut off jobs might benefit from having the two of them side by side and set up for opposite angles. I do a similar thing with my drill press and big bandsaw. The press has an adjustable table of course, so it can be set level with the band saw table, so that either of them can be an outfield/ infeed table for the other. Just some thoughts of course.

Reading Family Handyman they suggest keep tools with like task together just like in our shops or the kitchen triangle. When working on the band saw or scroll saw, it would be nice to just turn around and have the work bench right there.

The stripes went on yesterday, they went dark brown rather than black and it looks sharp Next is corrugated tin below the stripe.

and I agree with moving the drill press over as well. I will need some storage area for the drill tooling and there is a blank wall behind the bandsaw.

I worked over in the woodshop this afternoon
I managed to pull the tape for the stripes off the wall, hang 2 lights, put up window coverings, move some of the tools around to see how they look as per the plan and mop the floors.

It is starting to get a little personality!!

Today I fired up the table saw for the first time since I bought it back in 2014

I have started my first real wood project today. A tool board for my pipe wrench and monkey wrench collection.

I've been thinking about my work benches and am leaning toward building a Steevo hf toolbox bench but I'm not sure what I would put in that many drawers using 2 44" 13 drawer boxes. I think it would work good for a cutting bench but I'm not sure what I would use for a top.

You will soon have so many different types of drill bits, planes, saws, etc. that will fit wonderfully in those HF or similar boxes. I have two myself and could easily fill up a couple more if I had them already. As for the top you could make your own butcher block top that sets on a custom made wood frame you'd also make out of your choice of woods. Rather than buying HF boxes why don't you just make your own out of wood, that would give you an opportunity to practice some joinery skills.

The butcher block is a good suggestion. Having never worked with wood and liking things nice is a bad combo. I will have to work up to building a work bench with drawers in it.

Thanks for joining in on my new venture. This one will go a bit slower than the party garage, but my plan is to give it one or two days a week.

You are right the scroll saw is a very nice piece and the donor is a good friend.
and the stripe around the orange band is a dark brown the black just didn't look right

That pic. is without the tools fastened to the board, however tonight the tools are secured to the board and tomorrow it will be hanging on the barn wall
Sorry I didn't catch a photo to share tonight

Each tool is secured to the board with tie wire that is used in the collision industry to tie parts to stands for painting. I drilled 3/32 holes on either side of the tool and twisted the wire from the back side to hold the tool in place

I spend about 10 hours in the shop almost every day monday thru friday and maybe 2 saturdays a month and 8 hours of sleep is too much for me. 61/2 is a pretty good number for me but I catch a 30 minute nap after lunch most days. I do stay focused every day however
