loydski: Is there a mark on it that looks like this? If there is then it's an FPU Bison vise from Poland.

Just back in from Maine!! Unloaded all my ****. Made a stop on the way home and traded a #38 Whitney 5" metal shear for the attached Holland #41. I know the shear is worth more but I'm a vise head!!

I LOVE the American Scale #97. Such a big vise. 14" tall and I believe around 200 lbs. Look how clean those jaws are. Pd $200

The Holland is so reminiscent of a 4" Reed. Also super clean. Pd $80.

Picked up this Vanderman for $40. A little rough but OK. Anyone want a $40 Vanderman?

Loyd
Did an image search for Foot pedal vise.
Revealed pics branded T&O and Dake
Bit more digging, Chinese made, German design, were available in the 90's for about $200.

Joe: FYI your American Scale is #79 and not 97, but either way I wish it was mine. nice find.

Dutch: Chinese made? or maybe the newer ones are imported because nothing about Loyd's company's vise looks Chinese? was there maybe older versions that might not have been put on the internet?

I would think that is likely, Loyds does look to good to be Chinese (not saying it couldn't be) but I could only find a couple of pics and a few old forum posts, none of which were of something old. I couldn't find them available to buy currently either.

EG: maybe this thread will help you. if you have some time and a good beer you'll enjoy some of the stands the members of GJ have and some are way way better than average.

Joe: sorry and if any of the 650 was like the 100 miles i drove yesterday you didn't overpay for those gems. only reason i know the # is because it's up there on the LIST. congrats again

Second one is a little Wilton that I picked up years ago I guess I need to clean it up at some point. Any idea on how to date this one?

Drives, it was late May of 14 when I got the big Parker. No new pics, I'm still looking for the right base material. I refuse to just cobble something up.

Thinking about hitting a semi local auction this weekend. Any insight on this guy just from the pics? Looks big and maybe a Parker but the swivel lock seems different :dunno:

I don't know anything about this c'man or vises in general, except for how to use them. My grandfather (passed away in may) gave me this around 15 years ago when I bought my first house. He owned a flea market for over 25 years so there is no telling how he happened upon it. Does anyone know approximate age, quality, or interesting facts? Thanks

Nice stuff Joe. That American scale is huge! I didn't realize it was a swivel jaw too.
Those Reed looking Hollands are awesome too!

Top: At one of the first estate sales I went to I overheard someone else standing in line say to his friend, "That one guy is here". His friend replied, "All of those 'one guys' are here". I guess that includes me now.

On an unrelated note: I'm going to another sale in about 2 hours.

A couple months ago I put an ad on the radio to That I buy old rusty tools and vise's. I think it may finally pay off. I got a call from an old lady who's husband is in a nursing home and she is selling his tool collect... It was HER FATHERS to being with!. Most stuff she says is 1920's or older. That's the best way to beat an estate sale is to get to the estate first!

S4: looks like too many letters for an Athol or Parker so maybe another brand. almost looks like it says columbian, but it does look pretty big so tell us if you see in person.

Z28: that old (60's most likely) Craftsman is one that is fairly common, but a real worker too. here's one that a guy spiffed up a bit and put on Ebay and can't recall what it sold for. normally they are worth about $50, but since it was your Dad's might i suggest just cleaning it up and re greasing it and putting it to work if you don't want to shine it like the one i'm posting a picture of.

Outlaw: you can take all the time you wish before putting that awesome Parker into service and hope you find the right parts. the Christmas tree vise tree i think is on that vise and grinder stand thread, but i know it's on a few others and maybe here a few times too. here's a picture of it in case you think we need it.

Top: that's the way i like to find them too. hopefully you'll find some gems and give her some needed cash for a win win.

Z28, That vise was made from at 1960 to 1973 at least, (probably longer at either end) and that 5"er was the biggest of that style made for Sears. Some were made in Japan, most in the US, it came in 3-1/2" 4" and 5" yours being US made was probably earlier. The 506 indicates made by Columbian

IIRC Getridone is correct, that is a Lewis tool co. vise out of NY. I ran across a swivel base version of that one time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zkling, I picked one of those up about 2 months ago.---The Prentiss looks almost identical, but they are copies of the Lewis, and I wanted an original specimen.---EBay has one for sale on occasions but most are in fowl shape.---This one is in pretty good shape but is missing the pipe jaws.---I like the cam action lock down.

Woa, never knew they made a combo version. Actually the reason I ran across one was because I was asked to weld up the nubbin (yes technical term) on the swivel base pin. Interesting design, just watch that wear area as when the nubbin wears down the pin will no longer retract with the cam lever. Certaintly a very heavy open screw vise.

Anyone know the manufacturer of this vise? It's one we have at my work but it has no identifiable marks.

IIRC Travers MFV vise, euro made. They made a number of attachments to do all sorts of useful things. The head honcho over at PM had a ***** for them years back. :headscrat:
