I've had this tool, made in France, for a while and decided to clean it up today. It appears to be a wire or sheet metal gage. I cannot determine what the slot in the middle is for though. There is also a rule of sorts that measures 3 inches in segments, 0-48, 0-42 and 0-74. Any guesses?

Let me think a second seems I recall seeing them before, I believe that is a watchmakers mainspring and pivot gauge mind you I think (key word) I saw a watchmaker using one donkey years ago maybe around 1970.

Oh well if I am wrong you can shoot me!:(

Funny though I can remember something so insignificant from 45 years ago but yet I can not figure out all the electronic goods on display at a best buy store; hell I don't know if I am looking at a tv or a small item that becomes a tv.:headscrat

Getting old *****...:(

That makes perfect sense. My uncle loved to tinker with watches so it is reasonable to think this got left in my grandfather's garage or home years ago.
