Here's a recent estate sale score. Eventually, I'll hang them on the wall.

The next day I went back and found the matching tool box for one of the them.

BB: those cabs will look great especially with the matching tool boxes below them.

Killinger: those old military cabinets look great with their new top. Have you started filling the drawers yet?

Not really. Trying to just get everything in place then come up with a plan.

Got the last 3 in place and working on the top now.

How did I miss this thread??
So many great old re-purposed cabinets.

Killingier, you the man!!! What a great wall of cabinets. Great score!

Haven't seen these posted yet, so will put up a couple of what I did in my back room.

These were utility bin from one of the service vans that were removed from service. A little bolting together and they have held up well for many years. Many drawers have the molded dividers in them for sorting hardware. Hold an amazing amount of "Stuff".
West wall.jpg

This Roto Bin at the end, is one of my most used storage bin. Quick spin and all is within reach.
Roto Bin.jpg

My other wall is filled with many of the same cabinets that others have found so useful. Love the roller cabinets for hand tool storage.
Have been wanting to get them all painted the same, but paint wouldn't improve there use, so it has a low priority.

Told you before Squash, that is super cool!!

Maverick, I have one exactly like it I'm trying to sell at my garage sale tomorrow and restored a Globe Wernicke pretty similar. Check my projects thread for the restored one. I went with Rustoleum Rosemary hammertone paint and sage micro suede on top, it has glass doors on it and resides in my living room now.

You've got me thinking about fitting glass doors on it now...

Tarnished: yes you do have a couple walls of some very cool metal cabinets. you could almost do thread on just yours, but for now how about sharing what you put in the drawers?

i like the lazy susan type metal bins in the corner and i've just missed getting a couple of them myself. i bet it's handy.

thanks for sharing

Here's my vintage Craftsman rolling tool cabinet. Check out the retro design of the foot actuated casters. It's a beautiful deep blue/purple color, but somehow that doesn't come through in the photos. I actually found the red drawer that is in the bottom of the cabinet at a separate garage sale, and it will be a perfect fit.

Bisley: $11 shipped to your door isn't too bad if you like it and have the need. thanks for the link. did you cut yours when you put it on two different drawers?

JD: are the drawer open in your little orange cabinet or do they have dividers?

Drives, I think you were looking at the wrong size. The 16" decal is $28 shipped.
Hmmmmm, I wonder if he'll do a 16" crown logo ?

Bisley and Jake: i guess i thought a 2 inch tall and 5 inch wide logo was big enough, but i'll look at the bigger ones.

Jake: since you are so good with labels would you be able to make your crowntop for your cabinets or is it worth it to pay the $28 and just have it sent to your door?

It's worth it to be to have someone else do it. I can do small water or paper decals on my printer, but I can't do large decals or vinyl.

Drives. The drawers all have dividers in them in varying sizes with the top drawer having the most compartments and the bottom the least. I will try to post up some more pics in the near future.

JD: pictures and specs would be great on the orange cabinet and post up more cabinets if you have them.

ALL: when you post pictures of some cool metal cabinets post up the specs or try to put a pop can in the pictures for size reference. thanks and i'm sure there are a lot more members with cool looking metal cabinets they are using that should be posted here.

I made this one in 2006. nothing fancy, just plywood construction with box joints on the drawers and ball bearing full travel slides. Solid oak drawer fronts stained darker.

I've been wanted to post this Art Metal cabinet that is dedicated to vacuum tubes and ancillary parts and supplies, this isn't a common brand in these parts. I don't know the exact vintage, it does have a patent date of 1915. It has a yale lock on the bottom with a brass handle that will lock the entire cabinet. The silver cabinet ,way smaller though you can't tell by the photos, is an Excelsior which are more common, also now used for vacuum tubes and paperwork.

I inherited a wood and metal storage box from my dad. He never did anything with it when he inherited it from his uncle. It was filled with old files, random tools and nuts and bolts. It's homemade, but at least as old as the 1950's. It was kept in a storage shed for years and started to rust. Each drawer is set up differently.

Glend123, great job on that DIY cabinet. I want to make one real similar for my sewing machine parts/accessories. Did you use a guide or freestyle it?

Cranehead, that green one is super sweet!! Thanks for posting!

Glend: looks like you did a great job building that cabinet and thanks for posting pictures of it. i also started a thread for Wood cabinets in this section if you want to take and post a few more pictures on that thread. also welcome to the forum and hope to see you around on other threads here. if you have any questions just ask and i'm sure one of us will help if we can.

2000: i like your cool old homemade metal cabinet. that hard part about those size drawers is finding ways to fill them up so you can find the items when you need them. good luck

Crane
: love both those cool old cabinets. do you do TV repair or just collect old parts?

hope you all had a great Christmas

ALL: i can't find a name on this old tool box, but old owner said Snap On. since his price was only $25 and an hour's drive it didn't matter that can't find a name on it. it needs some work no doubt, but if any of you that know which box this is please let me know and how to remove the drawers to paint them?

thanks

I have one just like that and I'm sure it says Snap-On on it.
Next time I get to the shop I'll get a picture.

Not sure how I missed this thread. Cool solutions all!

Here are some of mine:

An old Navy fixed base cabinet - I use one side of the shallow drawers for SAE bolts, and the other for misc tools and supplies:

attachment.php

Above it is a pick a nut selector setup and next to that is this steel case with aluminum drawers similar to Accro bins - Mostly Machine screw sized fasteners, but a mix of other things, including brass fasteners.

attachment.php

I have 3 of these heavy duty metal bookcases, and this one was adjusted to hold parts bins similar in size to 3X5 card files 12" deep, with another one 17" deep on top (the back rests on one of the other bookcases; they are back to back)

attachment.php

I also have a 3 drawer lateral file with bulky tools and Blow mold cases with tools. I'm surprised I didn't notice any in here (I may have missed any though...)

All of these can be seem in my old "fastners" thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117174

I have more but no handy pics just now (and it's too dang cold out there right now to go set up for pics...)
