Craftsman cabinet saw 103.27270 indecision

I have the chance to pick one of these up and I am on the fence. I have a perfectly restored 113. with a 2HP motor wired for 220. I also have 103. 8" and 103. 9" saw that various people have given me and I have cleaned them up for the sake of the project. Do I really want a 103.27270?? It has the original fence and miter gauge and what I believe to be the original 1 horse motor (but only 1 belt). It would probably be a fun project, but worth keeping??

I don't want to let a more rare saw slip by me but I am wondering what others think. I am not a hoarder. Will it be any better than my Emerson 113 (which many say was one of the best).

Thanks for the feedback. I know that it is still a table mounted arbor. Not sure the rules by I guess I will just put it out there that the asking price is 2 bills and the guy doesn't really know what he has (not a tool guy). Might try to get him down a little

Always try to negotiate, that's rule number one.

Rule number two, never pass on a good deal.

Rule three, if you don't have one but do have the money , buy it anyway!

I swear I would do bad things for one of those and I'm not even a woodworker.

That's the right choice. Just get back to us with pictures as soon as possible. Those aren't unicorn rare or anything like that, but they are probably the nicest table saw that Sear ever sold and they sure aren't making any more!

Depending on which 8" and 9" saw you have I'd swap out one of those for it. Yes, unfortunatly it is not a true cabinet saw.

I just picked up that same saw, I came across this post doing a model number search. I already had a 1960's era table saw, but this one only cost me a 24 pack of Labatts. I think I'll sell my other one or part it out and restore this one. It's a beast.

Nice saw, but a beast? Really? The one I examined was basically the same top and mechanism as other Craftsman bench top saws but mounted in a to-the-floor cabinet. Are there other models I haven't seen?

Full disclosure, he's a co-worker, he knew it would have a good home. He didn't want anything for it but I insisted. He just wanted space back in his garage. He even let me borrow his trailer to bring it home. Sucker weighs about 400 pounds. I'm anxious to fix it up. It works, but I don't like the on off switch, the belts are old, and it desperately needs a newer style fence, as well as a good top polish; maybe a cabinet repaint.

I put a delta T2 fence on mine and love it.

Jay, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to truing the fence - any advice if I were to use the original?

The original fence is pretty heavy if removed and near impossible to move on the saw if it is not adjusted correctly. There is a tiny steel wheel on the rear of the fence that rides on the rear fence rail, this needs to be lubricated and adjusted so the fence rides slightly above the table. I added a third set screw to the head of fence that keeps all tight. The fence only had two screws attaching the head to the fence. There is an adjustment at the rear of the fence that should be adjusted in very small increments to find proper clamping power to hold the fence. When clamping the fence to the table, I always push the head of the fence against the front of the table and then engage the clamp.

As far as truing the fence, as with any table saw align the blade to the miter gauge slot and then align the fence to the miter gauge slot.

What are these worth on the "open market"? What would you expect to pay for one in functioning shape with a fence?

^ I have only seen a handful come up for sale over the past three years. They have ranged from $100 to $550. The hundred dollar models were in rough looking condition but apparently working. The $550 model was pretty nice and fitted with a modern fence. The guy actually advertised it as a Unisaw. I can't say which of these have sold, or for what price, but the ads (Craigslist) that have been removed in a day or three have been for the $200 saws. I think that's a fair price. The $350 plus dollar ones sit forever. Personally, if I wanted one now, I'd pay $200. Otherwise I'd be on the lookout for a $100 deal.

So far all I've managed to do was buy two link belts for it that don't fit. They seem to be smaller grooved pulleys (width-wise) than my other stuff. I've been preoccupied with working nights, and trying to get a pole barn built...I'll post pics when I finish it.

I paid $200 for mine with the two original fences and it needed cleaning and painting and lubing but was in good shape with a 1hp motor. I don't think I'd go above $250 (depending on location) without some additional parts (updates fence or original blade guard) or something that was already "restored"

"Beast" in the sense that it took two of us and a trailer to move it into my shop. Probably weighs close to 300+ pounds. Mechanically, it's not much different from my 'Model 100' table saw, other than having a larger cast iron table.

Know it's an old thread but thought that I would post a picture of my HFH ReStore buy. Craftsman 103.27270 saw with 113.19063 1HP motor, a newer 113.299010 Exact-I-Rip fence, along with a Crown top dado set and 9-2727 dado insert. Also came with a Craftsman Powr Panl switch box and the optional 9-2748 wheel set. Already have a 10" Craftsman "contractors" saw but was pretty happy to get this one.
