Re: Show off your PROTO/PLUMB Pebble Grain

Before I found this place I had never heard of Plomb. Thought you guys were talking about Plumb. I knew the name Proto because I have a set of combos from 30 years ago. Never knew Proto was originally Plomb.

I had to have a least one Plomb pebble, and at least one Plomb/Proto.

Here are the babies. Got to start somewhere....

Re: Show off your PROTO/PLUMB Pebble Grain

I am thinking of this ratchet. Is the hole in the handle supposed to be there, and what is the drive size?

The hole in the handle is aftermarket. Someone drilled it so they could hang it. They occasionally show up from time to time.

2 months later I have these 3/8" drives. No hole in the ratchet handle.

As is my custom I took the ratchet apart, and it looked good. For grins I put the drive gear in backwards, because sometimes that is how I see them on ebay.

Re: Show off your PROTO/PLUMB Pebble Grain

I took some better pictures of most of the stuff I have minus some sockets and extensions and the 3/4 stuff I just bought, but here are some better pictures.

My **** is hard and my jaw hurts from hitting my desk. Sweet jesus that is pretty.

Well, I dont have ANY pebble grain. For some reason, the Wright Field (or known as "war fund" tools) are the ones I like..

So, have your pebbles... and if you see some WF stuff, let me know!

I don't have many pebble types yet. The little Firestone 1/4" is one of my favorites, I need to find a lever for it. I saw some mention of transitions in this thread, the only one I have is the 708-S adjustable.

Hey Jim,

Get a Proto repair kit. I have that style in 3/8" marked Proto, with a WF number.

I would like a Firestone/Plomb if there are some for sale.

I picked up another Plomb/Proto lawsuit open end at the flea market today. The pebble field type.

A few months later, and I have few more.

Never saw a Proto pebble in person until today at the flea market when I bought the flare nut wrench.

Earned these today installing a couple of urethane sway bar mounts. Upon completion, the owner asked Elroy what he owed him. Elroy suggested these:

Proto 5849 giant ratchet. I really wish I had placed a dollar bill nearby so that you could see that this is about 25" long. There are a couple of extensions that I didn't look too closely at, a 10" and an 18" maybe? The sockets are all Taiwan. It is a beauty and needs a new home. The pawnshop thinks it is $400 beautiful.

What would be the best way to clean up a rusty Plomb Pebble grip 3/8" Breaker Bar?
Should I just leave the surface rust after I soaked it in PB Blaster,Or use a Wire Wheel?

Please pardon the Yankee and the Craftsman cluttering the pic of a Plomb 5449 1/2" ratchet and Firestone 3/8" breaker!

Definitely NOT Pebble grain but I want to toss these into the "Show off your Pomb" part of the thread:

And of course:

There isn't a whole lot of info on these. Especially the little 6 1/2" prybar. Anyone know?

Single,
It must be a teeny weeny prybar for lifting up little bitty things...........:)

or...........

The 2006 is a common brake spoon for adjusting Bendix-type drum brakes of yesteryear. :)

Elroy, I would have happily performed that service for that payment!

I have never seen this thread before and ran across it at the top of the forum list today, so here goes my shot.

Overview of what I've got pebble wise so far: Still working on the collection.
Everything in the picture I found "in the wild" with the exception of the 1" Drive Plomb Ratchet and about 4 of the combo wrenches I received in a trade. Everything else was pulled out of estate sales, swap meets, and pawn shops

Everything below and to the left of the 1" drive ratchets is Plomb, the Chrome 1" is Proto and the uncleaned 1" is Plomb. Then on the right side and above the 1" ratchets everything below the Plomb Pebble field Screwdriver is Plvmb/Prvtv, and everything above it is Proto LA, with the small pebble fields. Not sure how that 9714 wood handled screwdriver slipped in... Think it's cause it's in the same box as the "Big Bertha's".

P7270830.jpg

Here's a closer up shot of the combos as it seems that many people like these in particular (I use mine near daily)

P7270833.jpg

Here's a mixed shot of the more obscure things that may not really count as "pebble finish"

Top is an ignition wrench with raised lettering, middle are three pairs of pliers: Plomb duckbill's, earlier Plomb battery terminal and water pump. Pretty sure the duckbill's count as pebbled... but the others were close and neat, so I threw them in. Bottom is a plastic "pebbled field" screwdriver right before the switch to Proto. I have not had a chance to clean the plastic on it at all yet... still neat.

Hope you all enjoy it as I did your posts!

Hahaha I did use it to lift up little things. I tried reaching around a fuel rail to disconnect the harness from an injector on granddad's Ranger.

It almost did it. I could blame Plomb, but a poor mechanic blames his tools.

So I blame Ford :)
God I hate Fords.
